"Google Chrome has blocked access to www.paypal-here.com. This website has been reported as a phishing website."

    • Hmm I access it fine on Chrome but I did search paypal here on the official page and it shows this as the sign up page:
      https://apply.paypal-apac.com/here/au/step1.aspx

OP, where did you get this link?

      • -3

        works for me

        • +2

where did you get the link from?

    • +2

      From Norton 360:

      Fraudulent Web Page Blocked

      You attempted to access:
      http://www.paypal-here.com/au/en/paypal-here-card-reader-swa…

This web page is a known fraudulent web page. It is recommended that you do NOT visit this page.

      • +3

Ok that is enough for me. Seems dodgy enough as it is.

      • Nortons actually working?? lol!

If I was taking payments in person, accepting Paypal would be the very last thing I'd want.

Why would anyone want the fees and headaches of dealing with disputes/recalls and Paypal's terrible customer service when it's not an online/remote transaction?

    • +8

So they can accept credit card payments without having to have a Bank supplied card terminal and the associated fees for that service.

      • +2

Yes…. thats correct….. no monthly fee to have the terminal

      • +2

and the associated fees for that service

which can be a huge overhead for small businesses that don't do many credit card transactions.

      • +3

True. But the previous card swiper for PayPal Here was supplied free.

        • +3

*The PayPal Here triangular swiper ceased availability in 2012.

    • I agree too much hassle & 1.95% as well

      paypal or paygouge

Just wanted to add, why we love it?
we have eftpos terminal in cars but I still prefer paypal payments as it charges around $2.60/ 100 vs 5% with mobile eftpos terminal.
      Also,
It gives customers a written invoice which doesn't fade, quick one click..etc
The biggest advantage is it acts as advertisement for our business as you might forget with eftpos receipt and it can fade whereas paypal invoice has our contact details forever.

I will probably try this new way but probably after some popularity and tested.

      Regards
      VHA Silver Service

    • Are you actually accepting Paypal with this service?
Is this the same as a normal eftpos service, but instead of receiving the money in your Bank Accout, it goes onto your paypal account?

I almost bought this deal before I saw this shown in Chrome

    "Reported Phishing Website Ahead!
Google Chrome has blocked access to www.paypal-here.com. This website has been reported as a phishing website.
Phishing websites are designed to trick you into disclosing your login, password or other sensitive information by disguising themselves as other websites you may trust. Learn more"

Can someone please verify this post and the website?? because if it is legit, it is a good deal!!

    • +2

I don't think it's phishing site. Probably a false report.

The IP address the page runs on (192.69.184.188) is in an IP block belonging to PayPal.

http://www.paypal-here.com even points to PayPal site.

This is Paypal phishing! Any word or letter before or after .paypal. is a SCAM!

wait is that good or bad?

      • It's a good thing because markmonitor is a company which specializes in brand protection.
        But still…

  • Still investigating whether it's a fraudulent website. WHOIS says that the domain is owned by PayPal/eBay, however it's currently blocked by various site checkers.

Post updated — URL changed from http to https. It should show that the website is presenting an EV certificate from PayPal Inc.

These kind of things should be free from a traders perspective

    • True and paypal possibly will if a trader can prove that they would do more than 'x' amount of sales. I can see how many small businesses would stand to gain by having one of these, the convenience of buying from stalls at markets or pop up stores in supermarkets when bank operates eftpos machines would be unaffordable due to volume would far outweigh the costs.

    • +1

These kind of things should be free from a traders perspective

Try getting one for free from a bank if you're a small business owner… They expect you to pay monthly fees, transaction costs, as well as taking 2%-4% of your revenue…

  • -2

Pffffft! with the amount PayPal charges you on their freakin fees, they should pay YOU $99 to have this gizmo!

    • +3

Can you show me a cheaper merchant solution for a small business?

Pin Payments take 2.6% + 30c per transaction, and they take a week to pay you.
      https://pin.net.au/pricing

      • +1

Just signed up with pin payments for a trail.
Now this is possibly looking the better deal thought extra cost of reader plus I will need to upgrade my old phone by the looks.

    • +2

Still cheaper then the big 4 terminals

  • Hardly a special price from paypal when they offer it for £49.95 in UK.

Interesting to note that the 1.95% is much lower than the UK (2.75%) & US (2.7%…although they don't use chips…just print more money if fraud). I wonder if that is the ongoing % rate?

Either way a cool device. As mentioned it should have a display to show payment amount.

Also a real shame no tap and go. ING 5% users could have some fun with that.

  • Excellent thanks, I've been waiting for an alternative to paymate since they increased their prices.

  • +1

I have been receiving emails from the legit paypal folks about this for upcoming device for months. The expense is in the chip reader bits. More expensive to make than the old swiper (which had issues too).

For those afraid its a scam. Go to your regular paypal site and click on the business tab. You can see it there. https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/merchant

This is a great device for small businesses who dont want to sign up to long term contracts with a bank. Aside from purchase cost, no fees unless you use it. So it suits small business better that way. I've been a a paypal here business user for well over a year and I dont use it much as I mostly do cash sales, but when they don't have cash I can still make a hassle free sale and I wear the minor fee.

Paypal is the devil. They will block you for any reason, steal your money, and demand that you go through a long difficult process to get it back.

    • Yes people seems to forget pricesengine.com deals, even pcdiy was the victim of paypal merchant. Not sure if they improved but pcdiy online was out for a few years only just back on recently.

So from ozbargain, 2 businesses went out, one forever another a few years. Maybe this is worth it for small businesses…

  • Deal said expired but I was still able to claim it at $99. Not sure if that was regarding the % rate or they simply extended it.
