AOC All-in-One 21.5” Full HD Android PC - $279 + postage @ COTD

50

So I picked this model of monitor a couple months ago when they were $249 (catch of the day had them at that price as did MSY so I just picked it up from MSY).

They're an awesome Monitor with IPS and the touch screen is perfect for pairing with my Surface Pro 2. I use 2x external monitors at home and so I've been looking around to get a second matching model of this, but unfortunately the prices have all been back up at their over-inflated (approx $400) levels.

Finally they've come back down, though not as much as previously…

If anyone can find one at the same price in store, let me know!

I picked this model of monitor a couple months ago when they were $249

So this is $30 more (plus postage).
Why is this a bargain? Is it discounted?

    • +3

Well it's not the $400 that its been floating around at for the last 2-3 months whilst I've been looking to purchase a second one… So it's getting back to bargain status.

Sure it's not the cheapest it's ever been, but it's definitely back in the realms of a good deal.

Well it's not the $400 that its been floating around at for the last 2-3 months

Then you should post that in the description to justify why you posted this deal…

"I've been looking around to get a second matching model of this, but unfortunately the prices have all been back up at their over-inflated levels."

I'll update to include what that inflated price is though.

    • Monitor?. It's more like an over sized android tablet computer.

      • Bit of both really. Depends how you use it.

Personally I found the android side only really useful if it was a stand alone unit in a kitchen or something that kids could use.

I personally use it paired with my windows 8 tablet, so it generally gets used as an external touch screen monitor for myself.

    • $269 at shoppingexress 8pm-9pm (20 units available)

  • For about $50 total cost (adaptor, cables etc) you can connect your Android device to any HDMI TV port and have whatever sized screen that is (assuming your purpose is just to get Android video on a big screen).

    • +3

The purpose of this monitor is to have a touch screen monitor. The android secondary interface is an extra bonus if you ever use it. At least that's my opinion and have I've used my existing one.

Plenty of cheaper ways to get android on a tv.

      • Can you detail 'cheaper ways' please. :-) Connecting my Galaxy Tab to a TV requires a $40 adaptor, but if there are cheaper ways….

        • Sorry I think we might have crossed wires a little.

I was saying there are cheaper ways than buying an android AIO to get android on a TV.

If you specifically want your Galaxy Tab to hook up to the TV, yes a $40 adapter is definately the cheapest way to go about it.

But there are also other options like Android TV Sticks: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2GB-8G-RK3188-Quad-Core-TV-Dongle…

  • capacitive or resistive touch?

    • Capacitive…

      • Then it's basically an oversized android tablet that doubles as a touch screen computer monitor.

        • will you call the all-in-one touch screen PC a tablet?
apparently only you call it tablet.

        • Is not a tablet an "all in one touch screen computer"?. Well there you go.

It's not a PC either that would imply it has Intel x86 type processor and coding running a Microsoft Windows or Linux OS which it doesn't it runs as an Android device running an Android OS. It's an Android computer not a PC.

      • +1

The touch screen is Infrared Optical Structure. Multitouch 2 points max.

  • isnt the HP one on here a while ago a better choice/brand?

    • Was the HP one an IPS display?. If not then i'd say no.

AOC is also one of the top computer monitor manufacturers.

      • from memory it was IPS
        EDIT: there you go: http://www.warehouse1.com.au/epages/shop.sf/sece765ac47b0/?O…

        • It wasn't the HP Slate 21-K100 android IPS display AIO computer was it?. That one is on sale $299 delivered from Dick Smith. A bit over only $7 more for the HP one from Dick Smith.

          http://www.dicksmith.com.au/desktop-pcs/hp-slate-21-k100-21-…

        • that's better deal! the AOC is dual core only while quad core in HP, the HP quite smoothes if not for gaming, don't think the dual core is good enough if it's no better than Galaxy S2. Besides that the AOC screen's edge is not flat, make it very hard to touch the edge of screen.

