The old "Your car needs XYZ; we're not legally allowed to let you drive this out unless it's replaced…" or is this a good deal?

    • +7

It's free and worth it. I had it done today and thought of sharing it.

A place did try that on me once and they kept trying to pressure me into agreeing so pulled out my mobile, dialled in the local cop shop and showed them it and said do you want me to press "call" and tell them you have stolen my car and refuse to return it?…….problem solved!!

is RACQ doing it up in QLD?

    • -7

If only they had a website that you could check.

sarcasm doesn't translate so well on the interwebs

I got a text from beaurepaires offering this a few weeks ago, I don't think you could go in and get it done without copping a massive sales pitch.
I once had a scoopon for a wheel alignment, pretty sure they did a very vague front wheel only alignment, spent most of the time trying to talking me into buying new wheels and tyres

    • +11

Oh yeas - he asked if I was keen to change any of the wheels. His job is to sell and my job was to get the FREE deal. I think we all have to do what we can do best at that time…

Had a dirt cheap wheel alignment from a bargain on here from beaurepairs quite some time ago (the scoopon one) and all was kosher… no funny business. They did a great job and did not try to upsell at all. (NSW 2289 Kotara)

Remember folks, wheel balance and rotation is different from a wheel alignment.

I hope being an RACV member makes a difference for our Mexican (South of the Border) friends. Past experience with Beaurepairs tells me to mark the tyres, as they are inclined to sign off on doing the rotation while not doing it.

Not bull, direct experience with Beaurepairs. It left me wondering what other work I paid for that wasn't done.

At all, b repairs I've been to you can actually just watch them. Instead of sitting in a different direction. All car places are gonna be dodgy about something one way or another but b repairs is an open plan building, just watch them do it

My experience with bro repairs was very negative.
Bought tyres quoting their sale price, got told that type of tyre is no longer in stock but have a similar tyre but more expensive.

The tyre on offer had the same product code and the same specs, just more expensive.
Complained to their complaints department. Complaints department rang the store, bought the tyres for the sale price advertised.

    FYI, store was in Cragieburn.

People still pay money for RACV?

    • Why? Do you know how to get it free? Or a better roadside assistance association/company?

      • -3

Well pretty much all new cars come with free roadside assistance and even if you don't have a new car I honestly can't remember the last time a modern car (say built after 2000) broken down in my family. Sure growing up in the 80's it was needed but if you can change a tyre its a waste of money.

        • Damn I best hushup I own too many IAG shares

        • @robb6014:
          Separate entities

        • @robb6014: It was a geniune question. I used to get road side assistance free with my ANZ cc but that changed years ago. I've been unfortunate enough to have several flat tyres and batteries in my 2004 & 2008 model cars. I last used them about 2 weeks ago when I had a flat battery at 6pm on the 7th floor of a car park in Dandenong. Was happy to have the membership then.

        • @minniethemoocher:

          Flat battery is user error

        • @JoelWilliam:
Not always, for example my battery died out of the blue & it needed replacement. It was just out of its 2 year warranty & the cells died with no warning. Ironically it was a RACV battery, so got a jump start & replaced it with a non RACV one. But yes human error does happen so it's nice to have the RACV roadside assistance. Like I said it's a geniune question as I would like to find a cheaper/ better alternative.

        • @minniethemoocher:

How often did you check it? The new sealed units have a clear window that displays a colour to indicate health. I agree that 2 years is way too short for a battery, but it wouldn't have been showing green before it died.

      • had a wonderful holiday in one of the RACV resorts. much appreciated their service, joined shortly as a member (no roadside) .

How much is a wheel balance and alignment normally worth?

    Worth getting http://www.racv.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/racv/Internet/Primary…

    ?

    • The deals not an alignment just a rotation and balance then the hard sell, personally I wouldnt bother

    • Alignment $60, Balance $5 x 4, Rotation no charge

      Edit: $5 x 5 (spare)

      • My previous local tyre shop charged $40 for alignment.
I've never been charged for a balance (EVER!!) or rotation.

    • Toyota did a wheel alignment for me for $50

  • Nothing for the NRMA in NSW?

  • Have RACV membership in NSW, not sure if this will work.

    • So you can become a RACV member if you live in NSW?

    • I'd imagine you won't have an issue with RACV in NSW. People sometimes travel far from home :-)

  • NRMA is listing the same deal under 'hot offers' in its 'more4members' benefits. Same code to quote
