The Story (speculation on my behalf)

One could assume that there is a story behind this as I have seen this on eBay in other countries recently and my assumption is that it’s an effort to drive top line sales and bring the stock price back up due to eBay's challenges in 2014:

Ebay’s stock price was recently at a 52 week low at US$48.06 and has been on a consistent decline since 2014. There are several factors that have influenced this (not in order of impact):

  1. The recent security issue/alerts;
  2. Departure of some key executives;
  3. The infighting with investor Carl Icahn;
  4. Alibaba IPO around the corner with Alibaba posing a real threat to Ebay;
  5. Amazon consistent strength and expansion (they’ll be here next year!);
(perhaps 4&5 should have Australian retail worried too!)
  6. Google Search algorithm changes resulting in lower rankings for ebay listings;
  7. Shut down of eBay Now - same day service;
  8. Some other undisclosed events (speculation).

Either way, I’m happy to support them this weekend and I’ll be buying up on Sunday !!!

The Instructions

  1. Proceed to Ebay Checkout Page: Checkout: Review order
  2. Enter coupon code in redemption code box (bottom right) and press apply
  3. Press Continue and pay with paypal
  4. Verify in the paypal screen/system that the discount was applied before you complete your order.

Hint: If you are buying multiple items then make sure the currencies of the items are the same because you will only get one shot at this coupon.

Please let us know what you are going to buy and share your bargains below please.

    • I recommend buying a gift card instead of a desktop PC from ebay. Main reason is the best bargains you will get are on Ozbargain advertised by computer shops, so if you want to maximise savings, get $500 worth of gift cards and then spend it on the bargains posted here!

Cant think of anything to buy right now.

But, be assured that on the Monday after the sale, I will remember/need to buy something that will be $50+

    Bwaaahahahaah

  • Can someone verify the "AU" url condition?

For most products, they can appear on .com and .com.au

All I do, is manually ad ".au" after ".com" and the product page still works. Is this all I should need to do? Will there be a way to know we'll get the discount before we buy?

  • What's this I hear about a 25% coupon?..

    • -1

Meh my guess is trolling. Apparently some (well, one I've read so far) less frequent ebay users got an email.

      • More than one person got that code and if you read properly, the comments said eBay frequency is not relevant. It seems to be a random promotion.

        • 75 sold in 24 hours for VISA Gift Card $200.00.

It's a big day for the shop runners.

eBay's fees leave me with less profit than fees per sale…

  • AUCTION: $1000 in Australian legal tender

  • Interesting to see in Ebay Sale Page for an office chair has a lesser price of $60 once you click to the image and went to the actual item. Coincidence ?

  • Anyone have a good suggestion for a decently powerful laptop under & 1k that is already a good price before the discount?

    • Something like this?

$699 would be a very tempting price.

      • Shame about the resolution (1366x768).

Any suggestion for a 1080 laptop?

The Inspiron 15 5000 goes down to $898

        • Looks good!! Hmm better screen would be nice yes

  • +1

I'm sorry if this has been asked but I couldn't find any info.

How do you get the 15% code?
How do you get the 25% code? Is this one just to selected user emails?

  • So, If I buy on ebay 3 of the $200 gifegift cards for $614.85 it will only cost me $522.63 and I can cash them out somewhere for $600 making a profit of $92.23.

So, where do I cash them out? (And is there a fee?)

EDIT: Oh, I see. So maybe best to buy petrol or an something from Apple with the giftcards.

    • +1

Hi. can you tell me what you mean by your edit comment? I just want to know as I am planning to buy visa prepaid cards. Thanks

  • +1

Make sure to buy from trusted sellers.

I won an auction from a seller who has 8 positive feedbacks, but the seller refused to honour the deal & refunded the amount.
And now he has 1 negative feedback.

    • -6

probably woulda done the same thing if sold for too low
eBay's TOS cant force me to sell something at a price i don't like lol.

      • Troll. But just in case you're for real, you should google no reserve auction…

      Such a tease.

  • Not sure how to claim the 15% off, probably have to wait til tomorrow or something. If I do get it, I'm going to buy a dash cam. That will save you $ in the long run.

  • Where are these codes?

    • On the carousel of your eBay homepage when you log in. http://imgur.com/skKdQ6H

It's almost like a taunt… "come at me, bro!"

  • +2

So, to confirm, I can buy something from a US seller, as long as it's through eBay.com.au?…or aren't we 100% on that yet.

    • +1

Yes, check your URL bar to see if you're still on .com.au.

  • +3

where will u get the code?

    • It will be listed in this post and also will be visible on eBay homepage and t&c section. This is how the other recent eBay deals worked. Expecting this to appear on Sunday morning sometime.

