  • "We believe NewsgroupDirect is the best usenet provider in the world. We provide you with the fastest, most reliable usenet experience in the industry."

Amazing price. But their claims are delusional.

$275ea!!! As if anyone would have ever paid that price. Average provider. Gave my block account away to a mate. Good price but doesn't tempt me. $30/tb is usually their cheapest.

  • I wish I was on a 3TB ISP plan. Sadly I only have 200GB per month to play with.

You don’t need a 3TB plan from your ISP. You could have a 1GB plan for all it matters. This gives you 3TB of usenet data to play with. I only use about 1TB per year. I am on a 200GB per month plan too.
NGD are not the best provider by any means, they apply DMCA take downs straight away. I use them as my primary, with 1TB Astra block account as back up and have had no issues.
If you use something like Sickbeard/NZBdrone and Couchpotato, or DOGnzb’s watchlist, then you can get things straight away anyway and beat take downs.

      • I use Usenext at the moment (their cheapest 30GB plan). Is this better?

        • Better in what way? Price for usage, or availability of downloads?
Is your plan 30GB per day/week/month/decade? If so how much is it costing you?

        • Not sure, it's 30GB a month I'm assuming but when you run out, you just press recharge and you get another 30GB. You also get unlimited downloads at a slower speed if you want. Costs me about $110 a year I think.

        • For Usenext service as I have no idea about them or their back end.
As for pricing, that is expensive, and no doubt you have to pay for the extra 30GB
For $110 per year you are getting 30GB per month. This deal is a block account, so it last as long as it takes to use it, there is no time limit. Let’s say you used it in a year, then it has cost you USD $80 and provided 256Gb per month. So obviously better value.
If you only used 30GB per month, then this deal will last you 8.5 years.

Either way as you don’t download a ton, then you’re better off with a block account. Although like me you should have two block accounts to make sure you can get what you need. So a cheap basic one like this great deal, and a more expensive backup smaller block account from a provider that has better retention. I use Astra, but I know Tweaknews is highly rated and ignores DMCAs.

So Astra always good to go?

        • +1

Between the two, there is nothing I haven’t gotten. I have seen many posts on Reddit by people that have issues with them though. An equal amount have no issue. So basically like any product/service.

  • I use thundernews as my main and NGD block for extras. This combo has worked well for years with sickbeard/couch potato.

But the last month or so, have issues trying to complete series that are not fresh, even using EU servers.

So just a heads up on these providers. Seems fine for anything fresh though.

    • I use thundernews and found that fresh series are harder to find especially big bang th**ry and 24
