Good deal……I struggle to purchase from this mob though

    • +2

what's with the lore behind this again can ya remind me

      • +41

He took tens of millions of taxpayer dollars during COVID, even though Harvey Norman was pulling in record profits - an has been completely unapologetic about it.

He lobbied for the GST to be added to overseas online purchases to protect his own business interests.

He treats his workers and franchisees like $hit.

He treats his customers even worse (good luck dealing with them for a warranty issue).

I'm sure there's more, but that's just off the top of my head.

        • +2

          Thanks,

And yeah FK Harvey forgot about a incident with them where my dad brought a laptop, was upsold to buy this Full Product care and replacement warranty for three years with a discount.

The laptop on it I dropped it one day the glass touchscreen broke went in and said that thing we got doesn't cover that. Send it in anyway for laptop company to assess and they say it's a $600 repair for a $900 laptop lol.

What the FK is the extra warranty for then? Turns out for like a single broken USB port or something.

Couldn't get no refund or anything of that.

Self repaired it with eBay kit for like $120 which actually upgraded the laptop screen from a shitty 768p TN panel to 1080p IPS too.

          • +18

@AeymothSky: Not to defend HN but where can you get a warranty that covers damage that you have caused directly?
            Warranty, not insurance.

            • @dbz88: because the AU statuatory warranty covers basically everything now for the "reasonable lifetime of a product" (which is intangible), extended warranties are essentially useless. You are literally paying for something that you don't need to pay for. You can read more about that here: Choice.com.au

Personally, I'd also argue that the fact that they offer an extended warranty creates a reasonable expectation that the product will last the lifetime of that extended warranty, and hence you're covered under the statuatory warranty.

So, because of this, what retailers are doing now is offering these extended care plans - break it, smash it, even after 3 years and we'll replace it.

Dude tried to hard sell me one on a $250 cheap phone purchase and it was like the guy in Super Troopers - "But it's only $1 and you get all this extra cover!". He couldn't understand why I didn't want to pay it. So annoying because I just wanted to grab the phone and walk out but he made me say no like ten times before he handed it over, because they're incentivised to sell them.

That said. I dropped my phone last year and now it has a big crack in it. So maybe I should've paid the $1 :D

            • @dbz88: https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/australias-…

              https://www.mauriceblackburn.com.au/class-actions/join-a-cla…

              remember seeing this in passing.

I should signup to this as I reckon it's taking about that thing my dad got that was indeed useless.

            • @dbz88: I forgot to mention I believe I had a small issue where part of the bottom was cracked.

This was before the screen was affected.

I tried going in store before 12 months had passed since I purchased it and they say they couldn't do anything because it's still part of the 1 year manufacturer time period?!?

So after that ended and then the incident happened where I end up with cracked screen then they say that product care stuff doesn't cover shit!

Like my dad was sold onto it thinking it would cover a replacement of the device if it was damaged or atleast have it repaired etc.

But yeah turns out it does Frick all. So an extra $250 or something was spent for no reason.

        • "Poor people shouldn't be shopping at my stores"

Yet it's people without money who they target with the interest free offers

        • -1

Didn't many small, medium businesses do the same thing, at a smaller scale?

          • @eggaz: Do you mean Qantas?

            • @funnymoney: Qantas lost $2 billion dollars though. Huge difference between them and a company making money and getting a government handout on top. Sure Qantas has done shitty stuff, but they weren't making money and needed government assistance.

            • @funnymoney: In general, I've heard of small business taking advsntage of the hand outs the government were providing, even when they were not needed. The point im making is Harvey Norman arent alone. Indont condone what they did im just adding my two cents.

          • @eggaz: I can only speak about my business. It was impossible to operate for two straight months as a tradie. I took up the offer for Job Keeper (which was taxed) for two months, and in the mean time changed industries.

I probably could have gotten away with claiming the third month, but I was making money again (nowhere as much mind you) so I didn't apply for it.

