    Honestly any cheap dvd player will do nowadays. If this was a blu-ray player at this price, it'd be a different story. No bargain here.

      Not true. There's still a big difference between DVD players. The cheapest ones like these only have composite output, which is worse than you'd find on a DVD player from 15 years ago. Composite is the same video output that VCRs have. If you pay more you get component or HDMI both of which are vastly superior.

      • That may have been an issue a few years ago but to be fair, I think you'd be hard pressed to find any DVD player these days that doesn't at least have component, let alone HDMI.

          This one has neither

        • @majord:

          Nor does the entry-level Sony model posted a few weeks back.

        • @majord: We'll I'll be damned… Sorry, I'm feeling a bit silly now :s

          I'm just gobsmacked that companies are still producing DVD players without HDMI… :s

          @GreenGuava:

          HDMI is rather pointless for DVD due to it's low resolution and interlaced video - component (not composite) is more than good enough. Where it comes in handy is if you're watching HD video from a USB stick.

  • Not another one! At least this one has a USB port. Still no bargain

  • Same price at The Good Guys
    Compisite video out and 2 channel stereo analogue audio only. Cheaper DVD players like this normally don't have HDMI and/or digital audio out.

  • This is very expensive for what it is.

    Composite video out only!

    I wouldn't even call this one a bargain at $10, let alone $39.

  • Isn't this the standard price for a DVD player these days?.

  • rohitroygre, did you not learn anything from the response to your recent Sony DVD post? And that one was much cheaper!

    Basic DVD players like this are $20-odd. But composite-out tends to look awful on modern TVs. You need component, VGA, or hdmi.

    HN has a nice one for $57 , but I expect they sell very few, when a cheap base-model blu-ray player will have the same features and more.
