50% off BBQs in BBQ Category on eBay (Sunday - 31/8)

4520
CSIZZLE50

Looks like anything listed as a 'BBQ' under the BBQ category will be entitled to a 50% off discount this sunday! (Max $250 discount)

"The offer entitles you to a 50% discount off the total purchase price (excluding postage) of BBQs in the BBQs category on www.ebay.com.au purchased during the Offer Period."

Hopefully we see some other stuff listed in the category too (assuming that works).

WARNING:
eBay have just added this line to their T's and C's:

eBay reserves the right to disallow or reverse a discount in circumstances where it believes a sale or purchase of any BBQ or other item as part of this sale has not been made in good faith. This includes any collusive conduct by buyers or sellers or any other conduct which eBay considers to be unfair or untoward.

(Thanks JDF)
Be wary of buying items that aren't BBQ's in the category with the discount!

Regardless, anyone after a BBQ should check out eBay this sunday!

  • 1 transaction only (per account)
  • Multiple items per transaction allowed
  • $250 max discount ($500 spend)
  • Must pay with PayPal
  • Must purchase during the offer period (Sunday)

Mod Warning: Please do not post your own eBay listings in this thread. Such comments will be unpublished, the commenter will be banned from participating in the thread and account penalties may apply. Use the classifieds instead for personal items.

How funny would it be for you to be picked up by Paypal and back charged for the additional times you used the code. They are well within their rights to do so.

  • I bought a smoke generator from Urban Griller, a well known BBQ seller, but when I look in my eBay history the item is now delisted with the following message:

We had to remove this listing from the site and you're not required to complete the transaction. If you've already sent payment, the sale should process as normal and you don't have anything to worry about. If you have any questions about delivery, please check tracking or contact your seller. If you run into any trouble along the way eBay is here to help. Please visit the Resolution Centre to help resolve any problems you may encounter.

I've never seen this happen before. I've paid already of course, and it doesn't look like there is a problem with their seller account, should I be worried?

    • you don't have anything to worry about

      Read the message again

      • I got a similar thing about a DVD i purchased, it never arrived and asked for a refund.
        So doesn't look good!

        • I emailed the seller and got the following back:

Ebay just figured out it's not technically a BBQ and killed the listing.
They can't stop a sale that has happened though!

So I should be OK :)

        • Arrived, happy!

  • I just received email from "thehardwarevillage" asking for another $80.00 for the freight due to "size & weight".
I am not very happy at all & don't know what to do. There is no much saving if I have to pay "$125" for the freight alone.

    • +2

      That's blackmail…

      • I know. :(

This is the ebay link I bought the weber BBQ from:

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/140681807385?ssPageName=STRK:MEWN…

Anyone else received email from him?

        • +2

wow thats epicly dodgy. surely that is against ebay rules?

if its not much of a saving maybe its worth playing the bluff and saying you have already entered into a contract etc and tell them there is no way in hell your paying more now

        • +1

did you actually read the add before purchasing the bbq, I'm guessing you live out side of the designated $45 area that was included in shipping, if not I would be lodging a compliant with ebay

        • +1

Depends on where you live I suppose, it does say it only delivers to Metro Brisbane/Sydney etc for that rate. A bit dodgy since they don't specify the borders. If you think you live in these areas I would argue, otherwise I'm sure you can cancel the transaction and get a refund. Not sure if it is against rules to have a shipping cost and then a note elsewhere saying it will be a higher (unspecified) cost for other areas, but I doubt ebay will care all that much. Easier to just cancel purchase, but you can always try and argue if you want (and involve ebay if this turns out to be against their rules).

        • +2

I'll probably get a similar email from him as well as I ordered a Weber Cart and only noticed about the possible additional shipping charges outside of those areas he's listed after receiving the purchase confirmation.

If it's unreasonable, I will get him to refund it. He shouldn't be putting a shipping price on the listing if that is not the price to send the item. Most people will rely on the shipping cost section on eBay when looking up for the cost to sent the items.

    • +2

I would say it's really doggy and they tried to rip off people in the beginning. if the shipping fare varies, they should highlight the sentence in the description or provide a calculator or something. They might not be able to get that many orders, so they don't care if anyone cancel the order because of it, and there will be always someone pays for the extra.

    • +1

      I too received this email.
This is the second dicey email I received from them — the first was when they said that they wouldn't honor the 50% discount code (which they later renegged on).

If they had have known they were going to pull this stunt and charge $100+ for postage I would have bought it from another seller (The Good Guys, BCF etc). I'd consider cancelling this transaction, but the coupon code is expired now…

      • +1

Their first email I think was purely them thinking they had to foot the 50% so an honest mistake.
Would have been funny to see their initial reaction.

