Wii U Mario Kart 8 Premium Pack $179 @ Kmart

1105

I Missed out on the Skylanders Basic Pack, but Kmart took my name if anymore came in. I had a phone call today informing me that they had been told from Head Office that they could sell their Mariokart 8 Premium packs for the same price. Naturally I jumped on it. Hopefully all other Kmarts will do the same.

  • I got one from Indooroopilly this morning. They initially refused but I had them phone head office. Thanks for posting this deal :)

    • Did u get a sklander bundle or mk8 bundle ?

      • mk8 bundle

        • Ah your lucky i went last night and the kid manning the desk said they were out of mk8

  • Can the store get through to head office after 5pm though? If the store had to call them to confirm that is

    • Nope they are closed

I would call and put the Mariokart 8 pack on hold for tomorrow then you can call head office

  • I reckon all the Victorian ones are out of stock. I'll probably try again in a few days.

  • Pretty obvious that if Nintendo want to move Wii U they sell the Black 32gig version around the $200 mark and they will all get snapped up, then they can profit off games sales

Thanks all, picked up a 2nd console for the house, no issues what so ever in getting it for $179.

My local had 1 left after I got mine, probably should have put the other on layby, but il let another lucky person have it

  • I went to Warwick and they sold out the $179 Wii U Skylander bundle, they offered the substitute of the 8gb Basic Wii U and the Wii version of the Skylander pack…. I took the offer as I couldnt be bothered anymore of getting the premium Mario Kart 8 pack, although I did see a mario kart 8 premium pack on display behind the counter..

    • Did u get the Nintendol land game as well? This is what happened to me today. In the morning called ALL Kmart stores in WA and all said sold out. Saw the 3DSXL posted here for $99 then decided to ask the Kmart I walked pass. None left, then I asked what about the Wii U Mario bundle. The guy served me said yes and brought one out was about to charge $429 for it. After confirming with his manager about the substitute thingy i paid $179. So best walk in and ask the person at the counter as some on the phone could not be bothered to check at the back and say none left when there is nothing in the tiny display cabinet. Thanks OP

      • Just the Wii U 8gb basic and the Wii version of the skylander game. I asked about them including a Nintendo land but it is a no from them.

Finally got a mario kart one

Phoned my local store this morning asking for the Skylanders $179.00 bundle. The saleswoman said they were sold out but had received a bulletin about offering the Premium Mariokart 8 bundle for the same price in its place.

I asked if it could be put aside so that I could pickup at lunchtime - which she was more than happy to do. She also said I was very lucky as it was the last one that hadn't already been rainchecked.

Went in and purchased during lunch - walked out a very happy new wii-u owner :-)

Many many thanks to the OP for this, awesome bargain mate!!!

    • You are lucky. The lady served you was an honest person,

  • My Local had 3 Basics left. With the $40 game I suppose the Basic and Mariokart for extra $17 isn't too bad? Should I do it?

  • Any Sydney based people wanna sell theirs for a small profit? =P

  • My partner was lucky enough to get one this afternoon after work yay!! :)

  • Been on the phone with Kmart down geelong, no stock, they said there are 2 left in Altona if anyone is interested. not sure if they are doing the deal there.

    • I rang Altona last night and they said they were sold out…

  • I had my name down at KMart Innaloo to call if they get stock in, turns out they didn't bloody do that and the only one left in WA is in South Headland.
Really shitty they didn't call to let me know I could've got the bundle, I'm really pissed about that.

  • Mates,

I did EVERYTHING i could to get this deal honoured but sadly every roadblock that Kmart could throw at me eventually succeeded and they prevented at least one consumer from getting the bargain of the century.

It all started when I rocked up to the only Kmart store in Mackay (Mt Pleasant). I saw one skylanders Wii U console pack on the shelf, the very last one mind you, and cunningly called the store and requested it be taken off the shelf and put on 'hold' under the name of "Lenny Cooper/Koopa" (ironically one of the characters in the very game I was trying to get!). I then waltzed back into the store and requested that they substitute the sold out Skylanders for the Mario Kart console pack. Manager was called and she was all up in my face saying 'You trying to rip me off mot! You expecting me to discount $300 bucks off a console, No way mot!' (i think by mot, she meant mate). I said it was a head office prerogative and sure enough once they were called she gives in but offers the ALTERNATIVE, a shitty basic console worth nothing and the skylanders game pack (they had PLENTY of those). I backed out and left, defeated (while most of you lot have been playing the bloody game and racing around with Lenny Kooper himself, instead of me just using the bugger as a pseudonym!).

