Gotta love that someone has posted this as a deal while 2 others have started threads complaining about it in the forums.

  • -3

    Sweet as EC!

  • +2

Got any email from them stating that social media site traffic will no longer be free as of September…

    • +6

social media site traffic will no longer be free

With 5GB jv, who cares right?

      • +14

        who cares right?

have you not noticed how much I post ???

have you not noticed how much I post ???

          Me? NO!

        • Who are you guys, I've never seen you post on here ever.. ;)

      • Also switching to per MB billing if the forum threads are correct.

    • +1

Can't believe JV isn't negging it.

Previous price is $40, new price is $45

They are taking away other benefits as well.

Also JV you aren't saying this belongs in the forums.

Will the real JV please stand up?

      • +1

Can't believe JV isn't negging it.

        I'm on prepaid with Amaysim…

It is just their new normal price so probably should just go in the forums… It is more of an announcement rather than a bargain… (even though it's not even a bargain anyway…)

        Also, I don't 'usually' neg deals…

        • but you negging me and mine though ;)

  • Very nice deal for data users… i find it hard to use 500gb's a month on Amaysim.

    • +8

Why's that? Is it because you would need to mortgage your home to pay for 500gb/month? ;-)

      • opps meant 500Mbs

  • Its definitely a Thumbs up for me

  • Is Amaysim still 3G not 4G? If so then no deal for me, too slow :(

    • Yep, still 3G and no dates about when they might offer 4G…

      • +1

I dont know about that.. i'm getting 2Mbps (2MB each 1 second) download in Sydney CBD i download 65mb's on my LG Pro 2 4G in 40 seconds! … never used to get that on my old 3G Samsung Galaxy S3 would take about 10 minutes. *Same Amaysim Sim card.

On my home ADSL2+ connection i get 1.2mbps MAX download.. so not sure whats going on here.

        • +1

Good work on the LG Pro 2!

        • +1

Sorry for the nitpicking, but 2Mbps is actually 2 megabits per second. If you are downloading 65MB in 40 seconds that's around 13Mbps. Not sure about Optus but certainly achievable with 3.5G/HSDPA.

        • ADSL connection is based on your distance from the exchange box (Where the fiber connects) the rest of the distance is made up of poor copper. You most likely are far from the exchange so receive bad connection speeds as copper has a greater limit over distance.

    • +2

If you are after 4G then Optus's $2 per day (pre-paid) offer will get you 4G for aprox $60 per month (with 15GB of data).

The only issue is that you can only use 500MB of data per day. If that isn't a problem its definitely the best value for money 4G plan out there.

      • you can use 1gb a day by paying an extra $2 when you pass 500mb, I used this for a long time and works great. Rang up and complained to them once because I used up complete 1gb allowance in about 10 minutes Thought it was impossible until I did it again and saw the download speed!!! Wasn't even in the city.

  • +1

is that still calculate as per mb?

    • no. per month…

      • i mean data calcuated as per MB

      • hilarious jv.

  • i just want 4G amaysim ;)

    • Amaysim don't consider 4G as mainstream yet…

      http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2014/08/amsyim-unlimited-has-in…

      • +1

Who needs 4g when my mobile downloads faster then my home ADSL2+ connection that's sitting on 24000kbps sync to the exchange haha! …

        • my friend gets 70000 kbps on his optus 4G

        • @tintsurfer:

Do we need such fast net on our mobiles for posting on facebook? Do we need it to be faster then our home fixed line connections that we download 100's of GB's per month on? If only we could get Fiber to the home at 1000Mbps… Its a shame we wont see these speeds for another 20-30 years after they slowed down the NBN to 25Mbps connection is finished building at a cost of $38 billion… ohh wait dont i have 25mbps NOW!!! with ADSL2+ haha no point moving to 25mbps copper/fiber mix… no point at all.. may as well burn the $38 Billion or toss it in the trash.

