    • Can someone explain to me a bit more about TRS and what happens if the item exceeds $900?

      / Q3 on the PIC?

Does it mean trs only claimable Under 900$ value of item if you bring it back

      • Well it means you might get taxed upon it when you come back into the country. The Switch 2 alone (and even a couple of games) shouldn't exceed the threshold where you have to declare >$1k of goods upon coming back into the country.

        • i see.

as i just got back a trip and was warned by the officer as the $2k iphone i brought back was definitely over that and they were saying i could get fined too but since i didn't know they were letting me off the hook.

  • Is it possible to use HN gift cards to buy Nintendo gift cards?

    • +1

      No, that’s too professional

  • Wow nice, thanks! Going to have to cancel my EB Games Pre-order now. Wonder how that's going to work since I used a gift card.
Shame Harvey Norman's games themselves are on the pricier side compared to Big W.

Speaking of things to use with the gift card, does anyone know when the heck Australia is going to have MicroSD Express cards available anywhere? 😅

    • +1

HN price matches, i just get them to price match OW etc.

    • +2

So tempted to cancel my EB games pre order but i was able to make use of warranty in terms of joycon drift very well at EB Games, there's no way i'd be able to explain an issue like that to someone at harvey norman 😅

      • I've been incredibly lucky and hadn't had any drift problems on mine, but then again I play mostly JRPG's and the like that aren't hammering the thumbstick and buttons :P

I just looked at what the Switch 2 Joycons cost.. yikes!

      • is Harvey Norman return policy really that bad?

      • +1

HN tech staff arent boomers haha, we will 100% help replace a product for stick drift!

  • +2

Nice deal, just don’t be surprised if they don’t have your console available on launch day if their software preorders are anything to go by.

    • That’s what worries me too but hopefully I’m not out too long.

    • Speaking to staff in store they weren't confident it'd be here on launch day but would call me ASAP. Fingers crossed though.

      • +1

we haven’t got any info yet about guaranteed stock however historically we haven’t had many delays.

        • I just placed my preorder for MK bundle, accessories and DK bananza. Since DK Bananza will be available in July, will I be able to pick up my console first around launch day? And later for the DK game. Or it will be very disappointed to pick up everything in JULY.

          • +1

@jsssdoit: you can definitely pick up the console when it arrives.

  • Thanks. Bought one! Hopefully I can get it on 5th June.

  • -6

So I guess we're not boycotting Nintendo on OzB

    • +5

      Why would we?

      • +1

he is probably reading too many American posts online…

  • Can I cancel a pre-order through Harvey Norman? I'm so tempted to jump at this, has there been a better deal than this yet?

    • I'm hoping I can… I realised I accidentally ordered the non MK bundle.

      • +2

Went into store and was able to change the order to the MK bundle (topped up the $70 difference), and the staff assured me the 10% back in gift cards promotion would still apply.

    • +1

      you definitely can

      • +1

I ordered an hour ago, and got the order confirmation email like usual.

But 5 mins ago I another email saying this:

"Your order is currently delayed. You’ll receive an update as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience"

Is this a normal HVN email for a pre-order?

        • +2

yes, there is a generic message for pre-orders however they just checked the generic backorder box. dont stress.

          • @HardlyNormal: Thanks for this, am I correct in saying the “back order” is really a standard “preorder” confirmation email as Harvey Norman doesn’t issue preorder emails? I have the same back order sms and email notifications after the initial order confirmation email was sent last night after purchasing.

      • Do you know of any issues using the emailed gift card online, for a pre order eg. Another game?

        • +5

only issue is the gift card gets sent around a couple hours after you have taken the console

          • @HardlyNormal: Ok great. No problem at all, as long as I can just it online to pre order another game?

          • @HardlyNormal: Ah, good to know. I was planning to pick up another game/accessory with it when I picked up the console on the 5th, but I guess I'll do it the next day in that case knowing this. Cheers.

            • +3

@Stoibs: you could also buy the game while you are there, come back when you have the gift card and use it/get refunded back.

    Im not supporting nintendos greed

    • +2

Nintendo—which has a history of selling its consoles at a profit when its competitors may not—is expected to sell every Switch 2 console at launch for a loss. That's the belief of one analyst, who estimated the total bill of materials cost for the Switch 2 to be $400 USD. The system launches in June, priced at $450 USD.

Their hardware is very reasonably priced. Locally, their first party titles are priced cheaper than what Sony and Microsoft are charging.

Everyone whinging about big bad greedy Nintendo should just not buy Nintendo products and move on with their lives.

      • Really wish this agenda didn't spread so far on the internet.

    • +2

      Yet Nvidea is fine? Ok.

    • +1

It’s not greed. Their games are cheaper than Sony and Xbox. Their console is priced the same/similar and has come out years later in a cost of living crisis. Hell, Sony’s kart racer on the PS3 cost $120 at JB 15 years ago and Mario Kart World is still going to be cheaper than that! Also, their kart racer, ModNation Racers, sucked so bad! I honestly don’t get the greed accusation. Is it their voice video chat that’s free for the first year but a subscription fee after that? Is it the unknown price of Switch 2 game upgrades?

