Citibank Signature Card No Annual Fee for Life

1890

This deal is back i noticed. I signed up to it last time. No sign up points/short term incentives but i recommend it as a long term card option on the following basis (the below is for the signature card):

  • No annual fee for life
  • reward points (1.5 citibank points per dollar spent, effective conversion rate of $1 spent equal to 1 velocity or singapore airlines point)
  • priority pass membership (with 2 free visits a year)
  • free bottle of wine at selected restaurants (restaurants can be found using the citibank app)
  • travel insurance and price protection insurance
  • up to 55 interest free days

Application criteria may be assessed on income, I had a friend who applied for the signature but only received the platinum (which is not quite as good).

Hopefully of interest to someone.

LOL I didn't realise you can transact in pesos in Australia.

On a different note: My cousin's godfather's sister in law's hairdresser buys their fruit from a street vendor in Brazil next to a Citibank ATM. The other day they saw someone's card being captured by that very same ATM. Shock horror!! >>>>>>> Conclusion steer clear of Citi CCards in Australia.

      • -1

You're missing the point. That's no way to treat customers, even if they owe you money. They could've been chargefd with illegal detention.

The pesos was a giveaway that said Citi is not Australia based.

        • +3

          Facepalm

  • I tried to retrieve the application but I need a ping that was supposed to be sent to my mobile phone !! Nothing on my mobile…When this stuff happens it makes me think if I want to be a client of this bank. I remember trying to open an account with the before but giving up because it was to much hassle compared to other banks.

  • Last year I tried to get annual fee removed from my Signature card and was successful for the primary but not the secondary card.
This time, I called and referenced this deal = no fees for life on both cards.

Thanks to this thread, a decent saving

  • Sounds like a deal but I didn't compare the price to others

    • +3

      free = priceless :)

  • Thanks for posting this, applied this morning and got approval in a couple hours. Time to cancel my old CC. Now to look for a new bank transactional account…

  • My application has been conditionally approved… They say they want more info regarding my details, income etc.

In this email, they give you a number of options to submit them, whereby I chose to submit via the Document upload (clicked the link which navigates me to www.citibank.com.au/global_docs/kana/online_verification.htm).

All this bloody gives you is the ability to submit your personal details to identify you (i.e. drivers licence, passport, medicare card). The title of this page is Citibank Plus Online Verification, so it looks it's meant for the Plus account.

I've submitted these details as per the Document upload, but they don't give me an option to submit income details!!!

I agree with most people, their site sucks.

Anyhoo, I cbf'd going into work to print the income documents and fax them through or to post. All this stuff I already have on softcopy. Not keen to email (as they recommend to encrypt it, not sure how to).

I read somewhere that people that had conditional approved just waited, and their cards actually arrived in the mail without them doing anything further. I've been trying to find those comments but can't find them again. Anyone can confirm this to be the case for them?

    • Yes. They asked for income documents which I had already provided. I emailed saying I've already provided them, heard nothing for 3 weeks and then the card came. The website sucks so bad that I don't think I'll use this card much.

      • Yeah a bloke from Citibank called me on Monday cob for further income documentation and said he'll email me and all I need is to reply back with the attachments and it'll be finalised (approved/rejected) the same day. The email address is the same one as the email option I could have sent it to previously (the recommend you to encrypt one). As I was shooting out the door, I didn't get a chance to send it so sent it off Tuesday morning. I haven't heard back from them yet, but will touch base on Friday to see wtf is happenning.

Only reason I got this card is due to it being Signature and annual free for life. I also got the ANZ FF Black card and will be using that more frequently, but the Citibank is back up in case ANZ decide not to waive the annual fee when I call them a year later.

        • Well well well, I got an email just now saying that I have been approved and the card is on the way ^_^

        • Update time!!!

I haven't received my card, but I was curious and hopped onto netbanking as I already have a Plus acct with Citibank.

To my dismay, I saw that they have set up my credit card acct online, however it was a Platinum @ $11k limit. WTF!?!?!

Got onto the phone and spoke with cs, and they advised that my application was for a Platinum, not Signature. WTF again!?!?

I confirmed that I have email documentary evidence that clearly indicates that my application was for a Signature and is approved. These guys are soo bloody frustrating to correspond with. Their standard reply is "I understand, BUT"… I said but nothing, I was approved for the Signature application, so there is no if's or but's.

I got them to escalate this to their supervior and spoke with them. They said that I only qualified for $11k max limit, not $15k so I was placed onto Platinum. I cracked it and said that they gave me a product that I did not sign up for nor intend to sign up for, and if I wasn't approved for Signature then they should have emailed me with notification saying it wasn't approved, not just switch me over to another product.