        • +1

@vid_ghost: exactly as long as we can watch you tube video without constant buffering then the speed is perfectly fine.
i wouldn't mind 4g as a home connection for unlimited lol

        • @holden93:

Nope.. 25mbps will be our max speed for the next 20 years… until they wanna spend another 43 Billion to fix the current mess they slowed it down too.
You can already get 1000mbps in Korea and in America where Google Fiber is available.

        • +1

          @vid_ghost:

Do we need such fast net on our mobiles for posting on facebook?

I do. I often get a quite a bit of keyboard lag when typing on Ozbargain using only 3G.

        • @vid_ghost: so when are you moving, great quality of life in both. Esp health.

        • @vid_ghost: id love to get 25mbps im getting 1.2mbps atm

        • @holden93:

sorry its NOT 25 MB PER second

its the connection speed.. i have 25mbps now with adsl2+

  • Is the 40% off just for new customers? I tried using their 20% off code for May I think it was, received a text saying that it had been applied to my account and still got charged the same the next time it auto-recharged,

  • -2

I would say that the new vidafone red month to month plans are much better specially with 4 g network for 50$/month you get:

    1)unlimited calls withen Australia
2)unlimited texts in Australia and overseas
    3) 3 gb of internet data
4)300 minutes if international phone calls

  • -4

The Amaysim unlimited plan doesn't include international call, and most people won't use $500 worths of call credit or 1 Gb data, so I chose the Kogan TeleChoice $20 plan instead, comes with $500 call including international, unlimited text to Australia, and 1Gb data on Telstra 3G network.

and don't forget, this is $5 increase deal, where is the bargain?

    • Be aware that Telechoice's International rates are exorbitant to some destinations.

    • +2

Kogan are a horrible company. I downloaded 900mb in a day and they disconnected my phone completely without notification.

    • +2

      where is the bargain?

As i stated in the deal post, this deal may not be for everyone, but is definitely a bonus if you are a heavy data user.

    • No such thing as kogan mobile there gone dude.

      • He's talking about the telechoice plans for kogan refugees. the 20$ plan is quite good

  • +5

Not a bargain, just their standard price.

    • why the negative am I wrong?

      • -2

Embrace the negativity Jack, jealousy is a curse… Empower yourself to achieve greatness…

  • +5

Not a bargain at all, this is just a normal plan, where is the discount.

and anyways Optus 3G is shite, get telstra 4G prepaid with 3.8GB a month for $50, can't be beat.

    • Can you provide a link to this?

Telstra 4GB with phone and 3.8GB of data for $50?

      • I didn't mention a phone, it's pre-paid.

Look at any of the pre-paid reviews out there on LifeHacker, they all recommend Telstra as the best deal going, due the to quality of the network and reasonable data allowance

      • +1

cap encore is no longer available to new customers and the new freedom plan doesn't allow you to purchase data packs..

        • The Encore name is gone but the Freedom $50 plan is exactly the same by the looks of it.

$950 bonus credit + $50 credit (used to buy the 3GB data pack addon), 800MB data (charged per KB), and free talk and text from 6PM to 6AM.

EDIT: Just read that you can't use your $50 to buy data for new customers! Ignore this post then…

    • you cant get this, telstra has canned cap encore.

  • How do i get 4g telstra for $50??
ill rather get that over this…

    • +1

$50 encore pre-paid cap, which gives you 800MB and $50 credit, with that credit you can by 3GB of data, bringing the total to 3.8GB for $50 and about $1000 of call credit

      • +1
      • Only problem, once you get the $49 data pack, you won't have enough credit to retrieve voicemails. Telstra charges like $1.11 per voicemail call and it's taken from recharge credit, not call credit.

        But great deal nonetheless.

        • +2

sure not for everyone, I use their free sms voicemail service anyways

      • as per above Telstra have removed cap encore for new customers

        • well thats a real kick in the nuts.

        • As above, they've just renamed it. Encore is now 'Freedom'. Looks like the same inclusions as Encore had.

EDIT: Bastards! If you can't buy the data packs, that's a no-go. Looks like I'm staying on this Encore idea…

      • you cant buy the data with the credit anymore and they have made the new one 28 days instead of 30days. Read up on whirlpool about it.
encore is gone, no-one can get it . only those on it right now can still have it.

