I've never played stratego, but you might enjoy Puerto Rico. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3076
I haven't played it, but it's been around for a while… -> http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1917
Will have a look at the selection, thanks to poster; though I'm more interested in games like Citadels or Arkham, and they probably aren't on the list…
Stratego
Each piece is a little wall, with the piece denominator on one side only.
The board is a grid
You place your pieces so that only you see what your pieces are.
There are rules about what piece can move and how many spaces etc plus who can take out who.
When one piece moves onto a square with another piece, then you both get to see the face values of each piece.
I think the pieces of numbers 1 to 9. I think a piece 1 can take out any higher value with certain exceptions.
Bombs cannot move and kill almost anything that encounters them.
Miners (value 8?) can kill bombs, but you only have a few.
Spies can kill off generals (value 1) if the spy attacks the general (spy dies if the other way around).
The object is to capture the flag.
So, depending how you play:
1) there's an element of trust / reliance on memory that people will follow the rules … though it's sometimes funny when someone quickly and deliberately breaks the rules :P
2) setting up the board is important
3) memory helps a lot …
4) bluffing can come into play too
5) learning how your oponent plays can allow you to use more strategies for success :)
Anyone played stratego?
Me and a buddy play games like Risk quite often and love it. Would you recommend this for us? or even any other game?
