I purchased it previously and reckon it sucks. Much prefer the free one that comes from Google

    • +10

Have you given Swype a try yet. Default Google is ok but these keyboards are still better than what Google offers.

      • +7

Swype is now officially crap. So slow to the point of unbearable. I am using the Kii keyboard at the moment. Not perfect but better than Swiftkey and closer to the old Swype. Plus it has all the emoji characters.

      • +1

I had to go back two revisions of Swype in order for it to be quicker in response. The latest versions are unusable on at least two of my devices. This came just in time as I was about to buy it outright to see if it would be any better.

        • +1

Do you have a link for where i can get hold of older versions? Cheers

    • +9

Wow, why is this guy being downvoted to hell for stating he prefers the Google keyboard? o_O

    • +7

Have a +on me. You definitely should not be down vote d expressing your opinion

    • +5

agreed. swiftkey is laggy and sometimes unresponsive (im s3, same happened with S2), and when i switch back to the normal stock keyboard it is like i can write twice as fast and confidently in comparison.

      • +3

My experience today…. I have already uninstalled Swiftkey. It asked me as it was auto correcting words after I had manually inserted a space

    • +2

I'm on it now and it's definitely gone downhill. The accuracy and predictions are way off

    • +2

Same - paid for it and ended up deleting it and using the freebie from Google. It was laggy on my S4.

    • Yes, I agree it sucks. I've tried a lot of them and I think Nuance's FlexT9 is the best one aside from it crashing very rarely. However they've moved on and taken over Swype.

Swiftkey is shocking compared to the Samsung Stock keyboard (GS3 v4.3), Google Keyboard and Flex T9. Haven't tried Swype after it was bought out because I didn't want to pay for it when FlexT9 is so amazing. Google's a very close second and it would win if they suggested words and learnt your words rather than have to input each one manually.

Personally, if the Samsung Stock keyboard could learn your words then they would be the best ones. I can't believe how good it is especially if you use more than 2 languages, so convenient to switch between the two and you can swype everything. Goes to show what you don't know when you never use it assuming that it sucked and you couldn't swype on it.

  • +4

What are the in app payments for?

    • +3

      new keyboard themes, 99c

      • Cool neat currently a Swype user but for free I'll give them a try.

      • +6

this just poped up "by being a loyal user the premier pack is now free" nice!

        • +1

Yep. Just found this too - Premier pack is free for all existing users (presumably anybody who already owns the app).

        • I don't know why I was surprised to find this includes those who purchased through Amazon.

I got this when it was free but uninstalled and got it through Play Store (assuming Play Store will get updated more frequently). So free app and free premier pack, woohoo!

        • I bought the tablet version way back, but didn't get this popup. Did you sign in to SwiftKey cloud? Maybe it's only for purchasers of the non tablet version..

        • There's no popup. Just go into the theme shop and look for the Packs section. Premium pack will be free.

        • Hmm, ok. Mine still shows a price for it..
          You bought the non-tablet version?

        • Oh, you've got the old, old tablet one? I thought they merged the two into a single app a while ago… that would explain it.

        • Yeh they did, still had to download via the tablet link though as thats the one I paid for before the merge. Became the same app though.

Guess tablet users just not loyal enough :)

    • +25

      Buy a vowel etc

  • +2

They deliberately excludes Chinese for god-knows-what reason. I also tried Swype but it turns out to be a resource hog. Currently using Google pinyin and I gotta say it's as good as a free app could be.

    • Google Pinyin is probably one of the best Chinese IME out there.

GO Keyboard on the other hand is a bloody nightmare with it's additional features.

      • Agree, shame though that they only offer simplify Chinese. =(

        • Google Pinyin has a toggle for simplified and traditional Chinese. Not sure about handwriting though.

  • Google keyboard.

  • How does it compare to swype?

    • +1

The predictive text is better after you have used it for a while.

    • +2

I can't live without my Swype shortcuts, so whereas the predictions tend to be a little better I still find it slower to use than Swype in general.

      • +1

        what shortcuts do you mean?

