Like most video stores these days it seems, Blockbuster Langwarrin is closing down. I went to Subway next door to it and saw the signs in the window.
They have 3 for $30 on all new release movies. I got The Lego Movie, Pompeii and Non-Stop on Blu Ray. They all came in their original covers (not ex rental ones). Not bad for latest release stuff.

OP did mention blu ray?
did mention blu ray?
even so, you can pick up the lego movie blu ray new for around $15… $10 for a used one isn't much of a bargain…
Yes, I specifically said Blu Ray. The movies I got are no more than a few weeks old. You can't buy them in the shops for close to that. Additionally, they looked pretty much brand new. I guess they haven't been rented too often…that just may have something to do with them closing down.
And finally, I don't see how you can honestly rip on any post when all you do is post $2 savings on iphone apps.
Is that all you've got? Brilliant.
@jv:
"ex-rentals usually go for $2-$3, …."
That's a dodgy statement, don't let the ACCC catch you for that one.
"Usually $2-$3" does not equal "from $2.99" as per your link. $2.99 is the minimum and so the reference to $2 is a scam (copyright "The Checkout, ABC"). :)
Hopefully at least some of the sale ex-rentals at your link are Blurays else the comparison is even worse.
What were you thinking? Taken down by an OzBargainer on L plates!
This subthread needs popcorn. http://i.imgur.com/LBt6j.gif
JV's right…. 3 for $30 for used Bluray's isnt cheap… not exactly sure why you are arguing with him?
My local Blockbuster closed down 6 months ago. Prices will come down over the coming days/weeks, and then the bargains come out.
But 3 used for $30? JB's have regular promo's of 3 for $30 for brand new versions.
There's always going to haters who lemming vote JB's posts purely because they already see negs there, but seriously… ex rentals for $10 each?!? No way.
@UFO:
Perhaps you didn't see the "ex-rentals usually go for $2-$3" bit and the link to the other offer?
@UFO:
Once again, I refer specifically to the actual movies I got for my $30.
Pompeii 3D $32.98 at JB
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-shows/movies-tv-shows-on…Non-Stop $32.98 at JB
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-shows/movies-tv-shows-on…The Lego Movie $29.98 at JB
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-shows/movies-tv-shows-on…I realise the value is relative to the titles you choose, but in my case, it seems like I got a fair deal. (Except Pompeii. It is rubbish.)
@Sleutheren: you should assume that for any movie appended with '3D'
The real Pompeii on the other hand, totes amazing when you consider the entire city has been underground for eons. Definitely recommend a visit if you find yourself in Italy heading down to the Amalfi Coast.
They close down because they're getting ripped off. I believe they pay more for a rental disc than buying a retail. They can't buy retail because retail discs say they are not for rental. They're getting an identical product but being charged more for it because they can. With movies so cheap to buy nowadays it doesn't surprise me no on rents anymore. Plus things like Netflix..
Cough torrents
They're not so much paying for the actual disc, but more the licensing to sell or rent the disc out!
$10 for a movie is not cheap. If this video store thinks this is clearance prices, it shows how out of touch they are.
exactly not a bargain price just checkout JB sales for bluray discs they seem to do 2 for 20 or 30 quite often for brand new discs
All older movies. New releases cost far more. eg Pompei $30
This Blockbuster is in a very crappy location. It’s separated from the main block of shops that have Woolies. It’s also surrounded by other ordinary food stores… Domino’s (other pizza stores in the area for similar pricing that are 5 times better), Big Fish (probably not bad, but has a couple of other fantastic Fish’n’Chip shops to compete against in better locations), Subway (not bad for lunch if you’ve got a discount voucher)!
Also, let's be honest, for $10 most people can (right or wrong) theoretically get a dozen or more movies and stream them anywhere in the house or to any device they like!
Yeah but minority still has limited home download data and slow Internet connection for streaming a blu ray quality movie.
ADSL2 is highly available.
Sucked down a 1080p blueray off Usenet to my NAS in 2.25 hours. I can wait that long to save me $10.
If its anything like the closing down sale they had in Cremorne then the prices will get better closer to the day of final closing.
$10 for a used DVD is not cheap…