Upping the postage for those in the included delivery areas is certainly unfair though.

    • +1

I nearly purchased from them as they were the cheapest, glad I went for the reputable BCF as it was delivered today! :)

  • +4

His explanation is due to "weight & size" & nothing to do with the metro area.
I consider myself living at the metro area - 20 km from the city center Adelaide.
Anyway, I told him he can send the item to my work address which is just 3~4 km away from city center.

    • -3

I'm suprised he said it has nothing to the not being in the "metro area" considering your in Adelaide and his description reads "$45.00 to most Sydney Metro suburbs. Wollongong ? Sydney - Newcastle
? Please contact seller for competitive rates to other locations"

      • U need to read further down about the "shipping" mate

        Shipping

POSTAGE COSTS MAY VARY DEPENDING ON YOUR LOCATION. Unless stated otherwise in the item description,
The Hardware Village ships to NSW, Victoria, Metro Brisbane, Metro Adelaide and Metro Hobart.
The price for shipping in the ad relates to these shipping destinations only.

        • didn't bother reading that as I usually just buy on what is written in the description, if it was me I would quote back to them there own shipping terms and see what they say,,, but ebay being ebay I wouldnt hold your breath for any form of recourse

  • Staggered the my babyq was delivered a few minutes ago from ttg, was thinking atleast a week or so, amazing

  • +2

wishing I paid the extra $20 to get my Q305 from TGG now..
    got mine through thehardwarevillage..

its been posted today and I'm not familiar with the courier company, Transdirect.
    Anyone dealt with them before?

Says that a redelivery fee will apply if no one is available to accept on first attempt..
I wish everyone just used parcel post :P

    • +1

Did u receive an email asking for an additional $80 for the freight?

I went with the "thehardwarevillage" purely based on the over 98% positive feedback from the past over 3600 transactions. :(

      • +1

no email asking for additional $80..
i live in Sydney Metro, so that may be the reason why..

    • +1

      Chuck a sickie tomorrow.

    • +1

Yeah same. It was pure greed on my behalf to go with a no-name seller in order to save $20 (even though they had respectable feedback)

EDIT: And I didn't even bother to go through the cashback site — with that 2% discount, the total difference would have only been $6…argh

      • I live in Gippsland and so far have not received any e-mail regarding any additional postage cost from The hardwarevillage

        • Has anyone received their Weber BBQ from the hardwarevillage? I heard that they have over 150 orders last sunday.

        • +1

          @trump3:

Customer service told me they will be sending mine tomorrow and should arrive in Melbourne early next week.

        • @trump3:

          How does that happen?
Site said they only had 9 in stock..

My order status with transdirect still says connote received..

        • @ssjmark:

That's what they said when I asked why my order has not been shipped yet. They said they have that much orders to process.

        • @trump3: I haven't heard from them as well for the trolley/cart and have not received a message asking for more postage given I am in WA. TGG has been good. Received the BBQ today after being contacted on Tuesday to confirm postal address.

        • @j1568:

Just got an email stating that my Weber Q1000 has been shipped. Hope to receive it by tomorrow since I am in Sydney Metro area.

        • @trump3:

          from transdirect or thehardwarevillage?

I got an email from Transdirect on Tueday saying a consignment has been booked with them..
          still nadda on my end

        • @ssjmark:

          From hardwarevillage

        • Well I still have not received any e-mail regarding shipping

        • @gillmaverick: neither have I. But I send them a message and the reply I got was on its way. So no idea whether they have sent it out or not. Will wait till end next week and if I haven't received it will follow up with them.

        • @j1568:Thanks Mate , I will wait until next week too and then will contact them if not received..It is a shame as it would have been amazing to cook some steaks on the Weber this footy finals weekend.

        • @gillmaverick:

my order from hardwarevillage has been shipped last Friday, should arrive in Melbourne by Tuesday

        • @abracadabra:

So mine was sent last Thursday and now I've just called Toll, who are the couriers for the item, and the BBQ has been lost. They have no idea where it is and are looking for it..

Wife had a half day on Friday to accept it.. I took a half day today.. I really hate these courier companies.. their depots are also only open on weekdays till 5.. utterly pointless..

        • @ssjmark:

not sure why you are facing those issues, but my package arrive today. It is really heavy ~40kg and apparently it costed Mitre 10 $80 to ship it, only paid $45 for shipping.

        • @abracadabra:

Same mine arrived today to Melbourne via mitre10. The postage cost was the same.