I then proceeded to call nearly every store in Victoria, happy to honour the deal but sold out of Skylanders, and conveniently, its alternative, the mario kart. Then I thought of calling my nearest store, Rockhampton (a lazy 300km away but for mario kart, and Lenny Kooper, I would drive that far). Called them buggers and they said they received no such directive from head office. It was too late to call to clarify but this is my best hope and I intend on following this up tomorrow (if there indeed is a tomorrow for this once in a lifetime deal).

    This sucks…

    Sincerely,

    Frustrated Lenny Kooper fan

    • It's just a matter of luck and tbh, I think more Skylanders stock will be coming in later on to become the new substitute.

    • Just got the last two in Rocky.

  • Anyone tried Wangaratta?

  • Anyone in S.A after one my mate has a spare one. Please note though its not $179 but its still a good price. PM me for details

    • I'm after one. How much do you sell? thx!

      • PM me :)

    • Im also keen. I cant PM you for some reason, Any change you could try and PM with details? cheers

  • any in vic im after one after being shunted over the phone by northcote kmart :( may have to wait a while.

  • Thanks OP. Persistent phone calls worked out.

  • I'm also after one if any spares in vic. Cheers.

I ended up getting one yesterday at Kmart Wynnum West. I thought its worth a try as the place is a little tucked away and no-one thinks about it. There was only one left though after mine. The guys at the counter were really good about it and the manager was also really nice. He knew of the deal. Best not to let on too much first up. Just ask for the skylanders pack, then ask for a substitution and ask for the manager. They had no basics.

Really if you can get a basic and then get the $40 credit for MK8 (plus free dl game) thats a great deal in itself. Much better than getting the sky pack. The pro inst that super. Not having to plug in a external drive is the best thing about the pro pack from what I have noticed.

  • I'm also after one if any spares in QLD. Cheers.

  • I have just rung around almost all kmart stores on the south side here in Brisbane and no one had or was willing to substitute for MK8 pack. They either said they didnt have any or offered a different substitute and some even said they were not doing that deal and they had not received any memo from head office. Good luck.

    • +1

      The substitute is the following

They offer a Wii U console and a game up to $40

If the store does not have that in stock they must offer the Mariokart 8 Premium Pack

All stores have been sent a bulletin about this offer

If you have any issues call head office and they will speak to the store.

      • -3

Yea but then the store can just say "oh, we made a mistake there was actually a hold on that item, we cannot sell it to you" lol.

  • Anyone have a spare one in act that they would like to sell?

  • Any spares in NSW? I'm willing to pay $250pp (or pickup in Sydney), $70 profit for a trip to K-Mart.

  • I have pretty much given up on this deal, having said that anyone have a spare in Vic i will buy it of you. :)

I was wondering, can you connect the new Apple time capsule to use as a external hard drive? Its next to my tv and has 3tb. So I will be happy with a basic. As I only want to play the nintendo games.

  • Has anyone else who purchased the bundle had trouble getting the free game. My MK8 in the bundle did not come with the code required. I rang nintendo support and they quoted me "kmart has been known to steal the cards out of their games" and I would have to deal with them.

    • Return the game and get another one.

    • wow this is bad,

Going to open mine as soon as im home to check!

    • I seems didn't see any code from the game as well, so what can we do?

    • Tried to return the game, but unfortunately they were all out of stock (which is to be expected). The best they could do for me at this time was refund the whole pack, but obviously I didn't want that. O well.

      • Actually you probably cant return the game itself.
Since usually the bundled games don't have a barcode and says "Not for Resale".
It was the same with the Skylander bundle, the Skylander game doesn't have a barcode.

I think this could be the case of tough luck, as its hard to go back and say you didn't get one, cuz they don't know if you are lying or not. Should have checked on the spot, and then complained and tried to get an additional discount or a game in exchange.

I have read from some places online, you maybe able to get Nintendo to manually register the game, but I think they will only give you the points but not the free game.

  • I walked into Northcote yesterday but they didn't have any Wii's at all, told me to contact Preston i ncase they had any, I was told they were also out of stock.

Slim chance, but if someone grabs an extra in Melbourne, I'd love to but it off you!

  • SA is officially sold out, damn shift work :(

  • Firend got one in SA yesterday

  • I went to the KMart near work during lunch to get the Skylanders pack but they didn't have any (not surprised).

But their 'customer notice' which was stuck on the glass case read slightly different to the one posted on OzB. Instead of saying 'happy to offer a substitute', it offered a raincheck (even though the catalogue says no rainchecks).

When I went to the Service Desk to get my raincheck, they said the item wasn't guaranteed to come in, so I'm not really holding my breathe that I'll get even the basic pack.

    • I doubt they are getting any more.. they are clearing it cause they don't sell.

