Have a look at ebay negs before you buy. Click on the number (21) in red, especially the ones that say the watch is counterfeit.

to be fair they have 84090 positive

also none of the TAG formula 1 watches are worth buying

      • +1

The formula 1 series are definitely an ugly looking series of watches in my opinion.
That said I love Tag, and I'll have my Carrera calibre 16 for the rest of my life.

        • yep caliber, carreras series and monacos are legit

formulas ones are just common quartz movts in a ugly case

Eh.. You always get a few crazy / angry people with a big enough sample. I doubt they'd fool 99.9% (Most complaints being about returns etc) of people buying fancy watches, and Ebay wouldn't be too keen on selling fakes through their own deals page.

I don't think TH are great value anyway.

      • also that buyer says they sent a counterfeit $250 movado

lol who counterfeits a $250 pile of shit movado?

all it says is random person went to a 'store' and they said it was counterfeit

        thats not exactly compelling 'evidence'

the fact joma have been there since 2001 (!) says a lot more

still, you'd be nuts to buy anything off them given our customs

Jomashop are one of the most reputable grey market sellers online.

Never heard a substantiated claim that their watches are counterfeit.

  • Tax on the luxury watches would make it not worth buying plus there is no manufacturer warranty

    • beat me to the punch by 3 minutes

I would just point out, as almost all the watches (apart from the formula 1 ones) are over $1,000, you will get hit with customs duty getting it into Australia. Just something else to factor in.

  • Anyone able to vouch for Jomashop?

Bought from them before, no issues. Bought it through the ebay store as it ended up cheaper than through their website.

    • Purchased from their online store about a month ago. Well packed and shipped in a reasonable time, no complaints there. The retail packaging that the watch arrived in had been damaged but the contents were fine, original, genuine and in good condition. Unlike the Sydney watch seller that advertises on ozbargain regularly, Jomashop don't send spam. They're fine, I'd certainly buy from them again.

  • Is it just GST?

    • 5% duty and 10% gst.
Overall still cheaper compare to local store

  • Mrs Gasolini works for a jewelry chain that sells them locally and she reckons they're very cheap, notwithstanding the question around whether or not they are the genuine article..the no factory warranty does make it sound suss.. That aside, she says they look 'very' real.

The no factory warranty just means they are grey market watches. Authorised dealers usually need to sell a certain amount of stock during a period to maintain their licence for a particular brand. When their sales are short or they need to clear out excess stock they will often offload watches to grey market dealers such as jomashop at a fraction of their price just so they can maintain their AD licence.

The watches are still 100% authentic, but you no longer get an official manufacturers warranty. Your warranty will be provided by the greymarket dealer (e.g. jomashop).

My rule of thumb for buying greymarket watches is only buy if the price of the watch is around half of what its local price or price from an AD would be. It's way too much of a hassle and time consuming to actually deal with warranty repairs from overseas greymarket dealers so you are better off getting the watch repaired locally. Factor in the potential cost of repairs so that even if there is something wrong with the watch you will still come out ahead.

That being said, I have bought several watches from reputable greymarket dealers (creationwatches and jomashop) and never had any problems.

Could not have said it better myself Crys. Most Swiss watches in Australia are marked up by around 40-45% on the AD's cost price. There are lots of reputable grey market dealers as you've said but if I was to buy another Swiss watch I'd probably try my luck with negotiating with a local AD for 30-35% off RRP first. Having said this, I bought a blue Omega Speedmaster Day-Date (~AU$2750) and a TAG Calibre 16 Day Date Automatic Chronograph (~AU$2700) in late 2011 from a US grey dealer while I was over there and I was lucky enough to be given the proper stamped AD warranty cards after requesting them.

  • I bought last year, a "MARVIN' Sebastian Loeb edition watch (the first edition), with a Valjoux 7750 movement.I read a few reviews from the so called experts and watch aficionados (unanimously praised for design and value). Purchased directly from them, received within a few days, excellent watch. They are a recently 'revived' brand, very popular in the 50s I believe with the Hollywood crowd. Very popular facebook page- I love the Marvin at… photos (people taking photos of their wristwatch in places around the world- a watch SELFIE). Anyway, I've had Carrera's before, but I am really 'over' TAG. I nearly bought a Baume and Mercier watch, 40% off at a local duty free watch store in Footscray of all places. But was put off by the male sales assistant. Once he knew I was travelling os, he put up the price I had been given and said I'll be getting it cheaper as I'd be able to claim TRS anyway. I didn't bother further and walked out, ended up with my MARVIN.
