Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 1 [Blu-Ray] [Region Free] $34 Delivered from Amazon UK

110

I just bought the first 5 seasons of Star Trek TNG blu-rays!

Season 1 just dropped to the cheapest it has ever been (GBP 15 excluding VAT).

Seasons 2, 3, 4 and 5 are all about GBP 15 also.

The whole series has been completely digitally re-mastered to full HD 1080p and 7.1 DTS sound.

From Wikipedia:

"… in celebration of the series' twenty-fifth anniversary, that Star Trek: The Next Generation would be completely re-mastered in 1080p high definition from original 35 mm film negatives (consisting of almost 25,000 reels of original film stock). Effects would be recomposed from their large-format negatives specifically for each episode, accompanied by 7.1 DTS Master Audio."

  • Although these are on blu ray format. Whats the resolution? Wont these still be VHS quality and hence make no difference if watching on blu ray, DVD or VHS even?

I threw out the whole VHS collection - 90 tapes about 8 or so years ago!!
Also all the DS9 and Voyager tapes (270 odd tapes in all!!)

    • Bluray also means you won't need 90 vhs tapes cluttering the lounge. Just a few discs

The whole series has been completely digitally re-mastered to full HD 1080p widescreen and 7.1 DTS sound.

      Original post updated.

These are 'remastered' meaning that they've all been lovingly restored and feature new special effects and dont look dated like the vhs/dvd releases.. the purists will jump up and down, no doubt but the episodes look amazing..

Wonder what a collector would pay for those now…

  • Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 1-5 $35.99 each at JB if your willing to wait for the next 20% of sale and buy local. Or as hollykryten mentioned below also get 20% of $100 max spend when you sign up for a free 1 month trial of JB Now Music.

I've watched these on blu-ray. The remastered quality is excellent and has been lovingly restored. Well worth getting. Unlike the original Star Wars Trilogy where many purists said they ruined the new remasters with all the new special effects and changes they made to the films. And not including the original cuts of the first three films.

I remember when this series was first released on DVD and the price was around $220 each season box set.

You can already get it for around this price off the shelf from an Australian retailer. How?. JB Hi-Fi has The Next Generation Season 1 blu-ray for $44.99 https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-shows/movies-tv-shows-on…

But if you sign up to the JB Now Music 1 month free trial you get 20% off blu-ray which knocks $9 off the price of the season 1 blu-ray set which brings it down to $36. Only $2 difference for aussie stock straight off the shelf. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/music/jb-now-free-trial/

Same goes for seasons 2, 3, 4 and 5 all will be the same $36 after 20% off.

Hey thanks for the heads up! Didn't realise JB prices had come down. I have cancelled my Amazon order, and will join Music Now and apply the 20% discount!

      • You should be able to do the JB 20% discount in store too. I'd say you probably get a voucher to print out to take in store.

        • I've just joined Music Now, but there are options only to purchase music, not movies.

Not sure how to get 20% discount on blu-rays!

        • @ranagade:

There will be a 20% off voucher emailed to you after the free trial has been activated. And it can be used in store for 1 week after you receive it. Unfortunately there seems to be a $100 max spend. Still that's enough for two seasons worth.

*20% off CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays & Games voucher will be sent via email once your JB Hi-Fi NOW Music 1 month free trial has been activated. If you have previously registered for a free trial with JB Hi-Fi NOW Music you will not be eligible for the 20% off CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays & Games voucher. Voucher can be used instore only for 1 week after dispatch, maximum $100 spend.

Any way you could order for example seasons 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 etc in the one transaction for 20% off. The discount code is a one use only.

Then again JB does the standard 20% off blu-ray every now and then with no restrictions. There's always one around christmas.

  • Do these box sets all share the same packaging? Some of them seem to have the Blu-Ray blue band at the top, and others don't. Agonising as to whether to buy now, or wait for the 7-series box set, which will come out exactly 2 days after I order the 7 individual sets.

I've been buying the Blu Ray sets during the 20% off sales at JB…good prices to be had.

Also here is a good comparison clip showing the remastering of TNG:

  • Most of the seasons are not available in store, so delivery is $1 more for each set.

I've decided to skip the JB membership and waiting for 20% discount, and reorder from Amazon UK.

Thanks for all the suggestions though.
