Got this ages ago when I got my Nexus 4, my preferred keyboard. The predictive text affords me to type like a spastic and pretty much spell every word wrong.

YES! I Knew I shouldn't buy Swiftkey with my free amazon coins. Was waiting for it to go on sale to buy it so this is even better.

I'm finding swype a bit lackluster so will give this a go. Thanks OP!

BTW is there a reason why it has gone free? Did the company change owners? Are they trying to compete with Google? Is my soul being sold to the NSA?

    • After having tried this keyboard for a day I find that it predicts better than swype. I'm not sure the reason behind it but I'm definitely going to be using this over swype.

  • Did anybody else notice the massive amount of native advertising going on in the media about this? 6 out of the top 14 stories on AppyGeek from 6 different news outlets all talking about Swiftkey going free. I wonder how much they paid for all that?

    • Probably nothing. Swiftkey is one of the most popular Android third party app. In addition, it's coming to iOS so there are interest in both the Android and iOS camps.

People with lag and prediction problem should try disabling the trending word/phrase option.

Apparently, those who have purchased this app on Amazon can get the Premium theme on the Google Play version as long as they have the Cloud Sync feature turned on in the Amazon version.

  • Still no chinese pinyin.

I like Swiftkey for these reasons:
    - offering different themes - I find dark letters on light background easier to see
    - special characters such as ! @ etc are available via a long press
    - like the swipe right to left function to delete a previous word
    - like the swipe to minimise/hide keyboard
    - having arrow keys is useful at times

Agreed it is a little laggy but not too annoying generally

    This app has access to:
    In-app purchases
Allows the user to make purchases from within this app

    that doesn't sound promising

You can pay 99c for various "themes" (different colour schemes for the keyboard). It's pretty benign - it's not as if any of the core functionality costs anything extra.

    • As mentioned previously - it is for buying different keyboard themes (beyond those that come with the app)

I've been using it for quote a while and it was getting bad with lag etc but after updating this morning, it's really fast.

My main issue is with its prediction. If I type in letters for a long word it won't predict it at all, I have to type the whole word. Very strange. All in all, I paid for it and am happy with it for the most part.

    • That is odd as I've found the prediction to be very good. Maybe you're not being precise enough with your finger movements or something?

  • Installed and tested. Works much better than my stock Samsung keyboard.
I was just saying to the guys at work how inaccurate the android keyboard is most of the time…

  • Great freebie, but after testing it for myself, i'm sticking with the normal sammy KB.

  • Freebies deserve a + !

Swype dragon may be another one to look at

This keyboard still beats Swype. Swype is so bad its not even funny anymore

  • Don't forget Googles rules, once free always free, so this isn't going to have a price tag on it any time in future..

  • I've had swiftkey for about 12 months. It's like my old Nokia phone's GPS directions. Totally bonkers, but sort of endearing.

    Writing a text with swiftkey;

    Swipe word.
    Swiftkey suggests something completely random.
    Delete word.
    Swipe again.
Swiftkey changes it to another random word.
    Delete word.
Type word in manually. And carefully, lest swiftkey gets wind of any swiping action, and a chance to predict random words.
    Repeat.

  • This is a really good write-up about Swiftkey Flow vs Swype - I tend to agree with her on all counts: http://blog.juwlz.co.uk/2013/02/swype-vs-swiftkey-flow.html