      • yeah. better try to price match JB Hifi or some other retailers before the catalogue expires.

        • Went to my local BigW, Target & JB in one trip. All of them either said price was too low or it needed to be in the online catalogue to pricematch.
Also tried to get a raincheck for the $178 SL bundle & pricematch the $99 3DS-XL, but all was a no go even after showing pics & receipts.

Look on the bright side, all the money you save now will go towards discounted Wii-U premium bundles & SSB-U at Christmas/Boxing day sales. Looking forward to it.

I was lucky today and found two MK bundles at my local Kmart.
At first I was told they can't sell. But I spoke to the lady at the returns area and pointed the note that they had about the substitute item. I was then told they had none but I said I saw two at the display cabinet. So the manager came out and said they can sell those two bundles. The girl at the counter thought I wanted to buy two and took both out of the cabinet. I ended up getting both. I figured it was an awesome purchase anyway so I'm not losing at all.
I've never felt so lucky for being able to get the deal. I almost always miss out on good ones.

    • kindly sell the other to someone needs it here at cost?

    • Well done to you - was obviously meant to be.

    • Hi dm I just send you a pm.

  • Anyone in Brisbane want to sell any spare they may have?

  • +1

    Picked mine up tonight.

Quick story… Went to Glendale store last night, they had no Skylanders, 1 Mario pack left. I showed receipts, the Kmart message about substitution, the manager flat out refused. Was after 5 so wouldn't be able to verify with head office (despite all these claims that a bulletin was sent to stores). Gave my details and was told I would be called back.

Today at 3 I still hadn't heard anything, so called the customer care line and told them the story. They called the manager of the store, and came back to me saying that the manager would price match since no others in store.

Perhaps if you can't get a manager to budge, try the Customer Care peoples.
Just be nice to them even if they refuse to budge at first. No need getting angry at the workers.

  • Anyone in Melbourne have a spare they want to sell?

  • +2

Just a heads up Target at Joondalup (Perth) have a bunch of the Skylander bundles left - I called the shop last night, got them to hold one and grabbed two when I went in. Sales guy said they have 'heaps', so worth a shot if you're still keen!

    • Thanks. Did you see any 3DS XL in the display cabinet or asked if any at the back?

      • The price is no longer scanned at $99

        • all colours or just red?

    • When does the Target special finish? I thought it was yesterday?

  • I just heard Kmart Blacktown now have the Skylanders bundle back in stock again for those who put their name down for a raincheck.

    • Did they give any indication of how many they restocked? Will give them a call to get them to put one on hold for me.

  • +1

Yeah I snapped one up too. The lady I talked to the day before said she had lots of people ringing about "the deal" and that they had no Wii U bundles left whatsoever. She said they were expecting one to come in the next day.

I tried my luck the next day as I only live a 2 min drive from my local one told the staff member about the promotion, offering an alternative from the skylanders bundle for the same price, all that stuff. I showed proof, printed out a copy of the flyer and showed it to her. She said she understood and believed me, but didn't need to see any pics of the flyer or "evidence" anyway!

I told her that I came in yesterday and that they were expecting one to come in today so she checked out the back and came out with it! Was gobsmacked! Lady told me not to tell anyone and that I got it for a very good price(obviously) and that there was a limit of 1 per customer, don't know if that was true.

My advice is to actually visit the store and if you're still keen keep trying. This deal is valid as I also know others who have capitalised on this, along with some people on here. Good luck! :)

Edit: I also put my name down if they were to get any more Mario Kart or Nintendoland bundles in, will keep checking over the next few days but not getting my hopes up.

  • Any luck in kmart WA?

    • I have called majority of Kmarts in WA. There is only 1 place that has Wii U's (as of yesterday, haven't tried again today) and that is Bunbury! Way down south and they have Wii U basics and the separate Skylanders Starter Packs. No Skylanders Console so they give you the basic but no Nintendo Land. Asked bout MK8 Bundle and they said they need to sell out of the Basic's first. It's such a long drive and not really worth it in Petrol, try your luck in Target as they seem to be doing this for $189 Skylanders Bundle. Website says out of stock but lists the price at $189.

Maybe a group of you guys could get together and do a road trip, but prepare to deal with the basic consoles first ;)

Funny thing (maybe not that funny) is I asked if they had any 3DS XL's and they said they don't even stock the 3DS or DS games anymore! Sold out ages ago.

      Anyway, good luck guys.

      • Thanks not gonna bother with that.

  • Anyone on/near the Gold Coast with a spare pls PM me.
    Thanks

  • Where s the cheapest place to buy a wii u premium? I want to buy one before the free dl game offer.

