  • Guys just a question: Wireless vs Wired keyboard/mouse - Which is better?

    • +57

      Yes

    • If you have cord problems, then wireless. But there might be signal problems if there receiver and mouse are blocked by obstacles, such as your desktop case. And also battery life needs to be considered.

Professional gamers never use wireless stuff for whatever reason.

    • +1

Wireless is the de-facto going forward (except for gaming, but then you won't buy a Microsoft mouse/kb for gaming). The battery lasts for at least a year on these so it is a non-issue.

    • +1

I'll answer it with a counter question. mobile phone or land line ? which is better?

    • What are you using it for?

I'd always say wired based on no need to consider battery life and it's just better for gaming with the signal delay and such.

  • Just before I put an order through - can I make sure I understand this correctly

I can order 3 x Microsoft K/Board & Mouse on the same order with one of the listed suppliers, then I submit the scanned receipt 3 times on the Microsoft website?

And the maximum is 3 items to be ordered in total. I couldn't make a 2nd order?

I could get my wife to do a 2nd order to a different address - that would work wouldn't it?

    • Yes, and can't see why the wife couldn't claim from a different address…

      • +1

Yep - I think so too - it's says 3 claims per PERSON - so I think the same address is fine too - I think just a different name and a different bank account. Anyhow, I've ordered 3 items. Might order another 3 in wifeys name, see how we go.

  • -1

I think the RRP for the Wireless Xbox 360 Controller for Windows (SKU JR9-00012) is incorrectly listed at $49.95 instead of $59.95. Even Microsoft themselves are selling it for $59.95 (see here: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msaus/en_AU/pdp/Xbox-360…).

This means the cashback amount is $4 lower than it should be ($20 instead of $24), unless I am missing something.

    • There's three different controllers.

      Wireless w/o Dongle.
      Wireless.
      Wired

Wireless w/o Dongle is $60 RRP
      Wireless is $50 RRP.

Unsure why they don't list all three, they only listed Wireless w/o Dongle and Wired.

      • +1

Why is the one without the dongle an extra $10?

      • That's strange. I brought 3 wireless Xbox 360 controllers from Umart and they all came with a dongle each. However the product code on the receipt matches the one on the Microsoft cashback list: JR9-00012. Have Umart made a mistake in their processing?

        • The Dongle I'm talking about is the PC USB Adapter. Unless there's another dongle?

      • I don't think there's such a thing as a wireless controller for windows without a dongle, as that would just be a regular 360 controller (and they are excluded from the cashback).

  • +1

Thanks OP. Just got back from MSY, picking up the Desktop 3000 bundle.
The keyboard is fairly quiet.. although the mouse is a little clicky. Beats my 3 year old Logitech MX5500 which is covered in cat hair, that sticking to the plastic thats breaking down..

$2.20 after price match and cashbacks for the ms800.. Not bAd for a Thor away kb/ms.

Not bAd for a Thor away kb/ms.

that combo is going to cop a hammering

  • -3

Are purchases through MSY eligible for cash back?

    • +21

Are purchases through MSY eligible for cash back?

      No, defintely not, no way.

Participating stores for the offer are Harvey Norman, Domayne, Joyce Mayne, JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Dick Smith, Officeworks, Bing Lee, Big W,EB Games, MSY Technology Pty Ltd, Officemax Australia Ltd, Centre Com Sunshine Pty Ltd, Computer Alliance, Austin Computers, Leading Edge Group Ltd, PLE Computers, Umart Online

      Should've gone to Spec Savers….

      • Thanks for that
HN just refused to price match until they verify if MSY is eligible for the cashback

        • +16

Seriously? What's it to HN if MSY were eligible or not?

Or is this their usual dodgy practices that if MSY weren't eligible they wouldn't price match them as they know that after cashback it'd be cheaper through them for the buyer and they still get to keep their fat margin on it?

        • I think that is exactly the reason.

        • +1

          @Olokun:
I think thats applicable to the after cash back price. I.e. go to officeworks and expect them to price beat the Microsoft Wireless 800 K/Board & Mouse - $4 after C/B

      • +3

I almost thought you were being serious for a second.

