Isn't the Lumia 1520 for $436 a better deal… better camera, better build quality, just better all round? I guess windows would be an issue for some but I would take the 1520 any day, unless I am missing something about the one plus one?
Oh and add to that they new Denim update which drastically improves the camera features…

      http://www.harveynorman.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=1520

      • +3

Are you sure you like Windows Mobile for $436?

        • +13

Why the down votes? I was just suggesting another phone for people…

and in response, like I already said "I guess windows would be an issue for some but I would take the 1520 any day"… Sorry for having an opinion…

Every app I need is on the windows phone apart from Nike+ for running but I would't run with a phone bigger than 5inch anyway. I don't play games on a phone so that does not worry me… What other apps do you need? Name some. No doubt the store is not even close to the level of Android or iOS but would love to know what you are missing on windows in terms of apps? In terms of user interface it is IMHO and others opinions, one of the nicest and easiest to use.

Windows OS has never slowed down or crashed once since I have been using it… ever.
I get here maps lifetime with maps across the world free, nokia music free I can use my xbox music subscription on my phone and xbox one for one fee (and before the kids get in a war about PS4 being better, I also have a PS4… and the music unlimited app was useless last time I used it on android.) Yes Android is a ripper OS but it isn't the best OS to everyone.

Again I don't care what people buy, but this down voting because I mentioned windows phone just shows the maturity of people who want to start sht over an operating system…

iOS, Android, Windows are all good, they just suit different people. Don't like the 1520? Don't buy it… but others might prefer it and find the link helpful.

Yeah buy Windows and iOS if you like being told what to do.

          @DisabledUser142941:

People normally use a lot of apps which is why they find windows phones horrible. Here are some I use

          Airplayer (recieve airplay transmissions),
          Playstation App for PS4 etc
          Firefox
          FTP Server
          Flight Radar 24 pro
          iSpy Connect
          IFTTT
          Kodi
          Google Maps
          Dosbox
          PSX Emulator
          Nintendo DS Emulator
          Scanner Radio
          NZB/Usenet Downloader
          Steam
          uTorrent
          Waze
          Splashtop
          Spotify
          Battle.net
          AC Unity
          ABC Radio
          Download Manager
          Fing

And all the widgets as well.

The issue is there might be some similar apps that are poor quality or cost money.

        • @samfisher5986:
You use utorrent on your phone?!?!

        • @bargdebarg:

          There's an app now.

        • @bargdebarg: it's a beautiful thing. Using it as a torrentbox overnight etc. saves me quite a bit of electricity

          Windows phone doesn't have:

          CommSec
          FireFox
          Trello
          Tasker
          Google apps

      • +6

The 1520 is a fantastic phone but the WP app ecosystem blows. I actually moved from a 1520 to a OPO a few months back and while I feel like the 1520 is a better phone the app situation on Android makes the OPO a far better purchase overall

        • -4

quote "I guess windows would be an issue for some but I would take the 1520 any day"… this is just a personal opinion, I am not telling people they should buy the 1520 over the android… that is for the individual to decide for themselves as they both are pretty much identical prices.

lol down votes for this comment also, no worries, no point even making an account on ozbargain, seems most of the people on here are just a bunch of stay at home bong heads…

  • Not too many released several months back hold their value quite like this one. Greatest phone purchase so far yet.

    • +3

It holds its value because it's sold with a very low margin right from the get-go.

      • +2

True. Marketing budget was $500, or some trivial amount.
This is why I am One with the One+1. Quite a something.

      • when I bought accessories for my note 4, I didn't receive the email until a week later. Plus I haven't received the money yet, as they must wait till the refund period has ended.

        • Cool, only just started using them- with BookWorld the cashback notice was instant

  • Is this a good phone? I am not very excited about a Chinese owned company. I have a Sony Xperia Z which I want to replace. Is this a good replacement? Suggestions please!

    • +2

Phone is apparently fantastic… if you get one without any defects. Build quality is spotty, but from what I've read online, if you get one in good nick out of the box, it'll keep you very happy. Certainly the most phone you'll get for the money.

    • happy reading
      http://www.engadget.com/2014/05/08/oneplus-one-review/
you can search on Google yourself for more reviews

Basically with this phone you will not be restricted to the manufacturer's built-in ROM as it is a custom ROM, you'll have full control of this phone and update whenever there's update available released by CyanogenMod

      • I can still do that with my current phone (or any rooted phone). What's so special about this one?