    • You only need the Mario Kart 8 game to get the free dl game offer. You can still get the Skylander wii u basic bundle for $179-$189 @kmart or target plus a cheap usb flash drive for the dl game.

      • That's what I thought before I went in to jb today, the fella said if you want to be backward compatible there's and extra 2gb patch + the 5gb initial os. That's 7 out of 8gb gone before I play anything.

I know a hdd is an option, but what if a future update is more than 8gb. Then I will be screwed.

        • I think if they can't optimise the OS to fit on the basic system there are serious problems.

  • That is "kinda" correct, the Wii compatibility is in a Firmware update but if you are using any new games such as MK8 you have to update anyway as you can't launch it until you apply the update. FW 4.1 is on the MK8 disc and FW 5.0 is available via system update (download).

You may also have FW 2.0 or above on the Wii U already out of the box.

I think you have more than 1GB free after the latest 5.0 update and Nintendo wouldn't release a future update that would use up all the system space as that wouldn't make sense.

If you buy either console (8GB or 32GB) and plan to use the eshop to download games in the future you should invest in an external HD. If you plan to just use the storage for save games then you should be fine.

  • Yer I know it make sense that they should make firmware <8gb. Its just a little too close.

I intend to add a hdd to it. Beside the black look a lot better.

    • +1

Alright. Chances of getting a black premium wiiu mario kart 8 bundle for $179 @kmart is very slim. You can try using the receipt uploaded to price match elsewhere (or ask what is the best they can do if unable to match) or give in to buy 1 from Broden on Gumtree or eBay for $300+.

  • Anyone with updates on whether this is still being honoured at Brisbane/QLD locations? I only stumbled onto this today despite waiting for a great deal on a Wii U for end of financial year. Any updates on people purchasing the MK8 bundle today would be appreciated! Thanks

    • +1

I think several stores got more stock of the skylanders bundle advertised in their catalogue today so chances of the Mario kart Bundle at same price are currently slimmer than before I would think!

      • Yep, stores are being restocked.

Broden hasn't finished with this "alternative" deal just yet, Catalogue runs until the 20th of July and there are only so many Skylander Wii U consoles left in the supply chain.

  • Well I've checked my local (Launceston TAS) Kmart and unlucky for me they have TONS of stock for the regular skylanders bundle and so no MK8 bundle for me.

However I am tempted to pick it up just the same, ugh why is the premium so over priced, I just want a black console…

    • Buy a black skin off ebay then.

    • Its not so much overpriced. You just need to wait for a Premium Pack sale.
Then you will say "why is the basic so overpriced?"

Remember the Basic Pack normal price is around $299.

    • I don't care about the console colour so much as the gamepad, given that's what you would actually look at.

Ordinarily I tend to go for screens with black bezels but hopefully it won't matter on this device. Certainly, the white won't show up fingerprints as much, or dust! Could be a revelation!

In terms of the console itself, given you can pretty much use any fast USB stick, or external HDD on it there are no real advantages to the black/premium :)

      • Well i went back for the basic console @ $179, turns out though MK8 had sold out by the time i got there so I had to go to EB they were out so they called the other EB on the other side of town and I found a copy there, currently setting everything up.

While at first I was really against the white colour I'm finding specifically for the game pad that it seems quite nice and as you have pointed out its makes spotting finger prints and the like much harder. Overall I'm pleased so far.

  • On a side note, does anyone know where I can pick up a cheap official motion plus controller and nunchuck?

  • Hi,
I got one MK8. I noticed there are few skylander in KMart Nolamora-WA .

    Thanks OP.

    • Download free Super Mario Bros when register MK8 :)

  • Tried a store in Sydney but they said they have stock back in and never heard of the mario kart.
Good deal, but don't really care for Skylanders game. :(

Worth holding out for a package when yoshi or mario party comes out? Or buying this and getting games seperate?

    • just be sure you get the Marios Kart 8 free download game before end of July

    • Which stores in Sydney have the Skylanders Bundle?

  • back in stock in geelong, had a called earlier. don't want skylander thou. might hold out and see if they will run out on sunday.

    • what is the $ difference btw SL bundle and MK8 bundle?
      MK8 bundle = $179 - MK8 $57 - extra bits in premium Wii U say $40 = $82
      SL bundle = $179 - SL say $30 - NL say $40 = $100
So is it worth the wait?

  • Figtree Westfield (NSW) just sold me and my friend one each.

  • Anyone had luck in Sydney?

  • any luck in brisbane? even just the basic SL bundle at this stage.

  • Any luck in Melbourne.. will be back on the hunt this weekend :) Otherwise if someone is selling one in melbourne i'll buy it :D
