I had installed bitdefender during the previous deal but uninstalled it later as its too restrictive. I found that a file kept disappearing when i unzipped it from archive.I deduced of course that Bitdefender thought the file was dodgy. Fair enough but there was no popup or notification before it made the file disappear. And when i wanted to disable it for a few minutes i couldn't find the option and had to look up its help files!!!. After i carried out the correct procedure to disable the on access scan it still refused to let me access the file.I uninstalled Bitdefender and went back to my previous Antivirus.

Weird..I find bitdefender is very non-intrusive, sometimes I don't even know its there. And definitely no file mysteriously disappearing either.

      • Until it thinks a file is infected when it's not.
Or it blocks network printing packets when it is explicitely configured not to.

Then good luck, hope you are a bit cluey with computers.

    • I have installed in last 1 month (from the 9 months free deal) and I have the same issue.

I just read the logs (the big circle on the right) and show what happen.

with a few online search, i able to extract the file to some other location and copy back.

IN short, Bitdefender can be annoying but I believe it is doing what is supposed to do …

This is a behaviour I've also seen on Trend, Eset NOD32, Kaspersky and Avira. What their definitions consider as not worth notifying the user over, but worth quarantining, varies wildly from AV to AV.

Particularly common with false-positives over, ahem, keygens and cracks (though who downloads those, I have no idea. Certainly not esteemed gentlemen like myself).

It is annoying for sure, but with enough experience, you can pretty quickly find the AV to be the culprit.

Luckily with NOD32 or Trend it's just a matter of turning off real-time file scanning with 3 clicks and then turning it back on.

Other AVs can be as cumbersome to disable as the firing procedure for a nuclear silo's ICBM.

  • Thanks

  • Is there any anti-virus that doesn't claim it is the greatest thing since sliced bread ?

The down side of these sort of deals is that what do you do after the free period expires ?

How much is it after the expiry ?

(BTW writing this on my Linux Mint PC)