        • yep - the $299 HP Slate 21-K100 is much better

          quad core
          newer version of Android
          optical touch screen (supposedly)

they were even 20% off during the eBay promotion

        • Well then the HP deal from Dick Smith is better. It also comes with a keyboard and mouse whereas the AOC one looks to me like it doesn't?. The added keyboard and mouse could easily make up the few dollars difference.

        • +2

It's definately a better deal if you want to use it as an AIO computer. But it doesn't have the ability to be used as an external monitor, which is a bit of a negative compared to the AOC one…

But aesthetics and internal computational power the HP makes it a pretty cool deal.

I think if you wanted to use a 21.5" as a computer monitor only then i thought you'd be able to find one cheaper than $300?.

          Here's a 21.5" IPS monitor for $154

          http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/167683_VIEWSONIC_VA2249s_L…

Edit: forgot people want to use as a touch screen monitor.

        • +1

But if you want an external TOUCH SCREEN monitor, then the AOC is pretty much the only one I've come across under $300.

Only other touch screen monitor I've come across in that price range is:
          http://shopping.scoopon.com.au/event/39242/product/dell-21-5…

And that doesn't have an IPS monitor like the AOC.

        • You've got a good point there. It depends whether you need a touch screen monitor go for the AOC 21.5" or if you don't you could go for the HP Slate 21.5". Although HP is a better brand but you lose the ability to use as a monitor.

The HP Slate 21-K100 does have a more powerful CPU and GPU.

        • +1

According to the link, the HP model does not have any HDMI or VGA inputs. Doesn't really have any outputs either so I'm not sure you can use this as a monitor.

        • This is the expired deal I was talking about: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/148633

        • You can't use the HP Slate 21.5" as a monitor.

    • the HP one cant be used as a monitor, its an AIO, can someone confirm this?

the AOC is a monitor as well.. the dilemma HP slate has a much better CPU but is useless once the cpu becomes obsolete

      • Yes the HP one is an AIO. There's no VGA, DVI or HDMI inputs.

  • Thanks for sharing OP. I'm on the lookout for a touchscreen replacement for a legacy system running WinXP with a VESA mount on the back (which this has). It won't work for me as the product link says:

Can function as touch-screen monitor for Windows PCs (Windows 8 & USB connection required)

… but given past experience with CoTD listing incorrect info, I was wondering if the box or drivers disc said otherwise?

    • Just answered this myself. The A2272PWHT product manual (PDF) says on p11 and p50 that there is non-multitouch support for XP.

EDIT - Added Windows touchscreen compatibility from manual for those who might be interested

      Operating Systems:
      * Windows 8 - Multi-Touch (2 points)
      * Windows 7 - Multi-Touch (2 points)
      * Windows Vista - Single Touch
      * Windows XP - Single Touch+Action

    • +1

Having purhased one previous and using it currently as a touch screen monitor on my windows 8 pc, yes it can be used as a touch screen monitor.

I don't know about driver compatibility with older windows xp systems though…

      EDIT:

Glad to hear you got that update! Pretty cool that it even supprts windows xp.

    • This AOC's touch screen is really hard to use from the edge because of the pop up casing. 10 times slide from the right you might get the Win8 charm bar (I remember that's the name) for once.

      • +1

Actually it's not… There is a massive space around the actual screen before touch the surrounding casing. It's both a negative and positive aspect of the design. Negative as there is a huge amount of wasted space around the screen and makes it look less sleek, positive because it does avoid this exact issue.

      • That nixes my plan to chuck one in the car like a poor man's Tesla touchscreen.

        • +1

If you're wanting to do that, you'd be wanting to take the casing off the tablet anyway! So you could probably bypass this!

          Food for though…

Though I'd probably look at the HP linked earlier if you want a dedicated android unit in the car of this size. Or alternatively get a 7-10" tablet…

        • Should have probably clarified that my need for one of these for a legacy system is completely unrelated to the car.

I personally think the 17" Tesla screen is too large and I really don't like screen light in the cabin when driving through roo territory. Shoulda made my sarcasm in the above post more obvious :)

All the same, thanks for the suggestion re screen size. Prior to my car dying I was working on getting the eInk display from a Kobo mini outputting some data from the OBD. Will probably continue the project shortly.
