Christmas Special: FREE $30 Gift Certificate to Use at Mapwheel.com

OZBARGAIN

What is a MapWheel?

A MapWheel is a customised direction plaque for your home. Coffee tables and outdoor tables make a great place to display them. You design yours on-line by entering your home location and then places that hold significance to you. The MapWheel will show the exact direction and distance to these locations. They are made by laser engraving your image into beautiful timbers such as Queensland Maple, Silver Beech and Bamboo. So every MapWheel is a completely unique and personal piece; perfect for a novel Christmas gift.

How our offer works

We thought a Gift Certificate would be a great gift idea for Christmas. It won't cover the whole cost of a MapWheel but the FREE $30 Gift Certificate will make a great stocking filler. It will be emailed to you as an A4 PDF attachment which you can then print and put inside a Christmas card. Simply press the "Give a MapWheel" button on our website to redeem your free Gift Certificate using the coupon code: OZBARGAIN. You can of course use the coupon code against the purchase of a MapWheel instead of a Gift Certificate. There's a limit of 5 per customer so that's $150 worth of Gift Certificates for FREE!

Our product was only just launched in October and we guarantee you won't find anything like it anywhere in the world. So it's perfect for that hard-to-buy-for person.

Generally what does one cost rj?

    • +2

seems to be full price of $120

    • +1

The full cost of a MapWheel is $119.90

  • There seems to be an error while trying to add new locations. "Something went wrong" keeps appearing, just a heads up.

    • Would you mind letting me know what equipment you're on, operating system and browser? We had a similar report a few weeks ago but we can't work out why.

      • Sorry for the late reply - just noticed this message. Windows 8, Google Chrome.

  • So, if I turn my coffee table, its wrong? Hmmm, gonna have to ensure I don't move, and no one touches the coffee table.

    • +1

You use the compass app on your phone to orient to Magnetic North and then all direction pointers are accurate. Once you know where north is its pretty easy to set it back down on the table if someone picks it up.

      LOL… for a tiny piece of wood…

      • Hi jv, everyone is custom manufacturered

        • @jv: We have to accept there will be some haters

        • @rjbolden:

We have to accept that some people try and rip you off with overpriced goods…

        • when you say custom made does that mean we can request one the size of a hubcap?

Or are you referring to custom with regard to various points on the compass being unique?

      • +1

        Damn they are tiny.

        • +1

About the same size as a coffee cup coaster, and the have the gall to charge $120 for such a small piece of wood.

How is that a bargain ???

Sorry I'm not seeing $120 worth of value in this product. It's nice, but not THAT nice

    • +4

Every piece is custom made - cut on a $50K CNC machine, engraved on an $80K laser engraver, hand sanded, hand lacquered (2 coats), oiled, packed in a printed draw string cotton bag, carton and then shipped for free. There's no mass production happening here. We have to accept that not everyone will see value in that.

      • +3

There's no mass production happening here.

Who cares? It's still over priced.

Just because you decided to over capitalise, doesn't make this a bargain…

If it was made in China, for the same quality, it would probably cost under $10 including shipping…

        • -3

We were warned about serial haters on this site

        • +3

          @rjbolden:

We were warned about unscrupulous store Reps selling overpriced merchandise.

        • @rjbolden:
Were you also warned about serial neggers? Few of us including myself have habit of negging useless comments ….

        • +1

@rjbolden: This was your first big mistake in the comments. Notice not a single person has given the deal a +1. You need to head back to the drawing board.

…and the hole it leaves in your wallet.

How do you know that? Do you contact them all and ask them?

Or are you just making that part up ???

        • We have a list of people who have emailed very nice thankyou's

        • +1

We have a list of people who have emailed very nice thankyou's

          You said most

I suspect you are making up the part about the emails anyway… Fake reviews are a very common way to sell overpriced items…

        • @jv: There are no reviews on our site

        • @rjbolden:

I'm referring to your 'alleged' emails that you have used to make the claim that 'most' people are thrilled when they receive these…

  • +1

The bargain here is the ability to print your own for free (while designing one) =)

    • Yes, please do. That might be a good option for jv

      • +1

That might be a good option for jv

        Not for $120 it isn't…

"We thought a Gift Certificate would be a great gift idea for Christmas."

