Aldi - Snow Gear - Reduced

190

Hi Oz bargainers,

I was over at my local Aldi store today and came across these reduced snow gear items, stocks availability will vary from store to store, I wanted to buy gloves but they were all gone at two of the store I went to. So if you are planning to go to the snow this year or whether you'd like to stock up some of the gear for next year's trip, this would save you a bit.

LOCATION: At a store near you. (Depending on whether they still have some of the snow gear left)

  • it may not be a national wide deal.

Pretty sure it's nationwide but discount varies depending on your store.

      • CertaInly not "nationwide" - Aldi is not nationwide to start with ;-) And depends on decision of each store's manager. So some stock is probably at full price at some stores, going on past form.

I got snow chains for my Subaru Forester for $30 yesterday. Several stock of all sizes at Aldi Kilsyth (Melbourne). On sale from $40

    • I was just about to ask you why you need chains with a Subaru, then saw you're from Victoria. Chains not needed on AWD's in NSW. Still, 40 bucks is a sweet deal for chains.

      • +4

Chains aren't required by law for AWDs in NSW but that doesn't mean they aren't needed.

        • True. I've been going to the NSW snowfields religiously for the past 5 years and I can think of 1 time when they would have been required. It was on Guthega Rd, which they don't plough.

    *Gear

  • Agreed, what's with typing 'gears'?

    • +5

Heaps of people unintentionally and unnecessarily pluralise. 'Myers' is the one I hate most.

      • +2

Ironically, the one that I'm always correcting is 'Aldis'

        • @cornbeef: Not quite following this one, sorry. Work is too draining :(

        • @mick123: some people take the s off the end of Woolworths, argggh :)

The Aldi snow gear is alright if you're planning on a quick trip of a night or two, perhaps some snow-play or tobogganing… But, this gear won't cut it for the die-hards who get up early to ride first chairs, then keep on shredding until they call last lifts…

Their gear is alright, but it doesn't release moisture very well, so you sweat a bit. If you can put up with that, then knock yourself out and snap up a bargain.

I can't comment on the recent gear but I used an Aldi ski jacket for a whole season in Chamonix and with no issues at all. That's a pretty hard core ski area to play in..

I've never found anything that really works well when you're sweating a lot and long since abandoned Goretex etc. I simply use a vapour-wicking undershirt and then layer from there with basic T-shirts and fleeces etc.

My wife is a ski instructor and has to use certain brands depending on the resort but defaults to Aldi (or Quechua, A French cheap outdoor outfit) for general ski pants, glasses, gloves etc. She prefers a nice label for the jacket but that's vanity speaking really.

Everyone varies but it's important not to have too much on in the first place to prevent much of the overheating. As for thermals etc I can honestly say that they got used more when bumming around town than on the slopes.

    • I found the premium jacket to be amazing, much better than the older Aldi stuff I had purchased. I'll be using it multiple times this season and very confident it will do the job.

  • is this ferntree gully?

  • Right in time for the Dees supporters.

Does anyone know of stores in Melbourne that have stock? Specially in the east

  • Saw at Wollies Thornleigh (NSW) today their snow gear is 1/2 price, so could be another option to check.

  • can anyone report on stock levels in Kippax-Holt Or Belconnen - ACT? Need a pair of ski pants. $24.99 seems a good buy.

  • Anyone seen any stock still around in Melbournes East ? Mainly after Mens boots.