  • +1

Just a question…. Definition a "transaction" On ebay you can add a few things to your shopping cart. If I add two things two my cart from different sellers and make the checkout through Paypal is that considered one transaction?

    • I could be wrong, but I don't think you can buy from two different sellers in one transaction. You can however but multiple items from a single seller in one transaction.

      • You definitely can. I have two items in my cart from two different sellers and I can pay for both at once if I want to.

Whether it stays that way we'll find out soon.

  • Anyone else not getting that banner on ebay homepage?

    • +5

Saw it after pausing AdBlock plugin on Chrome.

      • +1

Yes got it now, you legend!

        • +1

I see the banner but no codes.

        • This Sunday 22/6

  • It looks like ebay has added a new page available at deals.ebay.com.au

    http://deals.ebay.com.au/#sunday

    Description:
On eBay, sundays are a big deal From 10am to midnight AEST you'll see why. Find a big range of new & used items, handpicked & on sale.
Make space in your schedule for Big Sundays

I'm guessing this may be a recurring promotion and it's not just this Sunday!?

    • So it is NOT 15% off everything?

      • Yeap. Safe to assume it is not off everything. It may only apply to select sellers and items.

        I guess we'll know next 2 days..

        • It is of anything purchased on Sunday from au URL. This deal will not disappoint but you will need to be fast because i would not be surprised that the Max coupons are claimed within 30 minutes.

        • x40 transactions per/s .au..see ya soon :D

        • To compare Amazon does 426 items per second in peak periods. Avg. items per sale guess for Amazon is 1.5 so they were doing 284 transactions per second in the leadup to last Christmas. All the action will be in the first hour. I'm sure there will be news re this breaking records for most transactions per second in the first hour (for eBay AU). I hope it holds up because I want my 15% off !!! My items are already lined up and ready to go.

        • So its another Catch?

        • one would hope ebay has better servers than COTD

      • +1

The offer entitles you to a 15% discount off the total purchase price (total purchase value of $50 or more) on one transaction on eBay.com.au during the Offer Period.

So this is everything on eBay.com.au purchased and paid for during offer period subject to you being quick…

So it will be a BIG Sunday…I'm really interested in how their systems will hold up. I'm sure it will be highest number of transactions per hour eBay Australia has ever seen and OzBargainers will be a big part of this.

        • As @scrimshaw stated above the ebay pages states that it is 15% off a range of handpicked and on sale items…so suffice to say these items will have inflated prices and then you get 15% off…just like Dick Smith advertised high prices these last few days and then gave you 20% off..but only on these stated items…But we can only wait and see….I mean anyone buying an item today on Ebay with a buy-it-now would wait till tomorrow wouldn't they….

    • Its confirmed from their fb page 15% off any purchases on ebay.com.au coupon will be released on their fb and website at 10am AEST.

  • Yes we hope it's not one-off, otherwise pretty novel opportunity ebay dropping fees for Sunday.

  • May have already asked, can I buy multiple items to use the code multiple time?

    • The coupon code can be used for 1 transaction per person during the Offer Period. If the transaction has multiple items, it'll still apply.

      • +1

In that case I cannot buy from multiple seller because eBay is not like other online store they have many seller I cannot add them all to one cart and make one payment.

        • There is an add to cart button on some listings. You can see your cart by hitting http://cart.payments.ebay.com.au/

This lets you check out multiple items even if they come from different sellers. Maybe it works, maybe it wont…

  • +3

should i take the risk and buy $600 worth of visa cards?

    • +3

      what could possibly go wrong

      • -1

        Getting lost in transit?

    • [loss] of $15 after 60 000th coupon entered would be disconcerting. :0
Though likely cleared OOS well beforehand.

    • @abracadabra. If you look at previous comments, alot of people have the same idea so you better get in quick if you want visa cards. I would recommend having a backup purchase incase they sell out quick.

  • +1

It appears that you have to buy/commit to buy, before you will know whether you get the coupon discount or not? What do others think? I would like to buy something but only if I can get the 15% off. Is this a risk??

    • Good question.

Apparently Ebay are going to state somewhere on their site when the coupons are running low.

My guess it there'll be a counter showing how many coupons are left or have been used.

Best idea imo is to be one of the first buyers, so there's no element of risk. That's what I plan to do tomorrow anyways.

  • So this is looking more like "selected items" by them? Is that the case?
Like those group buy deals etc that are mostly very average?

So this deal is nothing if that is the case.

    • +1

Its confirmed from their fb page 15% off any purchases on ebay.com.au coupon will be released on their fb and website at 10am AEST.

  • +3

Farouttttttttt. Sitting here, waiting for 10:01. Too bad it starts tomorrow. JEEESUS!