I would be embarrassed to print out these vouchers and give them as gifts…
People would probably appreciate receiving these printouts more…

        • +1

jv, you might have missed that you can design one and print it for FREE…..which is more in your price bracket.

        • @rjbolden:

jv, you might have missed that you can design one and print it for FREE

Any how is that a bargain ?

Do you normally charge people to allow them to type some text in on your website ?

    • +1

I had the same idea… Until I realised that pretty much any location worth mentioning is generally North of here! (I couldn't think of too many places South of here worth putting on it, and it was starting to look a little top heavy.)

  • +1

    Wow, that escalated quickly.

    • +1

Yes, a bit of a surprise to me….our first venture into a platform like this….I was warned though.

      • If you were warned then you should not have ventured out…Dirty world man…stay inside and stay safe….

      • I was warned though.

Then you should have known that this is a bargain website, not one to 'advertise' overpriced items… Use ebay for that…

Come back here when you can offer a bargain price…

  • +1

Looks like a cool product, but if it's only the size of a coaster that's pretty disappointing. Also, most of the places of significance I'd like to point out are in Europe, Asia etc. Can't have separate arrows pointing at Istanbul, Dubrovnik and Tallin - can only have one. Kinda makes it good only if you have places within Australia you want an arrow pointing towards. More of a northern hemisphere thing I suspect.

    • MapWheels are 210mm in diameter and 8mm thick with 4 small rubber feet on the back lifting it about 2mm of the surface. A mix of local and overseas places works pretty well.

      • +2

        MapWheels are 210mm in diameter

        Shame…

        It's too small for a coffee cup coster… :(

  • who cares? oh wait JV does…

    • +1

      I'm a caring person figarow

  • +1

This is actually made by the government and they're using it to spy on us by getting the exact location of our lounge rooms. Be warned. /s

All seriousness though, would be cool to have an outdoors one of these made out of stone, that doubles as an outdoor dining table.

    • would be cool to have an outdoors one of these made out of stone, that doubles as an outdoor dining table.

Rep would probably charge you over $50K for one that size…

We're working on other materials such as stainless steel, coloured anodised aluminium and stone such as granite. Stainless steel will be rolled out by early next year and the others by the middle of next year. Plus we'll be offering different size options as times goes on.

      • +1

        See Putnum, I warned you…

      • +1

But you are again warned…so careful next time..

the one in the picture looks like it's made out of plywood! for $120 i'd expect solid mahogany at least.

    • +1

or $120 i'd expect solid mahogany at least.

weighing at least a kilo or two…

      ALSO,
      Look closely at the pic.

It has an obvious join in it…

It isn't even a solid piece of wood. It is made out of small cheap off cuts !!!

    I think I did it wrong….

    • No, it looks right. You just need to add other places.

If you didn't intend to have Mexico as the home location, just go and change it.

  • +5

    I think I did mine right http://i62.tinypic.com/2u9txr5.png

  • offer sounds good but overall the product is exxy

  • I must say damn, I didn't mind the sound of this… until I read about the size of it. I'm now thinking it would be a little embarrasing to display it!

  • Saw this in the local paper, and thought it was a good idea.
Even with the discount, at $90 it is pretty costly for such a small item.
+1 for an innovative product, but I reckon you would sell a lot more at $50.

    • +1

but I reckon you would sell a lot more at $50.

if it was a lot bigger, used good quality wood and not off-cuts that are glued together…

      +1 for an innovative product,

+1 is supposed to be for bargains

      • By the rules of the site, this qualifies. The deal offers $30 off the best price otherwise available.
Might as well rant against apple deals if you are concerned about high costs.
        Oh wait, you do ;-)

  • OK so $120 is overpriced for joined timber that takes less than 10minutes to make with $50k CNC machine and $80k laser. Probably much fairer at around $40.

Surely there is an app to do this. Could DIY with pyrograph pen. Or paint on a nice old plate. Use as a bowl for keys, pens, junk etc.