        • +2

          Some handy gestures. For example:

Swype key to Shift: Easily change case
Swype key to 5: Get full numeric keypad
Swype key to symbol key: Get arrow keys, cut, copy, paste
Swype key to x,c,v: Cut, copy, paste

          Love 'em!

    • +1

Swype has more word suggestions. Swiftkey only has 3, and the first one is always the one you just typed unmodified, so really only 2 suggestions.

    • I hate how Swiftkey thinks it has the best word for you and doesnt let you change the prediction most of the time. I like the way Swype lets you choose words without using the backspace. but it lacks the emoji support that I really like

  • I use TouchPal. It supports Chinese, even handwriting, and a whole bunch of other languages. Works perfectly for me even on my Alcatel OneTouch (such a crappy phone, bad mistake for listening to OzBargain).

    • +5

      Please don't badmouth Lord OzBargain…

    • TouchPal has a Windows version which I tried briefly. Works like Swype and Swiftkey with swiping input.

      • I have been using touchpal for over a year now.. It's great and very responsive..

        • Is that on Android or Windows?

    • Have just started using Touchpal myself and it seems pretty good. Nice and quick and generally gets the words right. + from me for this one.

  • +2

I used Swiftkey for a long time, but am now using the Google one, which is much better if you frequently switch between languages.

    • +3

Swiftkey allows for multiple dictionaries at the same time. i.e. you can have both english/spanish/italian/what have you within the ONE SENTENCE and without having to swap dictionaries.

I only ever type in English, but I wonder how would the google one could be superior in that regard?

      • I haven't used Swiftkey for a while, so maybe it's better now. With the Google one, there is a single button to switch language. I prefer this, because it is not going to have a very high success rate for guessing words if it has three dictionaries to pick from simultaneously. Too many words mapped to the same "swype pattern".

      • This.

Swiftkey was the best keyboard I could find that allowed for multiple language dictionaries simultaneously. Bought both the tablet version and the phone version. (waaay back when)

    • +1

Swype has a pretty good multilanguage implementation (swap languages with a swipe gesture) and also support for dual languages using the one keyboard (e.g. fr/en will incorporate the dictionaries for both languages into the one layout, whether QWERTY or AZERTY), allowing you to type any word from either language.

  • best keyboard available

  • +3

Used Swiftkey for over a year now and I feel like it has gotten way worse over time (just like swype) it just can't predict words any more. Fleksy is where its at now!

    • +1

Oh yeh I remember using Fleksy a while ago. Might give it another shot. Dem big keys.

Oy yeh i remember why I stopped using Fleksy. I missed using swipe for one handed input :p

  • I've purchased this in Amazon using the free coins.
    Still a good deal!

  • Downloading… I'm sure it will be useful someday

    • Someday? I'm taking it you don't text alot (if at all)…do you really need a phone? lol

      • +11

Maybe he uses the phone for phoning?

        • +4

          You can do that??

      • +1

I use my phone a lot…. And I do text but the stock Google keyboard does a good job for me.

  • +1

Feels a bit weird after using the stock google keyboard for so long…

    • Agreed. Also that the fact that their is no vibration is hard to get use to.

      • +3

You can turn vibration on in the settings menu.

Careful, if you look at the permissions, it needs access to your email and lots of other things. With many of these free apps they sell your personal information as the product.

    • +3

The ostensible reason for accessing your email and text messages is so that it can learn your language and input style to give your better predictions. I believe Swype does the same thing.

Depends on whether you trust the app developer.

    • +3

, it needs access to your email and lots of other things.

this is standard for keyboards that 'learns' from your previously typed SMS's and emails. That is why it requires permissions to look at your Gmail posts and your SMS posts. You can choose to block these permissions using App Ops, if you have App Ops installed (look on the Play store for it).

The content is stored locally. Once you delete your appdata, it's gone.

Unless you choose the cloud sync feature in which case your data is kept on the cloud.

