Various Olsent CFL Light Globes for $2 at Woolworths

141

I was at 3 different Woolworths stores in Melbourne's outer South East throughout the day and all 3 had a range of Olsent CFL Light Globes in Edison Screw and Bayonet Cap from 8W to 23W in Warm White and Cool White for just $2.
Ps. The pic only shows about 1/2 the range that's on offer!

    • <5mg Mercury Content. Should be alright as long as don't go eating or snorting them!
Edit: Funnily enough, I just broke a small one when I dropped it (still in the box) about 5 minutes ago!

      • at this price i will be buying.

I've seen this pricing in Brisbane too.

My guess is that CFL is being phased out quickly for LED. I know the house I am in is 5 1/2 years old and the CFL lights are all starting to fail. I was replacing them with CFL but now I'm looking for the LED replacement.

    • Bunnings and ALDI should be useful for this

      • Ikea as well! :) I replaced 4 of my GU10 Bulbs I use outside originally 50watt each bulb, I now have 4x 4watt bulbs in em ;) still just as good!

  • This price here in WA as well

  • Yeah this is a great deal I think. Sizing is tough for BC cap though. The best bulb in their range is the 700 lumen 12w spiral. The rest aren't bright enough and the 18w stick is really long. Found out a week ago that my parents didn't know the evils of incandescent globes. Fitted out their whole house for $24 total.

Yeah I think led will be just mainstream In six months. 9w good shelf brand LEDs will be around $6 soon.

  • Also if your outdoor lights are es I think the 20w es ones are great and a cheap way to have a few spares.

Not sure if led globes will ever be as bright as the 20w cfl spirils.

    • I just put one in the new front porch light!

  • Unfortunately the majority of my house is either down lights or R50 spots, and the exterior is covered in Par38. But I did put a couple of cool white 23w in the garage and a 12w in the door motor!

  • This does not appear to cover all the range.

I can't find any 23W in single packs.

Also, for some stupid reason, 20 W spiral Warm white is $2 but the 20W spiral Cool white is NOT.

  • Keep your receipt in case of failure and need to return.

Olsent is Woolworths home brand and is also sold at Masters.

I have not had much luck with this brand of bulbs both in CFL and Halogen.

I bought a bunch of these during a 2-4-1 sale at Masters online.

I have had almost all of the bulbs fail in less than 6 months, some even after only 1 day.

Despite the box claiming a 100% satisfaction guarantee within 12 months, Masters online did not accept any responsibility for the sale, and advised I had to take them back to the store they were shipped from.

The store was located in Victoria, and I am Western Australia, so not really a useful solution.

In the end I did not bother taking it any further, but happy to tell my tale and I have had no issues with replacement brands I purchased instead.

I'm sure you'd have more success returning them to your local Woolworths, but even at $2 I wouldn't purchase Olsent bulbs, it's just false economy.
