Just in case anyone is thinking of taking up this offer - http://www.zgeek.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74576 (Coarse language warning).
    Don't go there unless:
    1) You like being abused
    2) You like 12 month contracts that are difficult to break
    3) etc

    • i hate those types of franchise gyms like fitness first and beach house. try a gym run by university or local council. they have friendly staff and wont try to rip you off.

  • I can say from personal experience that they are the worst company I have ever dealt with - took me 6 months to get them to cancel my contract - about 12 phone calls, and three letters.

  • they are EXTREME on hard sell techniques and are too expensive for what you get. Mind you it was relatively easy for me to cancel with them

  • Google Fitness First and third entry is this:

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/05/04/2560064.htm
    Fitness First 'emotionally blackmailing' members
Consumer group Choice says the gym chain Fitness First still has unfair membership conditions, despite a change in its rules last year.

  • I did a pack similar to this a while ago. Strangely enough I seem to be the only person ever to have had an exceptionally pleasant experience terminating a short FF membership. I was at the very edge of the cooling off period too. After all the horror stories I've heard, the guy who dealt with my cancellation turned out to be awesome and one of the best managers I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Clearly I got lucky, but I'll admit these short term memberships can be risky to take up.

  • I had a corporate membership in which my workplace paid for. I must say their facilities had enough equipment to satisfy my needs.

For those who go ahead, I suggest you stop the PT after the 3 sessions as it becomes very costly, $40 for 30 minutes IIRC

  • it's a shame that FF has such a bad reputation.
There is no reason that FF can be reputable good gym without dodgy / aggressive contract policy because many of their gyms have good equipments. I certainly enjoyed my membership, which I quit a while ago after my contract expired. The magager was cool to cancel my membership. Also they should review their pricing structure (regular membership fee, one off visitor fee etc), which are far less competitive, reasonable and justifiable.

Maybe some new future competitors in this market will force FF to change their policy in the future. Hopefully they voluntarily improve their service.

After I had a bad experience with a Perth CBD Gym (not Fitness First), I ruled out chain gyms for life. Now I'm going to a council gym, pay cheap rates, helpful staff, couldn't be happier.