          Also it's the Q3100 model

  • +1

Anyone heard from our mate Tom. One generic email and then nothing else has me a little edgy

    • +1

He/She has been a busy little bee. Thousands of emails and 500 orders to get through, if each order averages 10mins to process (check payment received, contact buyer, confirm shipping address, order dropshipping and double check everything to not make a mistake) that's 5000mins or 10 x 8 hour days. Now assume he/she has a day job - where on earth will they find the time to reply to everyone? If I ordered from Tom I wouldn't be surprised to receive zero contact for the next 2 weeks.

      • +3

Maybe someone can contact him and offer admin support for a slice of the pie.

        • has anyone else had an email from ebay, stating that there are 3 options for dealing with the BBQs tom was offering? if you reply yes, it will act on your behalf to deal with appliance online. if you reply no, then the transaction will go as per normal. if you reply cancel, then the transaction will be cancelled and refunded.

seems strange, as no message is visible in my ebay messages… not sure what to do.

        • @heathwithnoteeth:

I got that too! Seemed a bit dodgy but if you want to say yes just don't send them your details over the email, if it is truly ebay they should have all your checkout details. I'm just ignorin it.

I guess it depends how quickly you'd like your BBQ

        • @Hipmumma: EBay asked you how you want to move forward on the order and your ignoring the email? Lol. You'll be waiting a while for your BBQ then

  • Just got my 305 from bcf delivered. Seriously thinking about taking it back and getting the specialist model else were I really want the thermometer. Any one think its worth it ?

    • +1

You can buy a regular style oven thermometer for a few dollars on eBay. May not look as good but would do the job.

    • +1

yes because watching the thermostat is so much more fun, it's up there with glass lids washing machines.

    • +1

If you don't need the extra height then you may be better off getting a wireless Maverick thermometer from the states. Much more accurate and allows you to monitor BBQ and meat temps together if you're doing a roast or slow cook.

      • Any good ones you can show a link for at a good price?

        Thanks.

        • +1

A good price is very subjective around here. I've got an ET-732 (that I'm using to keep an eye on a pork neck smoking overnight tonight) that I picked up on Amazon about 12 months back for around $65. Can set an alarm for min and max bbq temps and max meat temp which means I can relax and get a decent sleep…worth the price just for that as far as I'm concerned.

ET-733 is the new model and will probably set you back closer to $100. Not in the market for a new one just yet so don't have any links.

You can easily test any portable thermometer in boiling and iced water…not so easy when it's built in to a hood.

        • @Roscoe99:

I appreciate your reply, will see how I go without one but keep it in mind.

        • +1

          @treeman:
I was actually looking at the Mavericks ET 732/733 too, but the cheapest option locally is 120Aud and amazon is over 100 after shipping of around 35-40.

Ended up getting a iGrill 2 for ~110USD shipped, only 10usd more than what it actually costs over in the states. Check it out, it looks pretty cool and quite a few bbq forums say it's decent.

          http://www.amazon.com/iDevices-IGR0002-iGrill2/dp/B00K2YDRBS

only issue is they've done a recall on the probes at the moment but that should be fixed soon enough.

  • +2

I purchased a Q200 from ebay, from a seemingly unidentified seller (didn't appear to be a store or anything) for $490. Overpriced, but had little choice on the day and I was drifting in and out of mobile coverage at the time. After postage and ebay discount, $280. Not a huge bargain, but cheap nonetheless.

Surprised to get my package today, and the delivery note is from Masters Ballarat, and the unit price mentioned as $359.

    • +4

Tom is running off to Masters as we speak.

      • +1

        LOL…

    • tom should go to who ever gives him the best discount

  • I'm looking at buying a cover for my new Weber Family Q 305

Can anyone tell me what is the difference between these two:

    http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Weber-Premium-BB…

    $54.95 BCF

    and

    http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/products/Weber-Premium-BB…

    $59.95 BCF

    Both have same description.

If anyone has any cheaper ideas for a weber cover that would be appreciated too!

    Thanks!

    • +1

As yours is for the Family Q you should be looking at the $59.95 one as the other one is for Weber Q which is the Q200/Q2000 model.

      • Okay thanks! :)

  • Got my baby q today. Can anyone recommend any bargains on getting gas+cylinder? I think maybe bunnings have them for about $30.
Also will a 4L cylinder be big enough for occasional use?

    • +1

Smaller cylinder's aren't as economical to fill but you probably won't notice if you're only using it occasionally. Don't have a Baby Q so can't recommend a size but whatever you go for, get 2. If you don't do it now you'll end up buying a spare the first time you run out of gas half way through a bbq with your food half cooked.

    • +1

I paid $50+ today for a new (not swapover) LPG cylinder from Bunnings.

