Pioneer MVH-X165UI Headunit $49.50 at JB-HIFI (RRP $129) Pickup or +Shipping

190

Found this while looking for a headunit for my car. The next closest price is $89.95 on staticice

If you've got the $10 credit from SCA membership you could get it for $37 like I did - This is due to price beat by 5% and store credit of $10.

Fantastic price for a USB ready headunit with Aux-in from a reputed manufacturer!

Happy buying :)

      • +1

this one includes a remote as well

        • ahh everything i looked at never mentioned anything about this deal having a remote so i assumed it didnt but downloading the manual for it is the only place online i can see mention of it having a remote.

          good stuff

        • +1

@nosdan: Yea Kind of strange. TBH I didnt expect a remote for the price I got it for, but turned out to be a pleasant surprise when I opened the box

so anyone else trying this make sure they only charge you $47 (minus your $10 member thingo from the other day, which is still open by the way in case you need another $10)

          thanks OP

  • Can one connect their phone via bluetooth to make and receive calls on this unit?

    • +1

      no BT

    • no it doesnt support bluetooth. Try this

  • Watch out if you have an android phone - they claim support, but it's been broken since 2.2 or 2.3. Also, the pioneer harness that you can purchase at repco for easy connections does not fit this unit, the pin layout is reversed, so be prepared to do some soldering

    • it includes a harness in box. all you need is a female for your car's harness to connect to the one included in the box

      • +1

I know, I bought + installed this a few months ago.. You need to solder or crimp it - what I'm referring to is the pioneer -> ISO harness solderless adapter that you can use with an ISO -> car, it does not work with this unit

        • sorry i misread your first comment. Didn't realise you were talking about the ready-made thingys

        • Isn't the ISO harness included with the unit?

        • @doperst: It does have a harness included that slots into the back of this unit.

You will however need a female connector to match your car's harness to join to this one (that's included in the box)

  • Can anyone please confirm if the unit has FM radio

  • I know it says it can play CDs but where do they go? :S

    • +1

they go on a usb stick then into the usb hole.

these are mechless which means no cd mech

      • +1

I don't get it. So it can't play physical CDs?

        • +1

          no, no you cant

  • If you are going to all the trouble of replacing the head unit, consider spending a bit more for bluetooth -for hands-free calls, navigation, and music from your phone. e.g. as linked above.
    Well worth it.

    • Considering it, but it's twice the price. Price match at SCA would bring down to $85 after $10 new member credit.

Just remembered I have a free $30 gift card with JB from another OB deal, bringing this down to $19.50 or $50 more for BT :-)

    • depends on what you're after. I was after a simple head unit that accepts USBs and this did the trick quite nicely

    • +1

Agree, but I need it for my 2nd car (14 yo) that I'm using to limp me around for a couple of more years. Hardly use it for long trips, planning to use the BT headset (I already have).

      • I'm in similar situation - inherited older but in near pc car with a cassette player! Not worth spending much money, rarely driven (overseas a lot), don't expect too many calls to warrant BT for calls, just a better set up than an ancient but almost unused radio cassette!

Have a BT stereo headset with audio/mic socket, so can feed BT audio from phone/tablet into this unit via aux & wire up a microphone if needed.

        • Just took out the old head unit. Now to learn about harnesses!

On second thoughts, I'll just take the connector off the back of the old head unit, cut the new harness cables, and solder those onto the old connector. Much quicker than the return trip to Repco or SCA!

        • @brucefromaustralia:

Just ordered some bullet crimp connectors from Aliexpress for $4.

          http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?SearchText=bullet+butt+c…

Think, they'll come in handy when need to take the head unit back out.

        • @quasims:
I've got a stack of similar crimp connectors, just forget they're there. But soldering new harness on to scrounged connector from back of failed head unit is easy for me. Then it all snaps together.

I've got everything except this head unit - thought it was on sale for a while yet, but now twice the price :-(

  • Where do you see that they havev a 5% off price match at SCA? I can't seem to find it anywhere!

    • I didn't get it. They said for items less than $50 it's 50c not 5%. But I didn't bother with it.

  • Agh! Price has gone up $50! Now $99. Selling for $129 @SCA before price match.

Had in cart to buy last night, but nearest JB store with stock was quite a distance, so decided to price match at SCA today.

OP had posted expiry in another week, so I thought I had plenty of time to check if I could do the job before buying. The rare time I waited before buying. Now I have removed old head unit, and only have a gaping hole in the dash :-(
    Reported expired.

    • Until another great deal on a head unit pops up, have modified a Bluetooth mini boombox. Took speaker cables from inside unit to connector block at back, then to old connector to front speakers. Controlled from phone or tablet. Works surprisingly well :-)
