  • so this attaches to a 9kg gss cylinder ?

    can anyone comment on quality

    • Bromic are a long established, reputable brand.
I don't believe this will attach to a 9kg cylinder without an adapter. The cylinders usually have POL fittings, this comes with 3/8ths.

      • i thought that the regulator would just fit on the LGP cylinder?

same brand by the looks but different seller but this one seems to come with the normal POL type (9kg bottle) regulator, i assume the 3/8th is the size of the connector from the hose to the burner not the bottle/reg fitting.

so in short, yes i believe this will hook up to your normal 9kg bottle..

a good alternative is an induction cooktop.

as a fan of gas for years i have been using induction for about a year now and for 90% of things its far better than gas. about the only thing i still use gas for is woks

      • or get something like this for removing the gas cooking completely.
        http://www.appliancesonlineblog.com.au/cooking/induction-coo…

        • how is energy consumption for the induction compared to electric and gas cooktops?

          Isnt gas the cheapest option?

        • compared to any other electric its by far better. i generally only use it on full when i first start cooking then its cranked down to under 1000W, usually 600-800w for the actual cooking (steaks etc) also because it heats only the pan the temp control is better than gas and it will boil a pot of water faster than gas (in my experience)

as for the cost compared to gas, as a reasonably informed guess (ive not actually done any real comparisons) … if you only have a gas cook top then its much cheaper because you dont need your connection charge etc for the gas, if the rest of your house is gas anyway (which would be the case for most i would think) then theres probably not a lot to be saved either way id imagine tho the flat glass induction cookers are much easier to clean but imho if your already on gas id probably stick with gas….

good way to try it out i guess would be to get one of the little single burner induction thingos from fleebay etc,
also of note is that you need to have induction friendly pans, if a magnet dosnt stick to the base of your pot/pan then it will not work on an induction cooker

          @easternculture:

If you have a solar system installed, you would want to get rid of all the gas appliances i.e. Heaters, cooktops to take the full advantage of solar electricity.

        • @fchis: ahh yea didnt think of that. good point

  • The thing says that this requires professional installation… does that mean I can't just plug it in to a gas bottle myself?

What adaptors would this need to come from a standard 9kg BBQ gas canister?

Also would it be better than the standard side burner on most bbq's? I've got a cheapy one from bunnings.

that is just there in case you are to stupid to connect it to your gas bottle and blow yourself up etc you cant come back at the company and try and sue them for your stupidity because tehy told you to get a "professional" to hook it up to your bottle and you didnt follow there instructions

seems this comes with a normal reg that hooks to a normal BBQ gas bottle

unless your bunnings one is a hunk of crap, theres probably going to be little difference

You'd need an adaptor to connect to a standard bbq gas bottle. The mini camping ones (3.5kg?) are already small enough for the portable stoves.

Don't need the adapter. The hose can be connected to the gas bottle. I asked them and they said it can be connected to the gas bottle. Hose and regulator are included.

      • You'd need an adaptor

as i have already said above… the 3/8 connector would be the connection between the hose and the burner, the regulator is a normal "9kg type" POL so will screw directly into your normal BBQ bottles (4.5kg/9kg/45kg and probably other sizes as well)

  • Thanks got one!
I was actually about to buy one, luckily, this got posted. Thanks op!

    • That's good for you. I bought one as well. Still waiting for shipping
