    Well done REP!

  • This is cheap. Are they the budget range, ala 840 (which no one buys)?

    • I know nothing about these drives but they were 'featured' here ( http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/14/06/02/2215243/crucial-… ) a few days ago so they seem to be their latest offerings and by the description given they sound like they perform well (I'll let you SSD uber enthusiasts comment of their relative performance based on the numbers quoted there)

these MX100 series of drives are still rated for 550MB/s sequential reads with 500MB/s (512GB), 330MB/s (256GB), or 150MB/s (128GB) and random read and write IOPS of 90K – 80K and 85K – 40K, respectively. The drives carry a 3-year warranty and are rated for 72TB total bytes written (TBW), which equates to 40GB written per day for 5 years. Performance-wise, these new lower cost SSDs, are on par with some of the fastest SSDs currently on the market but starting at $79.99 for the 128GB drive

Oh wow. I was about the pull the trigger on a Sandisk Ultra Plus from MSY but this post has put me in a dilemma.

I wanted to spend a little to get the 128 Sandisk to give some life back to my old computer. And it seems to have better performance against the 120 M500 being offered here.

So the only choice would be to go 256 MX100 if I want to take this deal but from a review here: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/storage/2014/06/02/crucial-… it seems that even the 512 MX100 is slower than the 256 sandisk in most things and equal in others, so we can expect slower performance from the 128 MX100 right?

I realise this will be a huge step up from my current mechanical drive but I'd still like to get the best value. What do? Please help.

    • +10

Even the slowest MX100 is still several times faster than a HDD. I wouldn't contemplate too long on what SSD to get based on reviews and benchmarks — if you want an SSD on a minimal budget, the MX100 is good enough.

    • +4

are you going to be sitting in front of your computer with a stopwatch counting your bootup times in milliseconds? can your thumb control the stopwatch with enough consistency and accuracy to record the tiny difference in times between the different SSDs? If 'yes' to all, get a sandisk. Else, get the biggest SSD your budget allows.

    • dude look at other reviews, the mx100 is faster..

  • Ripper price on these new models. Crucial are doing good work with their most recent SSDs and these are set to improve even on those.

  • +3

Great job with these SSD prices. any chance of going competitive on some of the intel NUC's like this one BOXD54250WYKH1?

    • +10

Have some interesting events coming up this Month (including NUC) - everyone interested stay sharp on our newsletter promotions.

      • Thanks

        • +2

          You are welcome :)

        • but on last deal (via email), SS Intel NUC price slightly higher than centrecom price (after deal) :) i hope this next deal can beat anyone price (for intel nuc)

        • I hope they beat Amazon pricez :D

      • +1

Great work REP, any news on the updated NUC's with N2830 to replace the N2820's yet?
Any chance of a NUC plus 256G SSD combo deal, or similar, coming up soon? Love your work..

      • Hey totally interest in some sharp prices on i3 and i5 NUCs.
        2820 not so much.

  • +7

128gb has shitty writes but the 256/512 have fine to fantastic writes

buy the 256/512, ignore women, acquire e-peen

  • How do these compare to a m500? Its similar pricing to the 240gb mSATA m500 I bought few weeks back.

  • got 256gb thankyou rep for a good deal, btw do you already have them in stock or waiting delivery?

    • +5

      Thanks~ :)
Stock is arriving our warehouse this afternoon, so the earliest we can dispatch the MX100s is tomorrow

      Cheers

      Cheers
      SE

      • Please see my PM

  • Has the MX100 256GB SSD been sold out?. The add to cart button is nowhere to be seen.

    • I just went in through the regular way… computers, storage, ssds, etc and in that list you can enter an order quantity… but then you get this message..
"Sorry. We don't have enough 'CT256MX100SSD1-SE' in stock to fulfill your order. Please change the qty on order in your shopping cart to a lower number and click update. Then try to checkout again."

BTW… just had my 4th delivery from SE and as usual, best product, good price and fast delivery!! A+

  • Missed out on the 256gb version, but managed to grab a 512mb drive. Great deal.

    • +16

managed to grab a 512mb drive

      Seems kinda small…

      • +3

Plenty of room if running win 3.11 :-)

  • +3

I'd die if I received a 512mb drive. haha. Couldn't fit much on one of them these days. Would be massive for a DOS and Windows 3.11 environment though. Survived on a 40mb hard drive back in the day.

    • Hey i once owned a 200mb HDD and before that a 20mb HDD. Plenty of room even for Win 3.11 on the 200mb drive.

      • 100m pata….

        • I once owned a floppy disk 1.44mb, beat that

        • I had a floppy 1.44mb drive.

        • My family's first PC, an IBM XT-compatible, came with 10MB hard drive on MFM (hard drive interface before PATA). Still fits a few games as they usually come in in single 360kb floppies.

        • Ahh the good old days, when you had to pray everytime you threw a disk in that it wasn't corrupt and wanting to be formatted.

Zipping files across multiple disks to transfer them from one computer to another.

        • floppy is not a hdd :(

        • true, but before consumer hard drives became available to the masses, the 160kb and 320kb discs were colloquially called 'floppies' because they were very flexible and 'hard disks' were the cutting edge rigid ones, that held 720kb of data (an early 5mb hard disk cost $1500s+ and were bigger than many modern computers, hence not very popular).

      • Remember ordering a new system once… opted for the massive 270mb hdd. They said, you will never use all that!!!! he he he

  • +3

managed to get some more stock for the SSDs, enjoy guys ~~

    Cheers

    • -1

Yes the MX100 256GB is currently back in stock.

