Hmm, i like the idea of promoting metabox etc with their upgrades, but every other metabox retailer offers the same, so its not really like its a deal…But you are getting something.
Metabox offer something every few months anyway.

  • +1

Yes that's correct. Metabox do a new promotion every month and all the resellers promote the same deal.
At Kong computers we also offer free ground shipping and no PayPal fees when ordering, saving you a further 1.5%.

    Cheers

This might help. You can add the "Leadtek Winfast gold DTV dong" for just $49.

  • Hey Rep, are the keyboard issues fixed for W740SU? Lots of people mention keyboard flex and unregistered keystrokes.

    • Hi Settler,
At this stage I have not had any questions or complaints about the W740SU keyboard, but in saying that the W740SU is a new model to the Metabox range. I have only sold a handful of them so far.
I just shot an email over to the support guys at Metabox to check with them about any issues and/or fixes with the keyboard. I will reply again soon when Metabox reply to me.

I have noted that the CPU on the current Metabox model is an upgrade on the ones used in the reviews from overseas about the W740SU made mid/late last year. So there's a chance that the latest models are improved.

      cheers
      Kris

      • Thanks. I'll be happy to hear Metabox reply. And Yes most of the reviews are on 4750HQ.

  • Hi settler,
Metabox got back to me this afternoon about the W740SU.

They said that they have looked into this issue on a few of their W740SU's in the factory and have not been able to find any of the issues reported. They also checked to see if they had received any support queries from customers in regards to the issue mentioned and none had been reported.

It also looks like the review models that they (and myself) had checked out on the web had a different version motherboard from the current Metabox one as well, also they had an Intel i7-4750HQ while Metabox now have have the i7-4760HQ CPU.

They also looked into the keyboard flex and found the keyboard to be quite sturdy and has very little flexing.

    Cheers

    • Can i ask how recent the free upgrade for the intel 7260 wifi is? I bought a w740su about a week and a half ago, i can't remember if mine has it or not, it only says 802.11ABGN / Bluetooth on the reciept. I'm not sure if this is the same thing.

      • Hi, I upgraded our site yesterday (9th July) for the new July special. So any orders from about a week ago would have had the June special.
Have you received your laptop yet or is it still getting made? Was your order placed with us?
Currently I don't have any outstanding W740SU orders.

        cheers

Hi hardcorepopcorn, if you have received your laptop.
Can you please do a brief review of the display, build and specially the keyboard if it has any typing issues.
For the build quality, it won't be premium as a MacBook air but does it look/feel good enough (like a ~1400$ laptop)?

        Thanks.

    • Thanks Rep. Can you please suggest an alternative to W740U with similar or less weight, same display size. I can comprise on CPU/GPU.

      • Hi Settler,
In the small and lightweight Metabox range there's only one 14", the W740SU.

There is also the W230SS which is 13" with similar weight(180grams heavier). http://www.kongcomputers.com/product-detail/gamers/metabox-p… It also has an option for a Gloss 3K screen. (Supplied by Samsung).

Another popular model at the moment is the W650SJ. http://www.kongcomputers.com/product-detail/gamers/metabox-a…
        It is 600grams heavier though.

Both can handle intermediate gaming and both will give you better frame rates than the W740SU.

Soon MSI will be re-introducing the GE40 model which will be lightweight (about 2kgs) with 14" screen, GTX850M, i7 quad core CPU, 8GB RAM.
        cheers

    Hi Rep,
I was wondering if the stock of the 13.3" (16:9) Full HD (1920x1080) IPS Matte LED for the W230SS has arrived yet?

      Hi Inrez,
Yes they are in stock again.
They came in early last week.

        Hi,
Thanks for your reply and I have another question, if I choose Win 8 is it installed at the factory? I am worried because I am just reading about UEFI & Secure Boot and problems not being able to use any USB thumb drives, including those created by the official Windows 7 USB/DVD Tool, to boot directly from USB.

        • +1

          Hi Inrez,
Yes the Windows OS is installed at the factory.
I will speak to Metabox about the issues that you have spoken of and get back to you.
          Cheers

          @Kong Computers:

          Hi,
Thank you for your reply, I was just trying to research installing without a dvd drive and reading about UEFI & Secure Boot on notebookreview forum (which were not specific to any Metabox by the way) had me worried.

          Thanks again.

          @inrez:

          Thanks Inrez,
Metabox said that by default they install all new operating systems with UEFI disabled. This means that there are no issues with booting from a USB or any other device.

          cheers