    • +4

Not to dogpile or anything, but it's worth noting that other than Japan we actually have some of the best pricing on both the Console and the games worldwide when looking at comparison lists that have been posted around the place.

It's your money, but as a nation that has traditionally been screwed on game pricing for the last ~30 years this is a refreshing win for us.

  • -4

this is a deal aye? lol

    • -1

I had already pre-ordered with JB, and I tried to get them to match the offer just now, but they wouldn't, so I cancelled.

Are you suggesting people just keep their pre-order with JB and hope for the best that they get a gift card on release day?

    • Which stores do you know?

    • Fun Fact - not in your T&C’s
exclusions apply for Cashback offers and store credits
Also that comment should absolutely be taken down for being against the store rep code of conduct

  • Is Kogan stock grey import?

The switch 2 with Mario kart is $749 there

    • Same as costco

  • +5

Might grab one to keep on a low firmware 😎

    • +2

This is exactly why im getting in early

    • I have pre ordered four, and will likely end up keeping three. I love the modding scene. I did the same with PS5, I have a number of day one launch consoles new in box.

  • Curse you.

    Suckered me in.

  • +3

Used Macquarie gift cards for $700 of the purchase, so saved an additional $28. Better than nothing. Thanks OP.

    • Any reason you didn't use $750 worth of gift cards?

      • +1

Hassle and diminishing returns. But good point. 😂

  • Seriously considering this lol

Any coupons/ promotional codes to stack on this?

  • I still remember the days I pre-ordered a PS5 with HN, and had to wait two months to deal with HN customer service multiple times to finally get the console. I wonder if the 10% off is worth the hassle, let alone the fact that it's an HN gift card, which is only valid for one month.

    • Oh god…

    • long gone are the days of waiting months for a console after launch

    • Sony had a massive lack of stock at the time of launch of the PS5. There was a chance of this everywhere, especially if you pre-ordered later. If I remember rightly, the stock shortage didn't sort itself out for about a year after release.

Not exactly exclusive to Harvey Norman, or their fault, unless they were aware they'd not receive stock and made false claims of launch day delivery anyway.

  • +2

Ended up doing it. I don't think there will be a much better deal before release.

    • +1

Me too for the same reason.

  • +1

Does anyone know how the gift card would get sent out if we do delivery? Reading a lot of the comments and they are saying the gift cards gets emailed after collecting in store so I'm assuming it will also be emailed out after a delivery confirmation.

    • +1

Emailed as the product leaves our store

      • Hey @HardlyNormal Does price matching void the promo?

        • Nope, gift card is head office funded so the selling price is irrelevant.

          • @HardlyNormal: Ok, just tried and denied. Asked online chat as well and denied. Oh well. Thanks anyways

            • +1

@4892: what were you trying to price match?

              • @HardlyNormal: Assume Costco?

              • @HardlyNormal: Epson Printer. They did the price match no problem. Printer had the banner and everything but no GC with it.

                Wasn't Costco match.

  • +4

If it was any other store I would go with this deal but I would rather pay full price then go with Harvey Norman , they have screwed me over so many times with pre orders in the past that I would rather eat a whole full grown raw dead rat then deal with them again.

  • +1

I went to my local Harvey Norman and preordered a Mario Kart bundle, the chap there was saying that consoles were exempt from the 10% gift card thing but was happy to honour it when I showed him the link through here. Perhaps it’s only meant for online orders but it’s on my receipt so should be fine. At worst I’ll just take a refund.

    • +1

That staff member is 100% wrong, there is no exclusions anywhere for switch.

      • +1

He said consoles and Optus deals were the only two things exempt. <shrug>

        • +1

Consoles used to be exempt but arent anymore, Optus Plans are

  • +1

is it legal to make the gift card only have a 1 month expiry? i wonder if this one falls under the promotion exclusion on the ACCC site https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/advertising-and-promotions…

  • +2

Got a "Hi "***"! Your order is currently delayed. You’ll receive an update as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience"

HN reasoning : Occasionally we need to back-order products when we run out of stock. We are sorry if this has caused you any inconvenience. Guess they ran out of pre-order allocations and my batch will be delayed for pickup?

Basically Pre-order is set to "backorder" status, not sure if this is across the board for all HN preorders but thought id bring it up since i was able to pre-order this morning and people can still Pre-Order right now. Not sure if others that pre-ordered yesterday got the same "Backorder" message

  • Will there be better deals later if I decide to not jump the pre-order bandwagon and wait it out?

    • if you're willing to wait, the cheapest deals will probably come in the form of people importing japanese versions. might be some similar sales to this for black friday and new years. depends how happy nintendo is with sales. i predict sales will be lower than they initially thought due to lack of killer games on launch. just a hunch, though

  • +1

So qn for anyone that has an idea (I do not).
With previous gens the first batch have essentially provided the best opportunity to chip/mod etc. Do we feel this will be the same with the switch 2?
