MOD NOTE FROM PREVIOUS BARGAIN:

Please read the warnings about buying lock picks in Australia. It appears that it is not illegal to buy them in Australia (although you might have problem importing from overseas shops). Owning them is okay as well. However as with carrying them, you need to be either a lock smith, or be able to produce reasonable explanation, i.e. try not to carry them around.

Our note:

We provide these items legally, but you need to be aware of the law governing possession of such items. This [document] (https://www.sentencingcouncil.vic.gov.au/sites/sentencingcou…) outlines it very well, read from page 17 onwards.

We recommend using these for hobbyist/locksport purposes within your own home only and on locks you legally own but are not in use. Additionally picking your front door lock is not a smart idea as you may damage or break the lock causing extreme inconvenience.

  • Hey rep! I've been enjoying the starter set I bought from you guys, and just last week used it in the field for the first time, removing a lock that had been placed on a cabinet without permission. Felt good man :)

How does the size of the picks on the pocket set compare to the starter set? I did previously ask you guys about a smaller set of picks for smaller locks and was wondering if this might fit the bill.

    • +1

We've got some smaller sets coming in with our next order of stock, however they're smaller only in terms of thickness of the picks. It makes it a bit easier to maneuver in smaller locks.

However I'm pretty sure that you'd be after a set in which the actual features of each pick are slightly smaller — we're still trying to get these made and definitely haven't forgotten about you!

The actual size of the features on the pocket set are almost identical.

  • I have a cheapo set of picks but could never pick anything more than an old basic padlock.
Would I have better luck trying to learn with this?

    • Personally I've had much better luck than with the cheapo sets. I learnt to pick my first locks using one of those and was pretty floored by the difference between these and the SouthOrd manufactured sets that we now sell.

  • Thanks Rep,

Sure will be easier than my hacksaw blade set I made…

I requested it be sent with a tax invoice, is that possible please?

As I'll be using it for work purposes.

    • Yep, please send a request and we'll print you out a tax invoice.

Unfortunately, I dont think the ATO has an occupation code for cat burglar.

Researching these i bumped into bump keys. Seems easier than these lock picks

    • +1

arghh who am i kidding bought the intro set

    • i've also researched bump keys. for the unskilled user they can damage locks, and the success rate is hit & miss. many locks are now becoming bump proof. best to learn to pick the lock. takes a lot of time and practice but you'll be able to pick more locks than by just bumping.

also note that some locks don't even need to be picked…you can just bypass them with a sheet of mica plastic

    Thanks for the deal op!
No idea why I bought these, but I have!

over the years, i've had numerous hours of training through Sykrim, Payday and such games….i reckon i could utilise my skills in the real world ;) lol

  • So the main question on my mind is whether the intro pick set is limited to certain kinds of locks? Numbers of pins, types of barrels etc?

  • I bought a starter set in the last sale. I also grabbed the extra rubber coated handles. Is there an easy way to get them onto the picks without damaging them?

    • +2

Oh no! We normally put those on ourselves, we must have missed yours.

The answer is with great care. The best way we've found was putting the pick in a vice and from the end pushing the handle on. If you put pressure on the sides of the grip during the process it is too tight and they wont move.

    +1 for cyrpto currency options

    • Thanks! Until this sale we hadn't actually had anyone use them. Its been great to see some uptake :)

  • Procrasti-bought this - I'm in the middle of exam period at the moment and wish I had it to tinker with right now! Probably better than my order is on backorder..

"The factory is literally having to bring on more staff to fill these orders"
just for a flux of sales that will subside probably soon, do you use illegal immigrant labour?

    • +1

The labor intensive part of the process is dropping the picks into the leather pouches. Temp work agencies are fine for that sort of thing.

      Nothing shonky.

Perhaps "call in more staff" would have been better wording.

  • pickpals, the code didn't end up sticking and got charged $25.
