    WARNING

Even at half price, DO NOT BUY THIS!

Read the reviews on Apple's own web site.

    • Ummmm its an apple product and one that comes standard with a Macbook Air…

      !??!

      • Ummmm its an apple product and one that comes standard with a Macbook Air…

        It is a "dud" product.

Reviews for the MagSafe 45w are pooled together. Some for the previous model. Read only those for the MagSafe 2 and you will see that it receives the lowest possible score - one star. If it were possible to give zero stars - it would have a score of zero.

        • If we have Macbook air, what should we use to charge it, beside switching to x86 laptop.

    • What would you recommend then?…….

        What would you recommend then?…….

If a second charger is required. I recommend looking for the earlier model MagSafe 45W with an adaptor.

Otherwise you may be able to use the newer 60W MagSafe. Your device will draw what it needs. However there may be a small difference in voltage - questions that are being asked but not answered on the Apple site.

Yes but even with the poor reviews you still need it to charge your laptop. Personally Ive never had any issues with my charger or the way I use it, but I wish i had a second charger at work so i can grab my laptop and leave in a hurry.

even with the poor reviews you still need it to charge your laptop.

You don't need the Mark 2 45w model. You can use the previous model, or other Apple MagSafe 'Chargers'.

Personally Ive never had any issues with my charger or the way I use it,

Yes, but which charger do you have? The 45w MagSafe 2? We have three Apple MagSafe chargers at the moment - no problems, because none are the MagSafe 2 45w.

        • You don't need the Mark 2 45w model.

You do if you have a newer MacBook… Otherwise you need MagSafe 1 with an adaptor.

Yes. This is correct. However, it does not change the fact that this MagSafe 2 45W is a bad design.

If one needs a second charger - it would be best to use a different model with the adaptor, and wait for Apple to improve/replace this charger model before buying another one.

Yes you do for current model laptops. Why would i search for an old Magsafe charger when I have a new laptop?

I have the MagSafe 2 because i have a current model laptop.

Why would i buy an old charger and adaptor for more than twice this deal? and have to have an adapter hanging out also. I have had no issues with Magsafe 2.

    • whats the actual problem.
I need to buy a new charger for my sons Air that's 2 years old.

      • whats the actual problem.

        1) The MagSafe 2 is a bad design.
        2) The MagSafe 2 posted here as a bargain - is not a bargain as it is not available for purchase.

I need to buy a new charger for my sons Air that's 2 years old.

If your original charger has failed in some way, take it to Apple to be replaced under Consumer Guarantee.

If you want to buy a second charger, buy a MagSafe. (Not the MagSafe 2).

        • thanks but you didnt answer. whats the problem with the 2 design that makes it so bad please.

The original is damaged so apple wouldn't replace nor would I expect them to do so.

          As I said previously-
"Read the reviews on Apple's own web site"

          http://store.apple.com/au/product/MD506X/A/apple-85w-magsafe…

I guess if it was accidental damage, no - they will not replace under guarantee.

However, in this case, there should be a reduced price 'out-of-warranty' option for you.

This OOW replacement charger does not come with the Plug/Cable and is supplied in a plain box.

I do not understand why it was not offered to you.

        • Mate, it was available for purchase and it either sold out or they changed the link, deal with it.

I was asking what the prob with version 2 actually is.

        • +1

@PVA: sorry pva I was answering the other guy. Its all good :)

          @A3Australia:
Thanks for the link. The problem most mention is the exact problem we have , very tempermental with the charging. We need to connect multiple times or get the cable just right before it will charge.

the damage is actually the outer plastic cover coming off from near the mag connector, no damage, it just started to do it a month or two back. Reading the reviews on your like this is a common problem as well.

Maybe we will just take it in and ask for a fix.

It is not clear to whom you are replying.

However, I called TGG and they checked their stores. According to TGG it was not available at that price.

          Thanks for the link.

No problem. Perhaps I should have included the link in my first post (where I said "Read the reviews on Apple's own web site."), but I was posting from a Smartphone at that time.

So, it was not accidental damage. This should be covered under warranty (if under 12 months old) or under the Consumer Guarantee if under 2 years old.

Maybe we will just take it in and ask for a fix.

No, make an appointment at an Apple Store and request a replacement unit.

Did not know you needed Apple Electricity(tm), damn proprietary stuff

  • -1

    There are different variations.

The MagSafe 2 is the problem one.

You can use one of the other types.

    There is an adaptor available.

    • +2

Having used a lot of magsafe 1 adapters that have failed insulation just next to the magsafe connector, I can't really say that going back to the T configuration was necessarily bad, as the reviews on the apple site seems to imply. I have less issues with the T configuration actually. But all in all, apple is just unable to produce solid power cords.

  • Says cannot buy product when trying to click buy now

  • Yes.

    Says

The product "65002" cannot be ordered.

  • OP. I think the reason this item is only $57 is that there are none available for sale.

If I did not have any, I could offer this item for $49.95
