  • Still have my G19 and 2x G15's :)

  • Not bad price - has been this price several times before during Dick Smith sales etc - cheapest I've seen it is $117.60 but that was a while ago.

    • Lately DSE have been excluding this one from it's daily specials (the $10 off, the $20 off, etc) not too sure why.

    • That was a very long time ago, and I think a mistake anyway. it was $199 and a 40% off sale, so it should have been a bit higher. Like $2 matters though :P it's a good board.

    • Not only was that deal over a year ago but stock levels were pretty damn low.

From memory there were about 3 keyboards per HN branch when the sale started (I asked a sales rep to do a state-wide stock check). I managed to get one by going an hour out of my way as only two HNs in the entire state had stock leftby the time I went shopping.

      • Very true. It was a discount on all Logitech gear but the stores had none->very little in stock. I was very very very upset and now I still refuse to shop at DSE, even after all my years of loyal service.

  • I tried one of these in store once, and the keys felt very mushy compared to my Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013, even though they both use Blues. Any reason for this?

    • It uses Browns actually and has O-rings pre-installed.

      • It might have been blues, The G710 (blue bit at the side, instead of orange) uses blue keys without O-rings.

        • Yes what's on sale from HN is the G710+ which is better than the original G710 since it has brown switches with the O rings pre-installed.

    • my Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013

No macros, no media keys, no USB hub, no easy-to-use driver suite that can run game-specific profiles for most popular games out of the box and it arguably looks worse. Blues feel like you're doing finger workouts and sound like a woodpecker having a seizure and Reds have an actuation pressure similar to a dandelion spore, and for those of us with large hands, you end up mistyping a novel over the course of a day.

In this price bracket (entry-level Mech KB money), the G710+ has few equals.

      • It's a complete waste of life, spending your time, spruiking your particular brand of cherry "religion". The experience is entirely personal and your results may vary.

I've got two blue switched keyboards (one of the razor he mentions which does have macro keys, the other a ducky shine 3), I've also typed on the corsair k95 RGB at work which has reds, this week and quite frankly, I could live with red, I could live with blue and I bet I could live with brown. All of them exhibit the same necessary thing - which is that you are no longer ramming your finger into a wall all day and within a short period of time, you'd be used to any of them.

  • would people recommend this kb?

    • I have had the G710+ for a few months and it's been great. Seems to be a solid mech keyboard.

    • Yes. My essays here and here attest to this.

    • +1

No, mechanical KB's are like knickerbockers, revived from the stone-age and marketed to appear like they're somehow better than the technology which replaced them. I've even heard people claim that less spelling errors are done on these clunky archaic KB's, that that just means they couldn't type properly to begin with - we made spell-checks for these people.
Try a G15 (or maybe G19), best keyboard out there, won't regret it.