The supervisor asked me to forwarded my email to them which shows it's for a Signature application. They'll get back to me in 3 business days.

Need to be firm with Citibank cs, seems like they run off scripts.

Hopefully they rectify this to the correct Signature card. Else, Financial Ombudsman?

I'll report back to see what the outcome is. I know a few others had the same as me, not getting the actual product applied for!!!

        • You wouldn't have an email that specifically indicates that you have been approved for a signature card. It just says approved.
Seems like you didn't qualify so you have the option of just cancelling if you don't want the Platinum card. From a credit history perspective it's probably better to be approved for something rather than get rejected which may work in your favor. (This depends on what credit agencies are capturing these days as part of the 'new' processes)

Either way, good luck if you can get Signature but it seems like you're trying to use Citibank's 'grey' practices as leverage to get a card that you may technically not be entitled to.

As I said earlier, if you don't want Platinum just cancel. You will be no worse off than where you started.

        • @gimme:

Yes, I do have an email that does specifically state that my application was for a Signature card. Luckily for me, this email was not a generic email, and came from a cs rep that I spoke to which needed a reply from me which income paperwork, and that email clearly mentions an application for a Signature card (albeit, the email came from their generic email address). The next day, I got an email stating that my application was approved. All the application Id's relate back to the Signature card.

Wasn't trying to "try" get something that I'm not entitled to, nor "try" use their grey practices as leverage.

I confirmed that I have email documentary evidence that clearly indicates that my application was for a Signature and is approved.

Just trying to get the product I was "approved" for, and not something else.

        • We may be splitting hairs here but I was referring whether the approval email you received indicated that you were approved for a signature card.

I realise you applied for a sign card and you have evidence to show that. I'm referring to the wording of the email in their approval notification. (not application)

Your case is similar to everyone else who got only approved for Platinum.

Bottom line - Irrespective of what you applied for and what they offered you in return (approved platinum)you can't use their 'wording'/processes as leverage to obtain something you may not be entitled to. You can try though and good luck.

        • @gimme: Ahh gotcha, yeah the "approval" email was the generic one which doesn't incidate what product is being approved.

Nonetheless, I spoke with a Citibank manager today and they got the all clear from the verifications team. The manager had the same view as mine, and sorted it all out for me. My income etc. wasn't in question, just that there credit check process ended up with my only sitting on $11k max (maybe my recent approval for ANZ FF Black card played a part)!

By the sounds of things from your input (which is greatly appreciated btw) and the discussion I had with the manager, my case isn't so similar to everyone elses, as I did get an email from a "human" indicating that my application was specifically for a Signature, not just the generic computerised distributed ones that doesn't specify the product. He did mention that I got the go ahead as it was due to my "human" email that I received, which if Citibank didn't honour me my Signature card, it would be contradictory to the correspondence I have received.

Ultimately, I see where you are coming from, however I still disagree to "you can't use their 'wording'/processes as leverage to obtain something you may not be entitled to" as I was entitled to this by way of the contact and discussion I had with the first cs rep. If I hadn't received the "human" email from this rep clearly showing the product (i.e. Signature), then I may not have a case. Although, I would then "try use Citibank's 'grey' practices as leverage to get a card that you may technically not be entitled to" lol. I'd encourage people to try, as they will be no worse off than where they started ay?

        • Good outcome indeed. Don't get me wrong, definitely give it a shot, don't ask don't get. And in a lot of cases verbal negotiations can trump some automated credit check. My main point was that some people would act all entitled (which you didn't) and Citibank are well within then rights to reject any application they don't see fit.

Incidentally, if you have a ANZ FF black card, why would you need the Citi one?

        • @gimme: Got the ANZ FF Black purely for the bonus 50k FF points, and the unlimited access to Veloce airport lounges as I'm travelling overseas in less then a month. Also the offer of no annual fee for the 1st year was the icing on the cake. Plan is to ask for the annual fee to be waived when the year is up, and if I can't then I'll cancel the card… Then I'll have this Citibank Signature to use with the no annual fee for life (not sure if they'll have this offer again a year later).

  • Okay I've tried to sign up twice now and it just gets stuck on the please wait bit and then times out. I'm not entering all my details again just to have that happen.

  • Does the Signature one have no complementary insurance?

Also anyone knows if it has 0 overseas transaction fees (similar to 28 degrees) & 0 ATM fees (similar to Citi Credit Plus Visa debit?

    • It does have overseas transaction fees, and it is a CREDIT card, so any cash taken out is considered a cash advance and will immediately incur interest until paid.

