The Story (speculation on my behalf)

One could assume that there is a story behind this as I have seen this on eBay in other countries recently and my assumption is that it’s an effort to drive top line sales and bring the stock price back up due to eBay's challenges in 2014:

Ebay’s stock price was recently at a 52 week low at US$48.06 and has been on a consistent decline since 2014. There are several factors that have influenced this (not in order of impact):

  1. The recent security issue/alerts;
  2. Departure of some key executives;
  3. The infighting with investor Carl Icahn;
  4. Alibaba IPO around the corner with Alibaba posing a real threat to Ebay;
  5. Amazon consistent strength and expansion (they’ll be here next year!);
    (perhaps 4&5 should have Australian retail worried too!)
  6. Google Search algorithm changes resulting in lower rankings for ebay listings;
  7. Shut down of eBay Now - same day service;
  8. Some other undisclosed events (speculation).

Either way, I’m happy to support them this weekend and I’ll be buying up on Sunday !!!

The Instructions

  1. Proceed to Ebay Checkout Page: Checkout: Review order
  2. Enter coupon code in redemption code box (bottom right) and press apply
  3. Press Continue and pay with paypal
  4. Verify in the paypal screen/system that the discount was applied before you complete your order.

Hint: If you are buying multiple items then make sure the currencies of the items are the same because you will only get one shot at this coupon.

Please let us know what you are going to buy and share your bargains below please.

Start adding product(s) to your watchlists today and enjoy!

Will the professionals crash the site?

If you do the math then this is a potential $6 000 000 spend from eBay!

  • Just tried to buy some toner, got to the Paypal checkout page and was told that the Redemption code can no longer be used - it's been maxxed out!

    • +1

      Wow, I guess I saved by not buying anything I actually need.
      Will be on the lookout for next week, in case eBay does something like this again.

      • yeah didn't bother either, saved about 200 bucks :P

      • +1

        There is no way this is going to repeated anytime soon. If anything it will be x% selected sellers as we have seen with TGG and DSE but not sitewide such as this offer. It would be costing them too much money to repeat this year. They are in their second quarter now which would be slow and business always picks up for them in Q3 and especially Q4 so I don't think you'll see anything like this again soon.

    • I think it's still working. I just paid after I saw your comment and it still worked
      "You saved AU $11.75 on this purchase" from a $78 purchase.

        KOOL. So, maybe give the deal/OP a Positive Vote?

        • Just did :)

        • Just did :)

          Good one!

        • Why are you insisting on everyone to give a positive vote. Something smells fishy and it ain't fish…

        • Perhaps he/she really wants to see it reach 2000 positive votes?

        • Perhaps he/she really wants to see it reach 2000 positive votes?

          No, I don't care about the number of votes.

          I just think it is nice to show some appreciation if one benefits from a deal posting.

        • Because it makes sense to upvote the deal if you benefit from it, unfortunately with most deals people who take advantage of them don't do this.

    • Just tried to buy some toner, got to the Paypal checkout page and was told that the Redemption code can no longer be used - it's been maxxed out!

      Are you sure about that?

      They posted on their Facebook page only 7 mimutes ago, that:-

      "Hey Sherry, we will be updating customers on the eBay homepage when the coupon starts running low. But for now there are still plenty available"

  • Got myself a Canon 700D :) the kit was $679, just enough to get the full $100 saving.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331239791741

    $10 more than the cheapest AU stock, but this one (supposedly) comes with a 2 year Canon warranty, vs. a 1 year warranty from the eBay seller.

  • Is anyone has experience with lg hbs730 bluetooth headphones I am looking to buy for my lg tv it will pair directly to the tv( no adapter needed) just want
    To know the quality to watch movies.
    Thanks in advance

  • damn… I made 3 different transactions and the discount was only applied to the first one.

    Even though ebay showed a discount was applied when I confirmed payment with paypal.

    My paypal-linked-credit card was charged full amount whereas ebay showed the discount was applied??

    anyone else do more than one purchase from different sellers?

    • Call PayPal I had the same issue and the will refund the 15%.

    • There's only an entitlement to 1 transaction per ebay account according to the T&Cs.

      The coupon code can be used for 1 transaction per person during the Offer Period.

      • I called paypal and managed to get a 20% discount refunded into my account haha :)

    Picked up a Samsung Galaxy S5 4G 32GB G900I for $665 delivered woot!

      • +2

        32GB 5S will not be close to that price. And then there's the lack of expandable storage. He can add a 64GB class 10 card for about $40, bringing it to 96GB. How much would an equivalently sized 5S cost?

