Kindle Paperwhite (2012 1st Gen) Wi-Fi + 3G - $100, Kindle 4 Wi-Fi - $60 @ Big W (In Store)

881

Found these on clearance in store at Big W in NSW. The Paperwhite is the Wifi + 3G version (Supposedly down from $248).

edit: The $60 one was actually a Kindle 4 I think. The one with the directional pad at the bottom.

Whenever I see paperwhite my brain converts it to paperweight :s

        • +2

          You obviously don't like reading…

        • Guaranteed way to get negged, mention broadening while bagging the product :-)

        • -2

          That's mean.

  • +2

Which store in NSW did you go to?

  • Outstanding!

  • Any confirmation other than a link to a website that has no kindles on it?

    • +1

      Picture uploaded.

      • niceeee

      • Which store is this , I rang Auburn NSW and they don't have stock

  • +6

    Anyone seen this in VIC?

  • Nice, but I haven't seen Kindle 3 for a long time, so little chance to find one around.

Edit: Hah, it's a 1st gen paperwhite, then bargain it is.

  • +1

    None at Top Ryde

    • Rang them before as well, nothing.

  • +17

None in Vic just call them all

    • Thanks - I was just about to do that.

  • Yeah, tried a few in NSW, none have the kindle paperwgite with 3G. The normal paperwhite are like $10 off and the others aren't cheap.

  • -2

Are any of these hack able and run android

    • +1

      E-Ink Android - fun fun!

  • could officeworks match this, if they have kindle?

    • +1

usually doesn't apply to clearance items

  • +2

None in Adelaide so far, only tried North and West of town though.

  • How much is the WiFi version of paperwhite?

  • -3

    Any of these backlit?

  • 3G? Can u brows the Internet with these?

    • +7

Download books on the go, there's an experimental browser but you'd have more fun slitting your wrist. 3G is pointless on these imo.

      • -1

3G is only needed for those who live in the analogue age and don't have wifi at home or are just tech illiterate, like my mother-in-law! She's about the only person I know who has the 3G but it means she can buy books with ease wherever she is, including travelling, without having to know about local networks etc.

It all comes down the line via Amazon's Whispernet.

        • +6

Hmm… I have a paperwhite kindle with 3g AND I don't live in the analogue age AND I am NOT tech illiterate. You nailed it when you said "she can buy books with ease wherever she is". I like the ability to be able to buy a book on the go, not having to find a wifi network, then login, etc. Yes, I download most of my stuff at home on the Wifi, but not always.

        • +1

Appreciate your position - and 3G is an extra plus but I think for most people that slight additional ease isn't worth the extra premium spend given wifi is so readily available these days.

Also, given these devices hold thousands of books you shouldn't really ever be caught without something the read. It's a library in your pocket - or bag ;)

Not trying to say all 3G owners are luddites, but most sales are for the wifi only model. Don't take it personally - oops, too late, you already have.

3G is only needed for those who live in the analogue age…

…and people who travel overseas. Free, world-wide 3g comes in handy when you just need access to your email and whatever "tourist SIM" the guy at the kiosk sold you doesn't seem to be working.

The one thing I have used the browser for occasionally is Gmail. The browser still sucks, but I can access my email in all kinds of countries without needing to worry about local sims or finding WiFi.

I never use it to check my email at home, though. It's a travelling thing.

        • +1

Wow, that's a great point, I didn't realise that the 3g extended to browsing general Web pages

  • Is this a limited time special or new Pryce

  • 35 upvotes but nobody knows which store…

    • +2

nobody cares, it just sounds like its worth queuing up for.

  • Has anyone noticed the date at the bottom of it? 26/08/2014

This seems like an amazing deal (if it can be found). If there is one in the Sydney area please let me know!

    • -1

      Ok

  • it's on a store to store basis, This store probably cannot move their stocks hence the store manager initiated a clearance sale

    • +1

If only we knew which store, then we'd help them move their stock.

      • most of the time it is snapped up by staff :) unless the stores employ moms and dads

  • +1

I have a paperwhite (I bought in the US when I was there 2 years ago).
    Its a brilliant device.

    For a $100 a real bargain

    • -4

      Excellent comment!

  • +1

None at Pagewood NSW store when I rang around 18:00. Looks like a one-off store specific. Please stop up/+ voting. It's not much of a deal if nobody seems to know whether/where it can be found.

    • +4

Thats a negative, at least in Queensland. All the stores have it at $100 and I just got the last one in Beenleigh. Thanks OP!

  • +1

Was on sale but sold out in Perth shops as follows:
    Livingstone
    Phoenix
    Riverton
    Gateways

  • +1

    No deal in Woden, ACT.

  • Nothing in Mackay except for WiFi for $178.

  • -2

Driving from Townsville to Brisbane have been dropping into stores on the way. Finally paid off, bought the last 4 in Maryborough.

Found this while looking at another deal posted on here:
    http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/amazon-all-new-kindl…

They have the Kindle Paperwhite (2013) for $119, normally $179 at most retail shops like dick smith.
It also comes with a free case, shipping starts from $19. So $138 with shipping and a case… Pretty good price!

  • -2

84 votes without knowing where OP takes his picture. Maybe I should also start photoshopping deals to get on front page

    • It's confirmed for NSW/QLD, probably national. If you find some stock get them to scan it even if it doesn't have a sign for the lower price.

      • Maybe just QLD?

I'm not saying deal is not real, i'm just pointing out the fact that OP would rather leave everyone guessing, phoning, driving around than just tell us where he shopped, or at least approximate location. I dont know why it is so hard?

And FYI, big W has stores in Broken Hill, Tweed heads etc and they are still considered NSW, only over 800km from Sydney. So if OP purchased at Tweed heads, there is a chance they play by QLD rule to push stock out?

  • +1

Just bought one at Campsie NSW. Two left in the cabinet.

    • Sorry for neg, my tablet is a little imprecise. Congrats on the pickup.

  • +1

Thanks just got one from Fairfield nsw, they had 2 $60 versions left..

  • +1

Rang the ACT stores just in case there might be some old stock around, but unfortunately none to be found here.

  • I have a Paperwhite WiFi+3G and the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite LeatherCover, both in pristine condition I'd like to sell in VIC 3108.
If anyone is keen, please msg.
