    I don't understand… How do I wipe my arse with a digital copy? :/

  • +6

If there's no cash incentive (eg $40 Rebel gift card), its not worth it.

  • +1

dw about these people, i like your deal.

    • +13

He's a sick sick man. FU Rupert

    • +6

He sounds like he is actually happy that Australia is experiencing terror.

      Vile old man.

I wont be sad when he finally kicks the bucket.

      • -7

        Are you retarded?

He sounds like he is actually happy that Australia is experiencing terror.

That is possibly the single dumbest, most stupid, idiotic thing I have ever read.

An adherent to Islam took your fellow Australians hostage, announced his intentions to kill these hostages, immediately requested the flag representing a utopian Islamic State as a backdrop to his depravity…..and you blame Rupert Murdoch?

        What are you, a child?

        • "That is possibly the single dumbest, most stupid, idiotic thing I have ever read."

If as it appears you're a regular reader of the Murdoch press I very much doubt it. Then again unless they introduce scratch and sniff newspapers some people will never recognise bullsh!t even when it's there in black and white.

Replace "ENJOY FULL ACCESS…" with "FULL ACCESS…" Ain't nobody enjoying that.

  • +4

i enjoy reading the australian, thanks

    • +9

I was shocked to read this, though then I realised it's clearly sarcasm with no plus vote. Phew.

  • +5

A plus vote for the digital version potentially getting the obnoxious broadsheet out of my face while on the train.

    • I'd just buy it just to get anyone and everyone to view as much content as possible in those 28 days. Burn their servers up. Run their highest quality (resolution that is) video over and over on replay.

      Make 'em pay.

  • +2

Apologies to the Mods for the inappropriate neg - I forgot that some people have use for pre-fertilized mulch, and may want to check the amount before picking it up of a train seat…

    • +4

Nothing inappropriate about negging a rubbish product afaik. A once great newspaper now regularly a laughing stock, much like Fox "News".

      • +1

Yep, but I failed to remember it works as a neg of altomic, who didn't need that. S\he put up a bargain, and for many who need to follow the MSM, it is one…

      • -6

"Now regularly a laughing stock"…..I'm interested, how do you substantiate that?

Sure, in an echo-chamber thread like this- where literally any and all "Murdoch is the Boogeyman!!!!" comments will receive a hearty, supportive backslap- that might be the case.

        But outside of this thread?

Murdoch owns something like 35% of the mastheads in Australia, yet has cornered around 70% of the market. That is, if people have to pay for a product, they are more than likely to trust Murdoch with their coin.

Fairfax, meanwhile, is burning money. Print versions of The Age or the SMH will not likely be available within 5 years.

Not only have Australians already voted as to which publications are "a laughing stock", they have voted with their hip-pockets, the most reliable indicator of all.

But Australians are all dumb, aren't they, except for you.

        • +1

You may have come down in the last shower but those who know what The Australian was before Murdoch sent it down the path of "RIGHTeousness" despair for what it has become. Others simply mock the quasi journalism now regularly on display. Apart from the Oz the vast majority of his newspapers simply cater to simplistic bogan views and likely exist only because of old habits. No doubt you think the Courier Mail and the Daily Bellylaugh are bastions of the free press and lap up the sloganism, knee jerk responses, and cronyism. Others seek educated, rational adult analysis and commentary - which is anathema to conservatism as we know. Australians aren't all "dumb" but in general we are complacent and far too accepting of the invariably unbalanced conservative view of the world. The real cut of Murdoch and his representatives' cloth has been well and truly exposed in both the USA (Fox "News", what a joke) and in Britain - look up the Leveson Inquiry and if your bias doesn't get in the way you ought to be appalled. You want "dumb"? Read some of Murdoch's tweets. You want at least a semblance of reality - read Fairfax, the Independent, or any one of a number of online news and commentary sevices. Or, feed your fever and continue to lap up the lazy and ignorant slop served up by the Murdoch stable.

        • The Oz runs at a loss. Hmm. It's about power just as much as money.

The radio stations read the paper and spout the crap in it as if it's news. They don't do their own research or news. Most radio listeners don't know this or care. And many people don't read papers but they certainly listen to it being read.

  • +2

Maybe if they paid me $1 instead… :)

  • +1

They get lots of money from ads revenue.
I say no to Fairfax/Newscorp paywalls.

  • +4

Last time I subscribed to the Australian on a trial, they billed me a lot sooner and I had to call up for a refund.

    • +1

Hmm no surprise. Was going to say you'd have to cancel the PayPal thing or unsubscribe on day 20 or so to beat them to it.

      • Maybe can cancel the billing agreement in Paypal but keep the subscription going?

  • +3

    They'd have to pay me.

  • +3

Most newspapers have a discounted first month period.

And if you download their app you're offered two months free (at least on Android)…so this isn't really a deal.

Then you factor in the content and it's definitely not.

    • +1

Ah very good point! So they're still screwing us when we think we're getting a huge discount.

  • +1

    Great post, OP, thanks

  • +1

Why the HECK would you pay for a Murdoch newspaper??

News on the internet is for free. https://www.youtube.com/user/corbettreport/videos

The voting on the juvenile comments in this thread demonstrate an amusing pattern; only 27 comments on this post (at time of writing), yet those 27 comments attracted around 130 positive votes (at time of writing)?

You'd be hard pressed to find any post in the history of ozbargain to attract that sort of ratio…….wait. It's a whole group of sheep who couldn't even substantiate their knee-jerk "Murdoch is Freddy Krueger!" babytalk if they were paid.

    What a bunch of nutters.

Fair dinkum, grow up. Try reading both the Fairfax and News titles every day, instead of being so fearful of your ideas being challenged that you confine yourselves to an echo chamber.

I read Fairfax, News and the ABC every day.

I love considering viewpoints that challenge my beliefs; it actually tests whether my view and beliefs were valid to begin with.

It's rhetorical, I know, but why do slobs and lazy thinkers feel so panicked?

Why the rush to immediately infest the comment sections of posts like this, purely in order to denigrate something they profess not to read?

Surely, if Murdoch was even remotely as bad as you're all hilariously trying to attest, it would be obvious to all, right?

You wouldn't even need to engage in this embarrassing rush to display your credentials, adding your trite, empty dog-whistle comments any time a fellow ozbargainer has the goddamn temerity to post a deal involving a newspaper that isn't Fairfax.

    Sheesh.

    • No conspiracy Cor, it's called grass-roots response. In the true spirit of OzBargain, it wasn't paid for.