Participating stores for the offer are Harvey Norman, Domayne, Joyce Mayne, JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Dick Smith, Officeworks, Bing Lee, Big W,EB Games, MSY Technology Pty Ltd, Officemax Australia Ltd, Centre Com Sunshine Pty Ltd, Computer Alliance, Austin Computers, Leading Edge Group Ltd, PLE Computers, Umart Online

    • +6

Yes. MSY Technology Pty Ltd is clearly listed

  • +1

I'd appreciate if anyone could post places which have the Xbox for Win controllers in stock cheap!

  • Is this Arc bluetooth mouse eligible for cashback?

    http://www.msy.com.au/vic/northmelbourne/wireless/14824-micr…

The SKU is not on the MS website

    • Looks to be excluded.
Need to get a $65 one from Computer Alliance:
      http://www.computeralliance.com.au/microsoft-bluetooth-arc-t…
      $33 after cashback

      • +1

The SKU for this mouse from Computer Alliance is also 7MP-00006. Why would cashback for this item be excluded from MSY but included for Computer Alliance?

        • I have this mouse and currently using it now..

Wouldn't recommend it… its awkwardly shaped not good for long periods of use honestly

    • I guess it is in ms website. 1st under mobile mouse.

      • That's the 7MP-00007.
        MSY do the 7MP-00006.
Computer Alliance have the RVF-00054 like MSY and they don't mention cashback as SKU (for cashback) is Arc Touch Mouse RVF-00005.

        • There is no 00007 - even on the Microsoft store the code is 00006 - which says 40% cash on the page. I think it's a typo

  • I am not able to proceed with cash back

this link http://www.www.microsoft.com.au/cashback seems to say webpage not available

    I even tried http://www.microsoft.com/emea/mos/en-fi/Default.aspx

does anyone know is there a alternate way

  • Can you still buy the 360 controllers with the transformable d-pads (in other words, the d-pads that work)?

    • Isn't the twisting version the latest / most common?

Unless they dropped it to save a few cent which would suck.

      • Standard doesn't have it. It was a limited edition run. You can still buy some Chromes out there which have it, but they cost more. I think those were limited editions too.

  • -4

if this "Excludes Surface and X Box Accessories", why are you guys buying xbox controllers?

    • Go to the site linked in the OP.

Go all the way down to the bottom and click on 'Gaming devices' drop down.

      Then you'll see this -

Sku (old) Sku (new) RRP Cashback
      Wireless Xbox 360 Controller for Windows JR9-00012 JR9-00012 $49.95 $20.00
      Xbox 360 Controller for Windows 52A-00003 52A-00003 $39.95 $16.00

Then you'll see why people are buying Xbox controllers.

      • Xbox 360 Controller for Windows

        • +1

          Xbox 360 Controller for Windows

Which is the exact same controller as you have for your Xbox..

        • @Porthos:

controller is the same but includes the wireless dongle for your computer.

edit: well, referring to the wireless ones..

        • @mr kindface: oh yeah I know that, I just meant if you want to use it for your 360 there's nothing stopping you as it's exactly the same hardware wise as just the ones sold for the 360 :-)

Just ends up being a very cheap controller!

      • Wireless Xbox 360 Controller for Windows JR9-00012 JR9-00012 $49.95 $20.00
        Xbox 360 Controller for Windows 52A-00003 52A-00003 $39.95 $16.00

What's the difference between these two? One is $10 cheaper for some reason.

        • +5

One is wireless and one is not…?

        • @Soul Beaver: Ah, why of course. Thanks.

  • The keyboards and mice are like from 10 years ago.

    • +1

yep. couldnt give a shit about kbds and mice since i got so many from work and stuff

but with two xbox360s i could do with a few cheap controllers

from what I've seen up to $40 is cheap for a wireless one and anything under that is a bonus

      • -1

but xbox accessories aren't included in the 40% off O.o

        • +1

x360 controller for Windows is considered a PC accessory, despite just being a regular x360 controller plus a USB receiver.

    • +4

The keyboards and mice are like from 10 years ago.

Yes, coz you want a USB3 keyboard for extra speed, right? Or is it the new letters that have been added to the English alphabet?

      • Well, for starters a micro transceiver would be nice, and how about mice that work on glass, or perhaps a backlit keyboard?

They are 40% cashback for a reason, I hazard a guess, because the are really old?

        • +1

That doesn't make them automatically bad?