      • Just saw they changed the plan 2 days ago, bastards. I'm going to stay grandfathered in for as long as they allow me, nothing else compares.

  • +1

$50 per month with Telstra pre-paid is definitely more attractive than this. Better coverage across Australia, the best 4G network in Australia, $50 credit + $950 cap credit + 800MB data. You then have the option of spending $49 of the credit on a 3GB plus pack (3.8GB total). Don't need that much data? You can also use the credit in the Google Play Store with the Bill to Telstra feature, get a Google All Access Music subscription etc.

The 1GB extra data is really just an excuse to increase the price by $5 per month. They would have done their research, and seen that only a fraction of customers use anywhere near 4GB of data per month.

Edit: Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics suggest that the average mobile subscriber downloads about 300MB of data per month (October 2013).

    http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/latest-news/mobile-down…

    • Telstra encore is gone and you cant do this anymore.

      • Looks like you can still do this with Telstra Pre-paid Freedom plans. 28 day expiry instead of 30 day expiry though.

  • +8

Definitely not a bargain, I'm paying $5 more. Bs

    • I don't want an extra 1GB for $5. I'll be going elsewhere.

  • +4

More expensive. Typical how all these telcos see data taking over from calls and are trying to gouge the price!

  • +3

    $5 more expensive

  • +4

Increase in price is a deal?

  • +2

Amaysim can stick their extra gig of data for $5! They should be focusing their efforts on 4G ffs.
I will be looking for another plan as I am flat out using the 4gig of data they provide now and have no interest in getting more for $5.

  • +7

This really belongs in the forum. Price increase is not a deal.

  • If you can get by on Vodafone in your area, Lebara is the cheapest unlimited plan at $29.95 per month.

  • sucks $5 more and i only use ~1gig I need the calls.

    • come to boost mobile $40 with 2gb data

  • +2

I think this is a backwards step.

  • +1

    No way.
I will probably switch to other brand out there in the field.
I just need the free call and text, why u rip me off with 5 bucks?

  • My friends are going to be so so annoyed…
Lucky I didn't get the starter packs from the DSE deal… Porting and needing to change again is really inconvenient..

    Anyways:
Removal of free social media (currently on prepaid social with Optus so I'm used to having it being unlimited)

Compulsory extra $5 fee just to increase data… Are they compensating for the loss of free social media by charging you for that compensation…

    Not a deal.

  • Terrible. My other half just ported over from the Lebara $29.90 plan. She needed to swap over to Optus because I just bought her a G Pro 2 from the 20% off eBay deal. Now she will be out of pocket $15 over her old plan. GG Amaysim. Might take a look at Vaya.

  • Liveconnected gave me 4G and kept social and per kb billing with my price increase….you should read the complaints about that on whirlpool.

BTW 4G rocks 50 down 20 up…but the best bit is the ping down to 30/40 down from like 140 on 3G.

  • +6

If you're operating - or looking to operate - at around the 2.5GB monthly data-use level, want 4G access, and are happy with postpaid instead of prepaid, Spintel have just announced a revamping of their plans.

On the Optus network - with 4G access - the top plan now offers unlimited calls and text + aforementioned 2.5GB data-allowance, for $36 a month.
Previous incarnation of the the plan was $45 a month, so quite a drop.

I have no idea about the quality of the customer service, or other things related, but an option for some (of the royally-pissed-off above) to look at.

    • That almost seems too good to be true.

You just select the small plans and they automatically bump you if you use more…

      • Yes, with the lower the plans, and on the surface of it, 'the bump' seems to just come with a 1 to 3 dollar monthly penalty.

        • I don't get it, I don't see any penalty.

        • you have misunderstood it bump from small to med is $1
med to large is $2 and Large to X large is $3
there is no fee at all.

        • I was using the word 'penalty' just in the context of extra (not anticipated) cost in a given month's (originally anticipated) spend. That's all.

    • Looks like really good value
unlimited calls and 100 text and 2.5gb data looks awesome lol