    • +2

      i have a baby Q
i am using the big gas tank and it cost about $30-40 to refill. i have only refilled once. it last me about 7 months. i use it atlas 1-2 times a week. so its pretty economical

      • it cost about $30-40 to refill

Fyi, bunnings refill the big one (8.5kg) for $22

        • Most metro servos are about $18 for a 9kg bottle

        • Thanks for clarifying. i couldn't remember exactly how much. but i remember it wasn't that expensive.

  • I got a Weber Q Family 3000 was meant to be a 305au but box came as 3000 did anyone work out the difference between 3000 to 3100 to 3200? Also whether there really is a weber 3000 in australia and whether the box is wrong?

    Thanks.

    • I received a 305, most likely they ran out and had to start sending the newer model to fulfill orders. Not sure if there's much difference, but it's probably a positive thing to have gotten the newer model.

      • Yeah that's what I thought, just curious!

        • I got a Q1000 instead of a Q100 from TGG. Its great, I suppose :)

  • Whats the cheapest way to buy weber accessories? Amazon won;t ship weber items to Australia. :(

    • Would be interested too!
If you want a cover use your everyday reward card and buy a myer $50 voucher thus deducting $10 off your next shop which reduces the price of the cover by $10.

      • +1

I just got the accessories from a local TGG for my Q1000.
        Brush - $18
        Cover - $21
Trivet - $34 - I got the big trivet instead, also fits the Baby Q.

  • Very unscrupulous but would it be possible to return said half price BBQ to bcf for a full refund as shown on the receipt??

    Hmmm…

    • Anything is possible I suppose! But not ethical. If they checked the date of receipt it would be pretty obvious what you have done if they think about it at all.

Anyone got BCF to price match?

      • +1

absolutely not ethical! im not doing is im happy with my weber - more a case of thinking out loud.

    • The invoice shows the full price, so it would be in the realms of possibility.

    • In the first place you need to check bcf return policy and it doesn't appear they accept change of mind returns.

      • Most companies do though…a company like that you would imagine should accept.

        • Not necessary. If it's like bunnings, myer, then those type do. But like BCF, if you read their refund or return policy they state the conditions and change of mind if not one of them. This will then come down on the store manager discretion. I believe even a store like Rebel Sports don't allow change of mind, and it's up to the store manager to accept the refund.

  • Is it ethical that they jacked up the prices and shipping. Technically they received the amount shown on the receipt so you should be entitled to the amount on the receipt for the refund.

    • What they should do is you go back with your BCF card and deduct $50 off the price!

  • Got my Weber delivered today by Appliance Online. Didn't go through Tom though …

  • Just looking for a non branded weber trivet.
Anyone know if this would work?
    http://www.ikea.com/aa/en/catalog/products/40176455/

It is stainless stell has plastic feet but assuming I can take off the feet?

    Any info would be great!

    • +1

Looks more like a pot cooler.
I wouldn't heat anything to a high temperature in an oven or weber unless is for food use unless it is specifically made for that purpose. That means not releasing anything nasty up to 300c.
Heavy metals, plastics, paints all = Bad JuJu if they get in your food.

      • Confused…you need to use the trivet to cook a hot chicken, lamb roast etc. Just want something that doesn't cost $35…

        • Sure, anything trivet, poultry stand, baking tray etc that is made for a domestic oven should be fine. I would go with a known Aust/US/UK brand just to be sure it is food safe.

        • @King Tightarse:

          Thanks.

Know one that would be suitable?

  • what's the best way to clean the Weber Q Family series? Seen others with really black or brown stain on it. Weber recommended to use the large 3 Sided Grill Brush and water to clean the grill after cooking while it is hot. And use the Weber Q Cleaner to remove the black and brown stain. Any recommendations?

    • Would like to know as well!

    • Yeah, just do what Weber recommends. The best brush is from Woolworths, the one with curved shape, long handle and sponge on the other side. It doesn't cost a fortune and lasts long. From time to time you will need to clean insides, I do it with paper towels. Don't need to clean it all, just remove most of buildup.

    • +1

Also, the best drip tray is from under some pieces of meat from Woolworths, for examle pork scotch fillet. They thick enough and fit well.

  • Been more than a week now and still haven't received my Baby Q from TGG. Received a phone call this morning from my local TGG store saying that they're going to be sending it at some time this week. $75 postage fee and more than a week wait? Pretty poor if you ask me! Like King Tightarse I'm considering giving negative feedback for lack of communication and very slow postage considering the amount paid!

  • My Weber Q1000 from TheHardwareVillage arrived today. It was delivered through Courier Please.

Pretty keen to try it out when the weather actually clears up!