  • +1

If you're deciding between Swiftkey and Swype, this might help:

    (From previous ozbargainer):
Swiftkey is amazing for predicting words, if you type the letters one by one
Swype is great if you use the swyping motion when entering text.

    • and also swype has more supported languages e.g. chinese. only if swiftkey had chinese…..

    • Was that me?
Swype is also better for swyping with one hand.. while your other hand is… swyping something else.

      • Found it: This comment was what i was referring to

        • Hurray! Someone actually read my old comment :) this made my day!

For what it's worth, I'm now using the stock Google keyboard because I found Swype lagged too much and Swiftkey predictions when 'swyping' didn't quite hit the mark for me.

        • lol! Your comment had been very helpful when I was deciding which keyboard to use.
I also find that Swype lagged a lot. It freezes up my phone a lot when I was swyping.

Another issue I had was that some custom words I added to the dictionary would get deleted periodically. I never found out why…

  • Uninstalled… Took way too long to predict words when swiping. That split second delay feels bad.

    • Yeh I was wondering about that. Last time I used SwiftKey I don't remember that being present but it's bad now

  • -1

"This input method may be able to collect all the text you type, including personal data like passwords and credit card numbers……"

This is a bit too much, isn't it?

    • It's because the keyboard is designed to learn your typing habits to provide better predictions. It doesn't mean that it does store your passwords and credit card details, just that (if it were malicious) it could.

    • +3

This message appears for EVERY third party keyboard you install, it's a standard message. Doesn't matter if it's Swype, Swiftkey or SlideIt, all keyboards require access to your input data. It's more of Google's precaution rather than a guarantee that the keyboard will steal your information.

    • +3

It's a standard warning. Obviously any keyboard will be have the ability to collect anything you type.

  • I prefer Swype because of its easy copy paste function.
but swiftkey has better world prediction.

    • +3

I predict the world will end in 2099. :)

      • +1

End swiftly or an abrupt Swype?

  • +1

I actually installed and use, but I find it not that useful, especially Swiftkey auto-space IMMEDIATELY after you type a word.
While Swype only auto-space AFTER you try type another word.

This makes difference tough, cause the dictionary that I use cannot auto-complete/find the word when I use Swiftkey which auto-space after I type a word, and that's really annoying.
    So I use Swype back.

  • +1

I love this keyboard but I really wish they would add in the option to turn off Letter Pop-Ups like Swype does; when you're speed typing it makes it look ridiculous.

It's free so many time on android, when does iPhones get a go?

    • Umm.

      It is. Swiftkey Note.

If you're looking for a replacement keyboard for iPhone, you'll have to wait until iOS 8 is out.

      • Oh cheers mate, that app wasnt there last year.. So apple actually allowed this app to finally be on the App Store.

        • +2

Swiftkey Note is a note-taking app, not a replacement keyboard.

    • I believe IOS 8 is the first to allow replacement keyboards..

  • I feel like a bit of a twit. I paid for this over a month ago, but haven't used it at all because only their free beta has had the features I actually wanted.

    • +13

You rewarded a developer for their hard work - don't feel like a twit.

  • +1

    baidu input,LOL

  • wow thanks :D

  • +5

This is the best keyboard hands down

  • +2

No Japanese is what killed this keyboard for me and moved me to swype. So much easier switching language within a keyboard rather than having to actually change keyboards.

still + vote though as for English I found it to be a solid keyboard.

  • Great keyboard !! Btw anyone find scrolling between emoji's slow? im on the Nexus 5.

  • +2

No lag on my Nexus 5 using Swifkey.

    • no lag on my One M8 too. have been a paid swiftkey user for a long time. today, they gave me free theme pack.

  • hm

  • Oh yeah

  • This is my preferred keyboard albeit that I use the Legacy (ie. tablet) version. I'm not 100% sure what the difference between the newer versions are however as I'm sure you can use this on tablets.

Swype got too bloated for me after the Dragon integration.

    • They unified the phone and tablet versions. So you can use the one version on both eg. Full width on phone, compact layout on tablet.

  • I read in the email they sent me that this is now going to be free with in-app purchases.
