    A K chip on a non-OC mobo =/

Pretty sure Asrock and many others opened up overclocking options on all 97 chipset motherboards after Intel let them… doesn't have to be Z type any more

EDIT: Yeah, page 51 of the manual http://download.asrock.com/manual/H97M%20Anniversary.pdf

      • Thanks for the heads up.

Yes the CPU/motherboard snafu is a little unfortunate. See kudoz83's comment, haven't really been following this :P Besides CPL, I wouldn't suggest selling an overclocking CPU/motherboard combo otherwise you might have angry (clueless) customers at your doorstep if they somehow break something. :P

Upside is at least the system isn't crippled by the GPU.

  • Price may be a bit high but remember it would not require any upgrades as it comes with a decent SSD size, ODD, decent graphics

it needs an operating system (for the majority of users)

Too much hassle in providing OS, people will complain regardless of what OS the system builder install in. People can always add on when purchasing the PC for a special price

      • They are obviously aware that many people do not need to purchase an operating system. Nudge nudge wink wink. : )

If i needed a new machine i would prefer to buy an assembled and tested, great value machine like this, rather than hunt around for cheapest parts, whack it together, and hope that none are defective.

Imo, the people who purchase machines like this are smarter than the average buyer. Which is why CPL have provided overclockable components and no operating system.

        • wink wink

I will definitely buy built machines too but I will most likely do a lot of custom changes for a special quote price. Too much hassle in building your own PC, I had my CPU cooler blowing the opposite direction for the past 2 years and I only found out last week lol. Was blowing hot air to the front rather than my back fan :(

        • Only in countries like Australia do you have to nudge nudge wink wink.
The vast majority of the population of the world use shared copies of windows and this is normal for them. Ask China.

hm if this was under 1k ($999) I would definitely jump on it…

  • This is a good price for a machine this level. I spent almost $3k on my full rig few years back and performance is similar :(

  • How much extra would it cost to add on the OS at CPL?

Very temped, was going to build my own PC as a project, the components here are very similar, except i'd add maybe
    a 1TB hard drive?
Worthy deal or better to source and build for around the same price? (1000-1100)

    • Not a bad deal, it's really down to personal preference, especially when it comes to how the case looks (and maybe the brand of the graphics card for some people).

It's a solid build, but others might choose to go with a better motherboard for overclocking, and also note that the 8GB of RAM is a single stick. The power supply is also fully modular (bonus) but it doesn't have the nicest sleeving (to me anyway, I've acquired a taste for ribbon cables. But mesh is what you usually get around that price for a power supply unless you fork out extra).

It's cheaper than building it yourself for the exact same parts so it depends on whether YOU like the parts or not. If not you'll obviously have to go down the build-it-yourself route (which always gives extra satisfaction, as long as you don't break anything :P).

      • Thanks for the reply mate. With that case, would it be easy to add something like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler, if i wanted to OC?

        • Swapping a cooler is a piece of piss mate, you'll be fine.

        • True enough although the mounting for the Hyper 212 EVO can be a bit of a mongrel to get right the first time haha.

If it's your first time swapping coolers, have a look at a Youtube video or two specific to the cooler that you wish to buy. Also don't forget to read the instructions too.

That'll give you the general gist on how to prepare the cooler (mount any fans, remove any protective plastic etc.) and apply thermal paste and then the mounting hardware. Much easier than going in blind.

  • Thanks OP! Just placed my order now and transferred the 10% deposit.

Should I have received an order confirmation?

  • Ordered! although no confirmation has come through yet!