        • +1

i guess the price seeing though the specs blow out any phone under ~$700

id luv to get one esp that i smashed my s4 but if the phone does end up having problems I seriously cbf dealing with it and the time wasted to solve it

        • +1

@cumova: That and the fact that you will have to not only spend money on the postage but also DWI will return your money "after" deducting their own postage cost. So you will have to pay twice the postage amount which could possibly kill the whole savings.
That is why I like sticking to Australian vendors, other than the fact that I support local business which is good for "our" economy.

    • The specs are on par with the LG G3 which was selling at $700 when I bought my OPO for $200 less. It also has more storage than the G3. 3GB of ram is amazing :)

    • You should try flashing your Xperia with a Lollipop rom, the XZ is still a very good device and will run it perfectly.

      http://www.blinkenlights.ch/ccms/android/yuga-l.html

Note: You do need to unlock your bootloader which wipes DRM keys, to back it up you need to root your current ROM and follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598

I don't usually suggest custom rom's on OzBargain but this is too good of an opportunity to not give it a try!

Edit: Changed link to new version of Backup TA

      • Thanks. I might give this a go during the mythmas holidays.

    • I have an OPO and there are a couple of niggles with it, but overall i find it an excellent phone considering what i payed for it.

Current issues i have with it is that turning the speakerphone on causes an echo for the person you're talking to on the phone, and that the vibration strength of the phone is rather weak (at least compared to my previous phones). its very easy to have the phone in your pocket and not feel it vibrate.

Buyers should be aware that they are importing a mobile phone that is not certified for use in Australia, nor for connecting to Australian cellular networks.

It is not specified how the Hong Kong supplier is handling the AC Charger 'problem', but they will most probably supply a plug adapter.

    Despite the claims made here:-

    "14 Day money back guarantee
In addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, DWI provides a 14 days Money Back Guarantee. If you are not satisfied, or change your mind about your purchase, you may request to return the items within 14 days from the invoice date subject to the following conditions:

    • Request for return of goods under the 14 Day money back guarantee
    • Must be sent to [email protected]
    • Item must be returned to an address of our choosing with in the 14 days of invoice.
    • Item must be in original condition with all product packaging, booklets/manuals, swing tags, labels and all other accessories included.
    • The item returned must NOT be used, worn or damaged, and are in re-saleable condition when returned.
    • Amount refunded will be item price excluding postage and handling.
    • If any of the money back guarantee requirements are not met, then the return will be rejected.
    • Refunds will be processed within 3 working days of receipt of the item being returned.

Purchaser is responsible for all return shipping fees and insurance charges to the address of our choosing.

Rights Under the Australian Consumer Law
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure."

The buyers have no rights under Australian Consumer Law. These phones are classed as 'private imports', and the buyers are the importers.

DWI do offer a one year warranty, with a local Australian phone number. Of course there is no Two Year Australian Consumer Guarantee. Be aware that you may have to send the phone back to Hong Kong, or DWI may get a local repairer to attend to any problems.

    • "The buyers have no rights under Australian Consumer Law. These phones are classed as 'private imports', and the buyers are the importers."

What makes you say that? Kogan sells grey imports but you are still protected under Australian Consumer Law.

      • What makes you say that?

Nothing made me say that. It is a fact.

Kogan sells grey imports but you are still protected under Australian Consumer Law.

        NO that is not correct.

Kogan Pty. Ltd., an Australian company, DOES NOT sell "grey imports". If they did they would have to collect and remit GST on the sales, and they would have to pay tax on the profits.

Kogan HK Limited, a Hong Kong company, sells mobile phones, consumer electronics, etc., from Hong Kong to Australian customers. These items may be Hong Kong Market items or may be "grey imports" to Hong Kong from other markets (USA, Europe, other Asia countries). When Australians buy from Kogan HK Limited, often via the Kogan.com.au website or via eBay, they the customers are the importers. These purchases are not covered by Australian Consumer Protection legislation.

        • Eh, I know I pay Kogan HK but that doesn't mean they're exempt from ACL. When they refused to refund my broken HTC One V, I invoked my consumer rights and they quickly backed down and refunded my money.

Do you have a reference to where in the ACL it says these purchases are not protected? It seems to say explicitly the opposite - that the business doesn't need to be legally within Australia. The Checkout looked at ozgameshop as one example, which operates out of the UK. ACL applied there - how it can be enforced is another matter.

I can tell you exactly what happens as I bought the One Plus from DWI and it stopped working after a couple of months.

      • Phone powered off and wouldn't power back on.
      • Contact DWI on Nov 10.
      • Told to send phone to Sydney.
      • Sent on 12th.
      • Received on Nov 17.
      • Quoted 2 to 4 weeks for the phone to be fixed as they had to send to Hong Kong.
      • Fixed on Nov 26 and sent back.
      • Received on Dec 1. (2 week turnaround.)