It's the only time in twenty years that I received money from the government. It gave me the opportunity to sell my debt-laden house, which (after the bank took it's cut) I was left with about $100k, and move into a different industry.

            • @RolloTomasi: Its great you were able to avail so support. There were some that genuinely needed support, and those that didnt, but took advantage of it anyway. Now we're all paying for it through extra taxes etc. It should have been managed better by the government.

4% back on HN gift cards through Macquarie… any better deals? Max card I would buy is $500 so another $20 off this price…

    • Special gift card, Amex offer gets $20 off $200 gift card. Macquarie gets $20 off a $500 gift card…

I can just imagine however having issues trying to do this in store. Wouldn’t be possible online.

      • +2

amex specials gift card is so bad, i just purchased $200 and it acts like credit card you cannot purchase anything more than the value of the card
you cannot enter them through gift card section

        • i ended up try to limit as much lose as possible
          this is what i did,
add 2 switch zelda, 1 switch 2 bundle, add delivery
purchase harvey norman egift card $500x1 $100x1 $75x1
that way when pay the amex special gift card the remianing balance of $198.93
          i only lost $$1.07

  • +34

I got it on 36 months interest free equal payments. WINNING!!!!

    The GO MasterCard has a $10.95 monthly fee. 766 + (10.95 * 36) - 76.60 = $1083.60. I wouldn't call that a bargain, let alone "WINNING!!!!"

$766 with the $76.60 credit is a good deal, but not if you do it on Latitude finance.

    • +5

Explains why they were at hn.

    • Lol wtf kinda finance is bundled with a $11p/m credit card?

    • +1

It's infuriating that they can sell this as "interest free" credit, and then as you rightly point out it actually costs you 36*10.95=$394.20.

If a loan costs you $400 then that is the interest - it's misleading advertising to call it by a different name and claim the loan is "interest free".

      • For lower value transactions (under $750) over 36 months the annual fee is an effective interest rate over 30%. You'd be better off buying a Switch 2 on a low interest credit card and paying it off over 3 years.

  • +9

Could also order Switch 2 console only, then put the 10% gift card at $69.60 towards Mario Kart World if you want physical rather than a digital copy. Works out to be $48.40 for the physical then. Actually cheaper than the bundle with digital, coming to $744.40 for console + physical rather than $766 for console + digital.
Unless you'd prefer to put the 10% towards a different Switch 2 game.

    • +1

But would only have 1 game not 2.

      • +3

This is assuming you have a preference for physical, rather than a digital and one other physical switch 2. Just another option is all.
Plus, I wouldn't do this if you want to play day 1. HN can definitely drag their feet issuing gift cards. This is for those who can wait. I can wait, and play Zelda in the mean time.

    • +5

Thanks for the math. Good point. If there’s one game I want digital, it’s Mario Kart. Typically, anyway.

      • +3

Yeah for sure, something you'd be unlikely to ever sell and have access to always.

        • +3

Exactly, traded in my physical MK on Switch and bought it digital. Was sick of putting in the cart so frequently. 😂

          • @Pratty: I'm cooked i have 19 game cartridges and it is so annoying replacing them all the time - especially with having ADHD and not deciding on what game to play 🥲 I would just sell them all and buy digital but you save so much money by being able to sell after you're done with the game (but are you really done after you beat it though?) I did get the mario kart bundle for switch 2 though as i play it often enough like you do so good to free the cart slot for another game - and also get a nice discount at the same time

            • @ThatNintendoKid: Once the security is circumvented it'll be on the SD card anyway 😉 😉

    • +1

      thank you bb-ron

    • I like this ideia but maybe there is a flaw: what if they don't have switch games (or mk world) for sell on day one. You will have the console but no game.

    • Bundle is still a better value deal though isn't it?

