  • Can anyone comment on this chipset? AMD 690E + SB600

Are these any good? what's this equivalent to Intel?

    • SB600 is a southbridge chipset that would compare to the ICHx series from Intel. It handles the I/O of the system (USB, SATA, etc). It's widely used so there's strong driver support and good compatibility with it.

The 690E is very similar to the popular 690G but designed for integrated/embedded systems like this. Wikipedia suggests it replaces analogue out (RGB/VGA) for two digital (DVI/HDMI) outputs, which quite frankly means very little in the scheme of things.

Overall it is a solid platform and for $499 it will handle a lot more than you'd think.

  • Good deal, wonder how it compares to the Atom, I'd guess a lot better.. the video chipset (x1200) should easily handle 1080p playback - I have an x1250 in my HTPC and it has no issues.

    • CPU is Sempron 210U at 1.5Ghz. Not much info I can find on the net about the performance of this thing, but at $499 with everything included it's still a very good price.

  • Good value for a nettop. The price I would hope most nettops would be. If only these came with a decent HD decoding chip and a DVD/BR drive!

  • This thing doesn't have an optical drive for CD/DVD viewing. But anyway, you can always buy an external one, around $100 I think.

  • Sounds like a great deal!

  • Nice one!

  • coupon code has been fixed :)

  • Free shipping too? :)

  • semperon has a fair bit more grunt than a atom, and nice graphics for a cheap unit. If it had DVI or HDMI I would have grabbed one

In fairness to the potential buyers, here are some slightly more unbiased/accurate breakdown figures courtesy of Staticice:
      - XP Home OEM - $105
      - 18.5" LCD - $150
      - So therefore the cost of the 'system' would be around $244.

Your store even has the XP Home OEM listed for $105 (not $150 - 190 as per your post! :)) - http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/index.php?cPath=218_221

A Cnet.com.au review of the BenQ nScreen i91:
    http://www.cnet.com.au/benq-nscreen-i91-339296442.htm

Mentions a 1863 PCMark points and 303 3DMark points score.

In relation, an MSI Wind Top AE1900 got a score of 1604, while an Asus Eee Box B206 scored a 1585, and a "standard" Asus Eee Box through PCMark05 scored a woeful 1,335.

So it seems to be the "best" of these low powered devices but not sure whether it has enough "grunt" to do HD.

    • Probably not much point to play true-HD content (eg. 1080p) on this setup, given that the native res of this screen being "1366 x 768". Whilst the screen may be able to upscale, though it will look pixelated given that it is not being displayed at the natively supported resolution.

x1200 onboard video has hardware mpeg4/x264 so cpu is almost irrelevant