Quite surprised and happy with the resolution however it is only a 1 year warranty.

      • Sounds like better support than most people get buying from OnePlus. That said, I bought from OnePlus and bloody love the phone.

        • Yeah dealing with OnePlus directly is horrible but if you have a good reseller like DWI then they handle the warranty themselves.

        • @Agret: Luckily I haven't had any issues with mine. Worth the gamble anyway.

      • @neil legend
        Thanks for this info

    • Replying to my own post, because somehow the first line disappeared.

      It was -

"Great phone and a good price."

and was the reason I gave this deal a Positive vote.

      Band:
      2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
      3G: WCDMA 850/ 900/1900/2100MHz
      4G: FDD-LTE 2100/1800/2600MHz

Based on the provided information, the phone will be fine for 2G and 3G. For 4G:
      Telstra has FDD-LTE 700/1800/2600; phone can't support FDD-LTE 700
      Vodafone has FDD-LTE 850/1800; phone can't support FDD-LTE 850
      Optus has FDD-LTE 700/1800 TDD-LTE 2300; phone can't support FDD-LTE 700, TDD-LTE 2300

  • Sigh…just bought this on Sunday for $470 delivered…

  • +1

Bought it on the last deal, delivery took 4 working days and the phone has no faults -knocks on wood-. I highly suggest it, especially for this price. It will last for at least 2 years, and there is a repair centre in Sydney.

    • Is it an american adaptor and they supply Australian convert adaptor?

      • Yeah I received adapter with mine, haven't had any problems charging the phone off any of my other adapters though (Nexus 5 charger, Galaxy Nexus charger, iPhone charger (horribly slow), car charger) all seem to work fine with it.

    • Does 4G/LTE work on this phone here?

      • Yes. Both versions (Chinese/International) work here. It's only in the US where you will need the International version.

        GizChina

      • 4G working no problems on my phone. The bands it supports doesn't cover the entire spectrum but it does enough for me.

        • +1

It depends which mobile company you're with. Optus/Telstra covers most of the 4G bands. Vodafone on the other hand doesn't have many compatible bands.

    • there is a repair centre in Sydney.

I believe that it is not "a repair centre". I think it is just someone who acts as a local agent/representative for DWI.

  • Cashrewards brings it down down….oil, coles, dwi down down down

  • +2

Bought this in the last deal. The vibration module in the phone sucks (cheap and flimsy feeling when phone is on vibrate. Has an odd effect on the housing) other than that no usual issue suffered (screen is not yellow). If you install custom roms you can get the screen calibrate option back which is great.

  • Where is a suitable case for this? Can someone link one please?
    Regards.

    • I want a good case as I tend to drop them freuently.

    • +2

This is the case I got for mine. Was recommend in the One Plus forums. Looks great and it's cheap.

      • thanks dude.

      • +2

That's the same case I have, I got the black one. Looks good, screen turns on automatically when you open case, screen turns off automatically when you close the case and it has a decent seal. The automatic wake/sleep of the screen is a really handy feature as pressing the power button on a phone this large was a pain. The case does have one flaw that is when your phone is in you won't feel it vibrate.

  • no wireless charging on these phones

  • +1

Is this the official global one or Chinese one with 11s installed?

    • Its the chinese one but they install 11S after rooting it i think.

      • I don't think they root it. I think they just unlock the bootloader and flash 11S. Then they probably lock the bootloader again.

        • Do they get OTA updates still? Do the International ones get OTA updates?

        • @TheContact:

          Yes they get OTA Updates.

  • A friend ordered one, but did not remember to use cashback. I said cancel and reorder. Will work?

Bought One (pun intended) couple of weeks ago from DWI for 470 :(
Its a pretty snappy phone. No issues hardware or software wise!

  • Damn you Clarky! My brain saw your Avatar and the number '64' in the title and I had a great retro flashback for a few milliseconds… until the rest of the text was absorbed bringing me back to 2014 :(

  • Do these include the Nano Sim Trays that come with the OPO straight from the company?

    • Yes.

  • +1

    This or the G3

    • +2

      This! :)

  • +1

Good deal OP.Also, if anyone's interested, we can now buy the phone direct form Oneplus without invites.

    • how?

      • Yes I'm thinking that isn't possible to an Aussie address (yet). I received an invite this week but it would have required delivery to a different country.
It appears OnePlus is focusing on the big emerging economies like India before they bother with us.

  • Whats the difference besides the back cover with the one direct from OnePlus?

2 weeks ago - I bought the sandstone 64gb version direct from OnePlus and redirected using Australia post's shop mate service.

All in all costed me ~$460.

Did I just pay $32 for a different back cover? lol!

EDIT: prices above are in AUD