    • -2

I heard Switch 2 Cards don't actually have the game on them, they are basically physical download keys. Physical games have been more or less eliminated on Switch 2

  • +3

the temp gift card will be available for only one month after issuing. Be careful.
Also, when will the gc be provided ?

    • +1

I've always received the GC at the time when collecting my order, although sometimes I've had to remind them about it! Never redeemed this offer with delivery though.

Just buy a switch 2 game with it in the first month, easy.

    • +1

I still remember the Tears of the Kingdom HN gift card issue here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/772916?page=1#comment
Took just over 2 weeks to get back then for some of us.
Hopefully you get it on collection, but I wouldn't guarantee its not delayed in some way.

      • +1

Waiting for two weeks or more is terrible, at that point they're clearly hoping you forget or lose it in your spam folder.

  • +1

This (or using 10% off gift cards at officeworks or JB) seem to be the best deals, do I buy now or HODL?
I don't need to have it on launch day, but I'm thinking availability could be limited post launch, I think demand will be strong despite the price.

    • +1

And that's why I had at one point, 3 pre-orders.

I went into EB Games today to cancel one of my preorders, and they told me 'if you cancel this pre-order now, and make another one, now, you won't get it at launch, we're "pre-sold out".'.

I wouldn't HODL if I wanted it day 1, you're right, you don't need it, but if you 'want' it within the first 6 months, may as well organise it now, might be a pain later.

      • +2

I saw EB pre-orders seemed to sell out quite quickly!

It's interesting that Officeworks are allowing 2 per customer, I wonder if they have more stock allocated or just no one knows they sell Nintendo hardware?

I'll keep procrastinating for now and save the money, at least until I see a sharper deal, maybe 🤞

        • +1

Eb games probably got a lot more pre-orders because they accept trades too.
I placed my pre-order with eb games because I want a launch version (lowest firmare possible) and I have a bunch of stuff I want to trade in that wouldn't be worth the effort of selling online.

          • @Originality: does that mean you keep it at the lowest firmware even if the games always prompts you to update the firmware or is it because you wanted the verson 1 hardware?

            • @RQNinja: I want the lowest firmware for jailbreaking/tinkering.
If you want to play a newer game, they usually force updates or you cant play them.

              • @Originality: forgive me if i got this logic wrong. but once it is jailbroken and you want to play a new game. how do you upgrade it then?

                • @RQNinja: I wait till there's a jailbreak on the newer firmware or method that allows me to play games on lower firmware.
But I don't really intend on using it to play switch games, if I do I would buy a 2nd switch to play and update legitimately. I just enjoy the tinkering side of tech.

But usually you want the first versions because the firmware and hardware are more likely to have exploits.
Like the first switch releases had unpatchable hardware related exploits.

        • I’m sure westfarmers have some pulling power across their brands and got a decent allocation

        • +1

EBGames sold out because they only required a $50 deposit. Everywhere else is in stock.

        • Still available at my local store in Sydney online

    • +2

Throw EB games back in the mix, you can use the 10% off cards to make installments.
Better than HN getting your money.

      • I'll keep an look out, cheers. Which gift cards do I need to watch out for though? The TCN cards aren't valid at EB from what I could see.

*edit, Ultimate gift cards is what I'm looking for I believe.

        • +1

You are right, i thought the TCN kids could be used there but I was wrong. It would have to be the ultimate cards then.

        • +1

Macquarie also do 7% off eb games gift cards

      • +1

This is what I’ve done. Bit more effort running to woolies but its more accessible for me at pick up time.

  • +4

I think this is the best deal? You're getting the bundle for $689.40, sort of, you're out $766, but if you're getting any of the other games at launch it makes sense. Most of the new games aren't out at launch, but getting Donkey Kong for $31.40. $791.40 for a two game bundle… I'm nearly talking myself into this.

I just don't want to risk not getting the product after day 1, and considering I have a preorder already, will have to bow out I think, but great value

  • Thank you OP.