    • Does the Signature one have no complementary insurance?

      http://www.citibank.com.au/complimentaryinsurance :)

  • don't forget visa premium privileges and concierge :)

  • Has anyone 'exaggerated' their income to qualify for signature? What are the consequences of getting caught (if they even care). As long as you pay off your statements on time right?

    • Citibank asks for copies of your payslips and artefacts to prove other sources of income. Not sure how it will look on your credit file if you got rejected for exaggerating on your application form.

  • So i applied last night, uploaded my driver licence and payslips. Today someone with an indian accent calling from a private number called me and said he was from Citibank, asked me if i could send him my medicare and passport details straight away so he could approve my application immediately. Do they even work on the weekend? Is this legit? I think he was because he knew i uploaded the docs, but why was so so eager to approve it? I had to say no a few times saying i couldnt do it until monday cuz i was travelling.

    • Weird, because I rang their main number on Thu night to check how my application was going after I uploaded the docs last week, and they gave me the Verification Team direct number, saying they're only open from 9 - 5 M - F.

      • Hi kiitos,
Can you send me the Verification Team direct number?

  • whats the qantas earn per $1 on these cards?

    • $1 = 1 QFF point. Only if you enrolled into Citibank Qantas rewards for $49 p.a.

  • Anyone wanting to sell velocity points???

  • I still have my trusty Citibank Citibusiness Gold card, haven't paid an annual fee on it for about 12 years, (they waive it every year) and its 1.25 Points per dollar spent, which converts to 1.25 QFF points per dollar when I ring up once every few months and manually transfer them over to Qantas. Its a brilliant card.

  • Hmm… I had my balance transfer applied twice. Now my 28 degrees card is sitting at -$2,600 balance. If only there were still no cash advance fees in the negative…

  • So I asked about an upgrade from Platinum to Signature while keeping the no annual fee for life and this is the response I got.

    Thank you for your email.

We confirm that you can request to upgrade your Platinum Credit Card to
a Visa Signature Credit Card (approval subject to the bank's leding
criteria). However, please note that changing products wil result in the
loss of any discounts and promotions applicable on the account (balance
transfers exempted). As such, an upgrade will result in the forfeiture
of your annual fee free promotion.

Moreover, changing from Citi Rewards to Citi Qantas Rewards will also
result in any existing points to be lost (your current points balance is
    xxxxx).

Should you wish to proceed with the upgrade, please advise your
confirmation and understanding via reply email. Alternatively, you can
    contact us on 13 24 84, or if overseas via +61 2 8225 0615. We are
available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If there's anything else we can do to assist you, please let us know and
    we?ll be happy to help.

Thank you for using the Citibank Australia Website.

    Yours sincerely,
    Citibank Online Customer Service Centre

    • Call them up and say your ozbargain friends did it, why can't you?

    • +1

You probably didn't ask the right question. Should have told them you are inquiring about the FREE (no annual fee promo) card and provide link. Also why are you xfering from Citi Rewards to Qantas Rewards? Just to a straight Citi>Citi xfer first then sign up to Qantas if you want.

Remember these guys aren't trained to exercise judgement/discretion. You need to guide them along by asking the right questions in the right way.

    • Don't do it by email. Just call them say there's an equivalent promotion for signature cards.. clearly you meet the criteria to have a signature card so why can't they transfer you as a valued customer from one to the other, given new customers are being offered the same deal and others who had signed on to platinum have either been automatically upgraded on the same terms or have subsequently successfully transferred to signature on request. Do it on the phone and demand an answer right then and there… put them on the spot.

When I got my upgrade I called and asked if I can upgrade she said yes. I asked about the no annual fee and she said I'd lose that benefit. But I said I am aware of the same promotion being run right now for signature cards, and you've just told me that I meet the criteria to have a signature card, so why can't I transfer at the same rate. She asked me for the name of the promotion and I told her then she spoke to her manager and said that's fine.

  • Thanks again! Love this!

Just got approved this morning after submitting verification documents online.

    • It's been two weeks for me so far, and I checked my application status online just now, and it now says "Rejected"!

Don't understand. I'm an IT contractor, have own company, uploaded my last two personal income tax returns showing decent earnings.

      I believe I have a good credit history, though I haven't checked.

I'll call them tomorrow, I guess, but what sort of reasons would be cause for rejecting me? I spoke to a verification team person this week, explaining why I didn't have a 2014 income tax return to upload, as the FY has only just ended, and it seemed OK.

      • Yeah probably best to call them to check, different bank have differen lending criteria so it could be anything really.

I've had a credit card with Citibank many many moons ago so that may have helped ?

