  • I think it's cheaper to catch a flight from Melbourne and go to the Adelaide Show than it is to pay to get into the Royal Melbourne show !!!

    • What does it cost to get into the melb show?

        Your dignity.

        • As an ex Victorian, I prefer the RMS to Royal Adelaide Show, Perth Royal Show and even the Royal Easter Show (Sydney). Catching the train as always a lot of fun. Then again, maybe I have rose coloured glasses.. it was a few years ago (or more).

          If you want to save a bit of money, go to the Whittlesea Show. November 1 & 2.

          @DeWalt:
          This is in response to a private message I received. I thought others might be interested…

          It's most probably worth a public post on this topic.

          Most (if not all) of these shows started out as agricultural shows, food products from the farmers. Over time, the bigger shows (Melbourne Show, Easter Show, etc.) have focussed more on commercialisation and less on agriculture - although the agriculture is still there.

          Shows like the Whittlesea show (and to a lesser extent, the Gawler show in South Australia) are a little more agriculturally influenced. They have a small town feel to them. You sill have the rides, showbags and hot dogs - but it's more like a country fair with a little less polish - I personally think there's more of a fun atmosphere at the smaller shows.

          If you want your kids to experience a little more of the country and a little less of showbags, you'll most probably find a better experience in the smaller fairs. But expect a little more dust and more flies.

          If you've never experienced the smaller fairs, i'd definitely recommend going at least once.

          FYI - I'm not from the country and I'm not affiliated with any of these organisations.