  • Does anyone know if I can use the gift card on a pre-order? I would like to put it against Donkey Kong as it releases just over a month after the console release. The gift card will expire if I wait until DK is actually out.

    • I’d say you will likely be able to, unless it has some weird T&Cs. Exactly like how we can use a gift card now to purchase a pre order. They take the money when we put through the order.

  • Ty, got the console only one, not really into mario kart.

have not receive the gift card, I guess it will be sent out when release?

    • +1

also just realize the gift card if perfect for buying the new pro controller

      • +2

Or, preorder the controller as well and get 10% back (in gift cards) on that as well!

Also, $119.95 for a Switch 2 Pro Controller!? Why do you hurt me like this Nintendo?

        • Bonus gift card is only when spending over $500

          • +1

@D1Vad: Or get the 8bitdo hall effect controller.

    • +1

Why would you expect the giftcard before you even collect the order?

  • +1

Just bought the bundle using bupa life 3% gift cards. Better than nothing. I'm hoping to sell the Mario kart download code as well and maybe grab a price matched physical game using the 76 gift card.

    • thats a lot of work. were you able to claim multiple hn gift cards for this order. how much would you try to sell the download code off?

      • Yes. $500 + $250 gift card brought the price down $22. The physical game is $110, so I guess selling a code would go for $90 to $100 around here.

        • Would it not have been cheaper if you bought the 696$ console only without Mario kart then use the voucher which is 69$ to buy the game that you wanted?

  • how much do you get for the $696 one, or is this better?

  • +1

Hold off, they’re making these deals already…

  • +1

I just ordered but there is no proof on order about the 10% cashback on giftcard.

    • Thanks for mentioning, I took a screenshot of my checkout page and the current promotional pages just incase.

EDIT: The order confirmation email I got has it listed

  • I am hesitant to order the switch 2 now, it's just… too greedy imo…

    • +1

All western countries over the COVID period from 2020 to 2024 created more $$$ than any other period. Almost 1/5th of ALL USD that exist were created in 2020, that's what inflation is, the watering down of the $.

Aus government did the same shit. These "higher prices" (they aren't actually higher, your $ is just worth less) are here to stay.

      • The key reason we're feeling the pain is that our pay (in general) hasn't risen to keep up with inflation. So everything seems more expensive because it actually is, in relative terms.

  • +5

Move aside, THE professionals are here. I hope Gerry won’t impose tariffs on all us professionals. IYKYK 😂

  • +2

700 for just the console, and then 10% back makes 630, which is what I paid via Sanity.

Question now is, do I order through HN as well and try to feel more secure, or leave my faith in a store that doesn't have any stores anymore?

And to think, I really thought I'd sit this one out. I'm such a whore.

  • +2

For everyone preordering this get ready to fight for that gift card. The Invoice doesn't have it on there. You are entitled to it according to the terms and conditions.

    • +4

It's plastered all over the ordering page and even in the HN order confirmation email I received so I'm not too worried about this.

    • +2

The order confirmation email has it in bright red text. Take a few screenshots of the promo page too for certainty.

    • +1

the gift card will get automatically issued once you pickup your switch via email

  • Already got the emulator.

  • Anyone tried price beat/match with JB?

    • Jb is like 3 bucks more, why not try price match using costco or kogans price?

  • Ended up ordering this. With BUPA and Macquarie both having limited denominations for discounted gift cards I had to leave a little on the card for the future.

Funnily enough I wanted to preorder from EB since they're pretty reliable with launch day deliveries (vs HN in the past has been late), the EB site wouldn't let me preorder because I cancelled my previous Switch 2 preorder to get the tax invoice date closer to launch day (and my overseas flight date).

Fingers crossed I get pick up at my local HN in time for my flight a few days after launch!

    • When you bring the switch 2 for TRS, are you bringing the whole box, or just the console to show the officer is ok?

      • Only intending to bring the console inside the case. No need to bring everything else.