        • I just rang them and it was very frustrating. I spoke to someone who reeled off a list of possible areas that could have lead to it being rejected - employment status, residential status, credit history, income.

I indicated AFAIK all those areas should be fine for me (the employment status area is the one I suspect, being self-employed) and asked for the specific reason. He said he can't provide more information and said he'd transfer me to another team. I ended up at (what I later realised was) the normal customer service number, who proceeded to reel off the same list, and said they can't provide more information as their credit assessment rules are private.

I expressed my frustration at this, and she said I can fax through a request for reassessment, with whatever documentation I may have missed. I said without a hint at what was seen as lacking, I would be bombarding them with a lot of documentation.

Any suggestions about the best way forward? I'm quite alarmed about this, as I presume I now will have a credit rejection on my credit history!

        • @aaarrrnnn:

Perhaps you could get a copy of your credit report? I doubt Citibank or any bank for that reason would give you an exact reason

You can request a credit report here (free, provided you meet the criteria)

          http://www.oaic.gov.au/privacy/privacy-topics/credit-and-fin…

You can get a copy of your credit report for free from a CRB in all of the following circumstances:
          * if you have applied for, and been refused credit, within the past 90 days
          * where your request for access relates to a decision by a CRB or a credit provider to correct information included in your credit report, and
          * once a year (not counting the above circumstances).
Credit reports are required to be provided within 10 days of the receipt of your request, however, if you want your report immediately there may be a charge involved. You can check with the CRB about any charges involved in getting your credit report immediately.

  • Free travel insurance seems good?

    http://www.citibank.com.au/aus/static/complimentary_insuranc…

maybe too good? Am i missing something? As long as you buy the ticket with this card then your covered for any country?

    • Yeah, that's kinda one of the biggest selling features of this card. However, check the list of inclusions and exclusions, and I haven't really heard any stories about how easy people found actually trying to make a claim but that'd be something to keep in mind as well.

    • I wouldn't say it's too good. It's on par with almost all other CC insurances yet the qualfication critera is actually stricter than some others. e.g With ANZ you only need to spend a few hundred $$ towards your trip (hotel is ok) whereas with this one you need to charge the entire first leg of your airfare which can be costly if you're getting charged credit card fees etc.

You missed these 2 critical elements:

      1. The 50,000 Qantas Points offer is available to new Citibank clients who invest a minimum of $100,000 in eligible deposit or investment products, and apply for the Citibank Qantas Signature Credit Card by 5 September. Qantas Points will ordinarily be credited within 6-8 weeks.

  • Hi all,

Looking for a new CC with points and noticed there's still some activity on this thread.

Unless I've missed something, this card no longer comes with a free annual fee? and its now $299?
This is the site I could find on Citi's website - http://www.citibank.com.au/aus/credit_cards/cards_signature.…
    This one has 60,000 points

    Then I came across this - http://www.citibank.com.au/familyandfriends/
No annual fee / but no points bonus
When does this offer expire? As the site states 'Offer ends 31 July 2014.' but the page still works

Sorry but have I missed something? IS this another card? Or there is no annual fee?

    Around points, T&C's state:
    3. Citibank Rewards and Citibank Qantas Rewards are two separate programs. Unless you choose the Citibank Qantas Rewards program (for an annual fee of $49), you will be automatically be enrolled in the Citibank Rewards Program. Under the Citibank Rewards program you will earn 1.5 rewards points per dollar spent. Citibank Rewards Points are subject to the Citibank Reward Terms and Conditions. Under the Citibank Qantas Rewards Program you will earn one Qantas Frequent Flyer point per dollar of eligible spend. Once Qantas Frequent Flyer points have been transferred to your Qantas Frequent Flyer account, they cannot be reversed. Qantas Frequent Flyer points are earned in accordance with the Citibank Qantas Rewards Program Terms and Conditions and you must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program in order to earn or redeem Qantas Frequent Flyer points. A joining fee applies. Qantas Frequent Flyer points and membership are subject to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program Terms and Conditions. Full details are available at qantas.com/frequentflyer. Enrolment in the Citibank Qantas Rewards program can be requested on card activation or after approval of new card by contacting Citibank on 1800 818 008.

So if I've got this right and select QF points, then there is no $49 annual fee (cause I don't want Citi Rewards)

    • I think citibank haven't 'ended' the deal, even though the expiry has passed.

I noticed the other day the deal was still there.

Not sure if the whole process works though…

    • Why is there no $49 annual fee???

  • +1

Deal hasn't ended - i was offered both options today in store.

  • If I already have QFF do I need to pay to link it to the Signature card?

