    Great price!

Though be aware, these can be picked up by customs depending how picky the officer is feeling.

I pay the extra $5 each and buy them locally to avoid that risk.

    • Why? What's the restriction?

      • Not sure if the rules have changed, but importing a radio transmitter into Australia that wasn't properly approved had penalties similar to importing illegal drugs!

No idea how this all works with mobile phones as these would fall into this category.

Since they are Transmitters, one needs a Ham Licence
(costing OVER $72 PER BLOODY YEAR), which, of course,
are -FREE- in CA, NZ, SE, UK, USA, etc.

        "Australia' Radio Regulator: Taxing Intelligence"

        My license expired… :-/

        And… I've been selling my radios since… :-(

Got ideas / comments for AU's ACMA "next decade of Ham Radio" regulations…?

Here's your chance to submit them to ACMA for their soon to be updated/re-written:

The next ~decade of Ham Radio reg's is regularly "rewritten" (Read: More "make-work" for Canberrans? or… for the sons & daughters of Canberans in the Public Service… Who knows?)

Assuming WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE (even if WIA [are-they-in-bed-with-ACMA?] =persists= in ACCEPTING & and trying to convince Australian Hams, that paying =OVER= $72 PER YEAR (for our Ham Licenses) =MORE= than our counterparts, in CA, NZ, SE, UK, USA, etc. (who enjoy FREE, & long-term, sometimes even LIFETIME - Read: paperwork-saving - Licenses) "is the only way we can be sure that greedy ACMA will allow Ham Radio to go on existing in AU. I say: Rubbish!)

(Countries like Canada don't need to create such "make-works jobs" they want Canadians to be Educated & working on more challenging, engaging & higher-paying projects than -SLOWLY- processing applications for Ham License renewals

See how long it takes a Ham to renew their ACMA Amateur Radio License for longer than 1 year, which is the default period on the renewal-form (yes, BL*DDY Dead-Tree PAPER!), that every Aussie Ham receives - from =wasteful= ACMA, whenever their Ham License is about to laps.

ACMA has NO way to collect your renewal payment as an efficient, private sector business would facilitate online)

… eg, Canada designed the CanDU reactor, & - while AU persists with anti-social Fossil-Fuel - read Coal [& Natural Gas?] - Electricity Generation, other lands (incl Canada) enjoy nearly "effortless" Nuclear, among other forms.

Work Smarter, Not Harder, eg, in -unnecessarily- risky ways (in the food-chain) leading to Electricity Generation)

        • @IVI:

Amen brother. Couldn't have said it better.

          @CeeAyeEee:
Duck !!…. here comes the dummy.. LOL

  • Do you have any radios that comply with and have the Japan Technical Conformity Mark?

Have an upcoming trip to Japan and like to get a couple.

    • Don't you mean an Australian-issued mark?

      Normally, when you're exporting transmitters,
you need the -destination- land's mark(s).

      • No I meant the Japanese Technical Conformity Mark.

I would like to get a couple of cheap radios for use while in Japan as using AU/US radio frequencies is illegal.

Can always buy them when I get there, but still no reason to not inquire from the OP.

  • Hi OP! Any ear pieces compatible with the KENWOOD NX 320?

  • This is a RECURRING "deal" if not an "everyday price"

Has anyone - who ordered last time - actually RECEIVED your $29 radio(s), yet???

    (Could this be a Scam?)

Got mine (UV-5R) and programmed it a couple of nights ago. All working fine, but be aware the antenna is not good with this model and I would recommend a higher gain third party one. I like these and have a few:

      http://www.radioddity.com/us/radio-accessories/antenna/nagoy…

Have also had a headphone amp delivered no problems from this site.

The GT-3 is probably a better buy as I hear the stock antenna is quite good. Very tempted OP :)

      • Included antennas usually suck (even in some Yaesu's)… it's built-in "up-sell" IMO. :-/

The UV-82 is only slightly more expensive and generally referenced as a better device.

However, since prices are in US$ (and may or may not include shipping) nothing here is a stand-out bargain since the price is much the same as any random vendor on AliExpress.

  • so how do the channel options here measure up against the aust 80 channels.

Can i still select ch40 or ch18 etc ?? or is it different ?

    • It is not legal to use these units outside of Amateur Radio bands (holding an appropriate license). Slap on the wrist for mentioning this OP ;-) Although, probably OK if you just want to listen, or for emergency transmissions…

    • You have to program them (need the software and either USB/serial port to connect to PC). Some sellers sell pre-programmed radios for AU channels. If you don't want to get into trouble and don't like to tinker with radios, just buy some cheap walkie talkies (Uniden, Oricom etc) from an AU store.

I hope more OzBargainers buy RF radios for the upcoming zombie apocalypse…We can all still communicate and share deals while the world is getting over-run by zombies…LMAO.

    • yep… i already have 3 flints for fire starting, a compass, a credit card size knife screwdriver thingy, and bug out bag (all purchased care of OzBargain website)- so I'm set too!

What I really need to complete the Zombie Emergency pack is a decent knife though.
Preferably 99c with free shipping, so its super quality like the rest of my stuff ;).

    • Let's be realistic. These handheld - without a repeater - won't get you very far.

But… getting a Ham License does open the door to opening & using (HF / VHF / UHF) multi-band mobile radios, etc. that can be relied on for longer range, eg, after big storms, bush fire(s), etc. make it harder to communicate via normal means.

Such radios also rock for Outback travel. Talk to folks around the world (eg, on HF) as you drive.

Also unlawful - except in Life & Death Emerg (LADE) - there's an app that enables [many] recent Ham HF rigs to enable them to call / contact RFDS or other Outback radio club members (there are 2 such Clubs, AFAIK, one that offers an interconnect to the POTS phone network).

The app just generates the sequences of tones that call a station of interest & give your Club call code.

This should answer a lot of questions for you and others I hope.

  • Has anyone even had delivery of these without issues with the customs. This Two-Way Radio has been on ozb for a while now and would be good to get feedback from members who bought and got it delivered.

    • +1

I bought a few from eBay/DX/other Chinese sellers, no problems so far.

    • +1

Have bought 2 seperate UV-5R's and a single UV-3R. In January im buying 5x Baogfeng GT-3's. On my recommendation i've had other friends buy these via China with no import issues.

Not Customs, but AusPost "lost" a ~ $400 auto-antenna tuner. I should have gotten ~$155 (partial-) compensation (on the uninsured package), but AusPost send it to HK Post, who sends to to vendor - RadioGearPro.com… who - in my case - either never got it, or (more likely?) just didn't send it.

  • use ALDNOAHRX for $5 off orders over $50, feel free to update post:)
I do hope they arrive ok thru customs though

  • I understand the legalities of such devices, but surely if you're not broadcasting and generally being a knob on the channel drawing attention to yourself, I think you'd be ok 'listening'.

A great device to have in an emergency situation.

    • +1

And yes, I will call you "surely" :).

    • but sadly there is always the "knob" that just can't help himself.. :-(
I did read somewhere a while back where someone was playing silly bugger on the wrong frequency and they came and just took his equipment.

  • Funny that collectors of ex-Mil or "surplus" Mil.Spec. gear can keep & (if they're Hams) use them, even without programming them for Ham-only Transmit.

  • At what distance do these stop receiving signal?