      • +1

Did you want it on a silver platter too?

      • I've got one Ryxxi. Just deposit into my bank account and I'll post it to you.

  • nice

  • Thanks rep, ordered a 256gb unit. :)

  • So in a netshell, which is better? Crucial MX100 SSD 256GB or SanDisk Ultra Plus SSD 256GB from MSY?

    • +4

i think you mean 'in a nutshell'

well it depends on the nutshell, if you are using the crucial ssd in a pistachio nutshell and the sandisk ssd in a Macadamia nutshell, then the crucial would come out on top as the the pistachio nutshell are easier to open and then use.

if they were in a nutshell, they wouldn't work to well in a computer.

      • Thanks for the nutshell explanation. Unfortunately, no more nuts left… damn too slow!

        • I honestly think you will struggle to fit either drive inside any nutshell and think either would serve you equally poorly. Maybe a coconut husk?

  • +1

Got one thanks rep good price but Rep, rep, Reppy….
Your PayPal express checkout sucks. Still had to fill in three pages and effectively join up for no reason. V annoying.

BTW Rep, this will be going in a NUC.
Will buy that from you too if you can compete price-wise otherwise Amazon/Newegg whoever is cheapest.
You can do it Reppy, I have faith.

  • Out of stock now??

    • +2

Don't worry price on SSD seems to be going down. EOFY is coming :)

  • Seems like nothing special… Amazon is cheaper it seems…. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/147094

    • Not surprise, the US is always ahead of us :(

    • +3

Well obviously they are US dollar prices.

      US$110 for 256GB is AU$118.73 BEFORE shipping.
Nothing much in it except SE stock is here now

      • +1

Exactly - there is always better value with local stock.

  • +3

3 dollars cheaper after convertion, keep in mind the time it takes to get here and if something is wrong with the drive you have to send it back to US..
this one here AUS stock. nuff said

    • What I meant was that if you need it now grab it from SE otherwise there really need be no regrets as the same product can be had for around the same price. BTW If you shop for $150 from Amazon Us, you get free shipping to Oz… See other post…

      • +2

        Isn't that just shoes???

        • True, thanks for the clarification

    • +2

free shipping back to usa amazon.
is it free shipping if u send it back to se?

      • +1

Hmmm I was wondering about this as well. Maybe the rep can clarify whether it shipping back to Shopping Express would be refunded if there is a problem with the drive? (I doubt it nor expect that from them considering they are a small company)

      • yes free shipping back to Amazon US - done it a couple of times. Their service is first rate!!!

        • +2

Even if it wasnt their issue and I am not talking about drives but for example if you purchase the wrong size shoe or something like that do they still let you send it back for free?

        • -3

Do Amazon ever post special deals on OzB like SE does?

This is a silly question. If you make the mistake how are they or anyone obliged to offer you free returns? Is ShoppingExpress offering this?

See eastern culture comments above if anyone is keen on an objective, informed discussion….

BTW I did bite on the SE 256GB deal.

        • +1

          yes
returned the sunglasses becoz it was too small.
they paid me back the return shipping.

      • +2

One time shopping express said a certain graphics card would fit in a HP n54l. So I bought it. It didn't fit. Shopping Express apologised for the mistake (the model had recently been revised with a different heat sink) and gave me a returned postage paid label to put on the box to exchange it. Didn't cost me anything.

        • +1

Well, it was their legal obligation to do so. Good to see them playing by the rules.

        • Buyers can check online for suitability before buying also… :-)

        • +1

I know. :) but no arguments. No fuss. No trying to wriggle out of it. Their professionalism was certainly appreciated. It's too rare these days.

  • +1

Bought a Sandisk Ultra Plus 256Gb SSD from Shopping Express a number of months ago, swift service. I would definitely pay a bit more and buy from them again for a local stock as compared to the Amazon's deal.

    • Ditto… :-)

  • MX100 256GB sold out again. Must be in high demand compared to the 512GB version.

    • Missed it out as well :(

  • I'm Sad!

Sorry. We don't have enough 'CT256MX100SSD1-SE' in stock to fulfill your order. Please change the qty on order in your shopping cart to a lower number and click update. Then try to checkout again.

  • 256 is saying its out of stock

    • Though the MX100 512GB is still in stock. That's the only choice for MX100 now unless you buy the 256GB version from Amazon.

  • +1

Anyone who is up on this and has read the reviews:
Which of the various SSD deals would stack up best for outright reliability, if that metric is known yet?
As for speeds, I'm sure they will all seem amazing coming for a mechanical drive so not too concerned about that. I do tend to keep gear and find a use for it as long as possible so outright reliability is what I care about.

  • Can you do free shipping and an extra discount on this Rep?

  • Hi Rep,

512G also out of stock :(

  • Great prices Rep. Already bought Sandisk one from your last sale :(

  • +1

This new drive looks good, really good price per GB.

    AnandTech Review: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8066/crucial-mx100-256gb-512gb…

    Conclusion from the review:

"All in all, I have nothing negative to say about the MX100. With the performance and feature set, combined with pricing that basically doubles the amount of storage you get for your dollar, it's an absolute no-brainer. Unless you are an enthusiast or professional with a heavy IO workload, the MX100 is currently the drive with the best bang for the buck in the market by far."

  • Well the Crucial MX100 is obviously in high demand. Sold out within the first day.

  • ahh out of stock! wanted the 256, OP any chance of restock?

    • +1

He is going to try and get more stock today.