There are many models that are old that everyone sort of uses because they work?

Also some of the models there are fairly recently released, at least not 10 years old, so your point about them being old is sorta moot.

Just saying. As long as they don't charge more than what they worth, I think I am fine.

        • The all-in-one does have a micro transceiver, which I'm scared of loosing :)
The desktop model protrudes only 1cm. You want smaller?

  • Non-Backlit keyboard from MS???

  • How long does it take to receive cashback? Do they email acknowledgement upon submission? Do they email upon payment? I haven't done this before.

    • takes some time but you'll get it

    • Within 60 days of receiving your fully completed registration details together with your proof of purchase

  • +3

I got the Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop from Officeworks for $83.60, which was price-matched for Umart who has it at $88.

$31.6 (After $52 cashback) is an awesome price for this keyboard / mouse combo, for people who are familiar with this layout.

    • can you upload your receipt, the officeworks store i called won't price match citing "Return to Base warranty" which sounds like bs

      • I just got the same keyboard price match at Officeworks Chadstone

        • +2

any chance you can upload the receipt to photobucket/imageshack, etc

    • For those near pccasegear.com.au ($89)(southeast Vic) I price matched this with officeworks and got it for 84.55 so with cash back will come to $32.55

    • I bought from OW for 80.56 with price match against Skycomp.com.au, who offers pick-up from Sydney CBD.

  • Thanks OP. Got Wireless Mouse Delivered for FREE + $1.09 Profit !

    $72 + $10.91 shipping = $82.91 - $84 CASHBACK :)

      • 3 x Microsoft Touch Mouse

      • the 3KJ-00005 with $28cashback

We have plenty of time to find the bargains over the January sales etc. I want to be paid for my free Microsoft gear. Yeah!
    No need to rush.

  • A good deal, thanks OP. Bought the Wedge Mobile Keyboard from CompAlliance:

Wanting to grab a wireless 360 controller for my PC.

    My best bet PLE Computers?

    https://www.ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?InventoryItemId=601486

Shipped to Adelaide for about $40.

If I get it from PLE does it count as a participating retailer? Noticed on the MS website it only lists some major chains.

    • +3

      It does say "PLE Computers".

    • +7

      Smacks head

For the billionth time in this thread

It's right there in the OP. Maybe Syba might want to bold it and write it 20 times for people to actually read!

      • +5

Sorry guys I've become what I've most loathed…someone who doesn't read the OP.

Have so many tabs open and I thought I HAD read the OP. Few too many cheap beers.

        Thank you for your patience.

        • +2

Were they ozb beers at least?

        • +2

          @Putnum:

          Of course.

      • -1

        So, is PLE included?

  • +5

RE: Wireless Xbox 360 Controller for Windows JR9-00012

in Sydney and I checked every single company on the list. PLE comes in @ $30 + $10.96 shipping = $40.96 - cashback = $20.96 out of pocket

however its better if you need 2 or the max of 3 claims

I needed two and the shipping only rose to $11.74 total.

the total out of pocket for two controllers delivered is = $31.74 (71.74 - 40)

alot of the companies either don't sell any 360 controllers or sell the other model number that is for xbox only. (so just be mindful to check the model number)

for those wondering the only difference between these and the xbox 360 wireless controllers are these come with an adapter that allow you play on your PC. However, if you don't need the adapter you can just leave it in the box. these are otherwise the same as the xbox 360 wireless controllers.

    • +1

Thanks for the tip. Now sell one our of the two usb dongles to bring it down even more.

  • Does anyone know if the xbone controller will become the default gaming peripheral for Windows in the future? I'm hanging out for a cheap second controller, but this deal hasn't delivered :/

    • +1

I think you're pretty safe with the xbone controller. MS have lots investigated in the xbox platform and it's not going anywhere.

    • +1

It won't go away (and I think it's supported by any games that support 360 pads on PC), but it certainly won't ever be as popular as the 360 pads were/are on PC. You can only use it wired, for starters.

  • damn it…i just purchased my microsoft keyboard a week ago…from ow

    • +5

Buy another one, then return the new one using the old receipt?

  • Just ordered Xbox wireless controller ($37- $20CB) + Xbox use controller ($25- $16CB) + Bluetooth keyboard ($49 - $40CB) from Umart Online. Will pick up in store.