    • You will have to pay the $49 annual fee

  • Any comments on the comparison of the Citibank Rewards and Citibank Qantas Rewards?

$49 equals to roughly 9800 points = you have to spend nearly $10k to get the Qantas reward.

I reckon the Citibank Rewards sucks but with 1.5points/$1, it's slightly better than Citibank Qantas Rewards?

    Any thoughts?

    • I'm curious too. I have Amex Discovery earning 1 QFF point/$ spent, and Citibank signature earning 1 Velocity point/$ spent.
Haven't looked into whether Qantas points are more valuable. If they're not, I'll ditch amex. Would be nice to only need 1 card.

  • The offer is only available on the Signature card.

  • what credit limits are people getting approved for?

    • min $15K

    • +1

I was actually only approved for $11k for my Signature card, although I had to jump through a fair amount of hoops though. Finally managed to get it all sorted out yesterday. That said, I'd dare say that this was likely a once off.

See my other posts about it above!

      TL;DR:
      - Applied for the Signature card
      - Requested by Citibank for income verification which I then sent
      - Got the all clear from Citibank (including "human" confirmation, not just the automated generic one)
      - Received a Platinum card for $11k limit instead
      - Complained to Citibank
      - Ended up with a Customer Experience Manager that sorted it all out
      - Received my 'upgraded' product to Signature card for limit of $11k (Platinum card cancelled)
      - Whacked with an annual fee of $395 on the first statement
      - Complained to Citibank again as it was supposed to be annual fee free for life
      - Customer Experience Manager fixed it all up again

Annoying how I needed to jump through so many hoops to get the correct product. Citibank customer service is bloody shocking and they don't have any pull whatsoever. If you end up with someone within Australia to handle your case, then you 'may' have a better experience. In hindsight, if I knew I had to go through all this trouble I wouldn't have bothered at all. But I guess on the plus side, I got out of it a $4k less standard min limit Signature card, more than enough as a backup card.

      • How did you manage to get transferred to a Customer Experience Manager? I wouldn't mind one of them to look into my woeful experience trying to get this card:

        • Applied for card - have good credit history, good income
        • Was conditionally approved
        • Uploaded the last two income tax returns I had
        • Was asked if I had the 2013-2014 income tax return. I didn't, as this was back in July and I didn't have that one done yet), told them that, they said OK, should be OK.
        • Knocked back
        • Citi wouldn't tell me on what grounds. One CSR said I could submit more doco and ask for a reassessment
        • Submitted doco regarding investments and employment history
        • Knocked back again
        • Citi wouldn't tell me on what grounds, but the CSR hinted it may have been because I didn't have the latest income tax return. I told them it was in the process of being done by my accountant, CSR said he'd put a note on my file that I'd sent it in a few weeks.
        • Get income tax return, send it to them, as for reassessment
        • Knocked back again
        • Citi CSR says it was rejected, but was looking at the previous rejection. I explain the story, he says "Oh, yeah, we received that. But we can only reassess an application once." Not what his colleague had said…
        • I ask if I should reapply now, during their current promotion, he says it may be rejected because it's too close to this application…

Very frustrating! All bar one of the dozen or so CSRs I've spoken to are very unwilling to help.

        • I think I was so pissed at that current CSR I spoke with that I demanded to speak to her Supervisor, as I kept getting "I understand, but…" so I was fed up and said "no you don't understand, as you sound like you're working off a script with no authority… And I would like to speak with your Supervisor".

I managed to speak with the Supervisor working at that time and she got me to on forward the correspondence email I was using as my defense. She gave me her name and staff Id and said she'd take my case on personally.

A few days later, I got a call from the Customer Experience Manager and he ended up looking after my case.

If you decide to call Citibank again, I'd suggest to request the CSR to put you straight through to a Customer Experience Manager, or possibly the Customer Experience Team (assuming that's what it's called), or if they insist they can't ask to speak to their Supervisor and say you believe they'll have more authority to assist you and that you feel more comfortable talking about your case with the Supervisor.

          Good luck.

        • @kiitos:
on a side note, i suggest you request your credit file from Veda and check how many credit enquiries they put on your behalf

  • Follow the advice to arrange it well in advance for December holiday. Signed up for the package (till 31st October on the flyer) at branch, inc. plus, online and signature cc. Well more and more accounts on the way.

  • I know very little about the points schemes (I've previously always used the Jetstar Mastercard).

Is it worth paying $49/year to get QFF rather than the Citibank points or whatever?

    • After doing some research: no, it's not. Not unless you already have QFF. Better off accruing Citibank points and then converting them to Velocity or whatever.