        I'm still waiting for Apple to release a phone with an HD screen, much less a Full HD screen. LG have breached even that as well with a 2K screen. Apple is about 3 screen generations behind.

      Oh, that looks good. Just throw in fresh fruit (strawberries etc.) and some cream.

      I used to have a similar machine. So good (the ice cream and the machine).

    • They're pretty good and easy to get good results. I don't know why they talk up icecream on all tthese cooking shows when these machines do all the work.

    Also how do we tell how many of the 60,000 coupons are remaining or if there are any still available before purchasing?

  • Would this work if I make a "Best Offer" first and the seller accepts?

    • +1

      Would this work if I make a "Best Offer" first and the seller accepts?

      Yup, can't see why not.

      • It did this with my offer today (Item RRP $1499, on sale for $999 and offered $900, was accepted so I actually paid $800). But I first contacted the seller to see if they were watching their sales. (If they do not accept within the sale period, then you cannot get your 15% if they accepted this on Monday).
        My seller came straight back to me saying that if I make my offer then, they would come straight back with acceptance or counter offer.
        Don't want to be in the middle of an offer that locks you out of going for something else in this deal.

      • does it work on second hand items

        • does it work on second hand items

          Yes.

    I want the Wi-Fi and extra features this offers over the Mk1 so I'd prefer to spend more to get that. Any other cheaper alternatives I should be looking out for?

    • +2

      Best value for money camera you can get. MK1 should be sub $400 with the coupon. But since you want the extra features, that's still a nice buy.

      • Cheers, buying that along with G710+ keyboard :)

        • +1

    • Have you entered discount code on checkout ?, If so check on your confirmation email. You're buy confirmation should still show full price but look at the breakdown, 15% of the total price is paid by Ebay.

      • yeah. my confirmation email shows the discount but my paypal transactions are full priced? is that normal

        • Yeah that's normal, the seller needs to get invoice for the full amount. Ebay pays the 15% discount.

          It's in the front page, there should be a table for the full amount then another table under it with the discounts. You should look at how much money is being drawn out of your cc/bank acc

    • +1

      Log in to PayPal and look at the specific transaction details. Then look for "Funding Source". You will find you only paid 85% with a 15% discount from eBay.

      The full amount is shown because that is what is going to the seller.

      • +1

        oh righto! thanks!!

    • +1

      So if you check your paypal transaction you would see you have incoming fund from Ebay which is 15% of your total purchase.

      Common guys, 5 neg votes on this comment till now. another 1995 votes to make it 2000.

  • Just to some quick questions. It would be greatly appreciated if they can be answered.

    1. So I can purchase from and international seller in a foreign currency, as long as I order through ebay.com.au?

    2. On the T&C it states, "Your eBay.com.au and PayPal accounts must be registered under the same email address". The email address I use for eBay is added to my PP account, however it is not marked as the primary one. Will this matter?

    Thanks for your time

    • +1

      1 = yes if transaction is made on eBay Au
      2 = suggest you link your eBay and PayPal account which is a function in eBay Account settings and you will not have any problems.

      • Thanks DRB!

        Also, a big thank you to the OP!

  • Picked up http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PHILIPS-Sound-Bar-Speaker-with-Su…

    $199 down to $121.73 - 15% = 103.50 with free delivery, pretty good! Sound quality probably won't be amazing but should suffice for a second tv

    • I bought one a couple of weeks ago (for $123) for my bedroom… the 'surround' sound takes a bit of getting used to, but all-in-all I'm pretty happy with it.

  • looks like the limit for items bought at the same time is 13?
    I had 30 items in my shopping cart, but anymore than that and ebay wanted to split it into multiple transactions.

  • Bought i7 4770k approx $300 saved $55. Sweet. Totally forgot about about this today.

    Adding cash back is also handy on top of the 15%

    Current cash back offers I know of are from
    * Olympus via Olympus AU
    * Asus via powerbuy
    * Dell Printer Cash back (trade to save)

    I have personally received cash back from all three.

    For Olympus cashback just make sure it is from an approved AU seller and that you receive a tax invoice.

    • I'm hoping the same works for me. I bought an Olympus 45mm f1.8 lens earlier through an approved AU seller - hopefully there won't be any issues with the cashback.

      Thanks OP!

      • Which seller was it?

        • DigiDirect :)

        • Any others besides Digidirect?

        • DigiDirect no problems. They are great and bought from them too earlier. Then lens is fantastic by the way and great value for money. Good choice.

        • It's a fantastic price and the reviews are great. Glad to hear it!

    • Nikon also has a cash back promo until the end of the month, but not entirely sure of the details (has to be from an AU registered seller I think but could be wrong).