    • I start work at 6AM and get up at 5AM. I'll be watching this like a hawk…mwuhuhahahahahaha!

  • +2

I'm guessing that the way it works (or rather, I'm hoping that this is how it works) is that you have to apply for a unique coupon code through a page or link on their site. Then you use that coupon at checkout at your leisure (until midnight expiry). That way, you will know for sure if the coupons are low or if you missed out altogether.

    • +1

That would be a great way of mechanics for this offer and I hope eBay reads this. I'm afraid it may be more like one coupon for everyone and a mass race to redeem your coupon which will work once only. I would want to make sure my eBay account is linked to my PayPal account which you can do in Account-> PayPal. There is a reference to this in the T&Cs. I'm sure they want to prevent a repeat from TGG offer where some people reportly used the coupon six or more times (in true OzBargain style).

  • Two quick questions that I have:
It says that both paypal and ebay need to be under same email. I've been using two different emails for years, and they are linked on ebay for me fees. Should I make another paypal just incase?

Also it says ebay Australia url only. Im buying something of ebay UK ending tomorrow, but as long as I put the item number through ebay Australia, would this count?

    Cheers

    • +1

First question: Yes, highly recommended. See above post.
Second question: Worth a try but unlikely. I'm guessing that Posts To must say Australia and item must show up when you search on eBay Australia.

Both points are referred to in T&Cs so I think they would have covered this situation.

    • +1

Can't you just add your eBay email address to your Paypal account? If I recall, paypal allows up to 8 email addresses on one account.

    • Or Can't you just change you ebay email to the paypal email? at least that's what I just did.

      • Yes, that works as well.

  • How / when do we get our coupon?

    • +1

It will appear on their website homepage and t&c page before the offer period starts. This is how it worked for the past TGG and DSE offers. You can also check back here but I'm sure someone will spot it first on eBay au.

      • Its confirmed from their fb page 15% off any purchases on ebay.com.au coupon will be released on their fb and website at 10am AEST.

  • Are you going to know that you've got the discount before you commit to the purchase?

    • +2

      Yes and No.

Ensure to use add to cart on your desktop. This will work better for multiple item purchases than app or mobile version.

You will see a discount in ebay after you applied the coupon on eBay checkout.

Then when it takes you to PayPal ensure the discount is still there on the left section of the screen. And if it is then you are good to go and you know it works, but only if you can still see it applied in PayPal. This part is very important.

  • So can I buy something that's ending today and pay for it via paypal tomorrow when the deal is on?

    • That's a great question. According to the t&cs it is a no but I see most ozbargainers did just that with the eftpos gift cards so there's a good chance this works for items purchased in advance but paid during offer period. At your own "risk".

  • Anyones experiencing ebays shopping cart is broken?

    • Just had the same problem then went back and added items again ans they appeared again in cart. So cart still working for me.

  • If i buy gift card worth 600 Dollar and its standard shipping, does pay pal covers if its lost in transit. Just worried about shipping of Gift cards ..Any idea?

    • Odds are gift cards of that value will be usually sent by a secure satchel by TNT who have a security vault for items like yours with drives that have full CCTV.

If it's a reputable seller they would take no chances with a $600 piece of plastic so full tracking etc.

You'll probably receive it. Just make sure as soon as you do to check the gift card number on their official website to make sure the balance is really $600 not $60 like I've been done before.

  • It might sound greedy. But I already have an eBay account, can I create a new one to buy the Asus T100?

    • You can have as many ebay accounts as you want but you can only have one paypal account.

      • +1

i will be creating new paypal and ebay accounts under my wife's name. Is that okay, but same address?

        • Yes, should be no problem. But I would make sure PayPal account is verified until tomorrow.

        • that's okay then considering I haven't open my account yet

    • I have added an Email address to my existing paypal account and when I try to sign up with the added email address, it says the email address is registered. So I would assume that once you add a new email to the existing paypal which has the same email as the Ebay's account, it will still work.

  • These have to be items with a location of "on ebay.com.au" so it rules out getting anything really cheap from O/S sent from the looks of it.

  • where have all the $200 eftpos giftcards gone? do they subtract from sellers stock if added to someones cart?

    • No

      • well all the $200 have mysteriously vanished. highest denomination now is $100 ($103.50 total) so those looking to buy $600s worth will have to pay about $10 extra.

        • +1

I think people with the limited offer 25% off coupons bought them all.

  • It says off the checkout price, does the $50 include postage? Or is it the item only?

I am eyeing something for $38 with $15 postage, so would the coupon work in this instance?

    • Postage is part of checkout. Checkout is total price

  • -1

I wonder what happens if you purchase something over $666.67..will you still receive the $100?

    • Yes it's max $100.
