got 10 bucks for 100 bucks

  • I got this. Hooray 🎉

  • targeted

  • I would rather stay away from this.

Recently had an offer of $20 cashback from NAB. Went to Special giftcards. Got a GC and it didn't work at merchant end as they had generated an invalid card. Support team couldn't resolve the issue and now awaiting refund.

Do note that they dont have any support number to call. The feedback form is not that great. Chat is non existent.

Only thing is to contact to an email ID which is mentioned in terms and conditions document for any of your problems.

Im also having issue with their cards. I wasn't able to add the cards to apple pay since a month ago and hence cant use them, but refund was pretty fast and cashbacks from both cba yello and nab were still honoured so free money XD

    • That sucks dude, I did the same NAB deal and luckily it worked fine, got the gift card right away and the $20 bonus came in about a week later. Made for a cheap tank of fuel

    • I agree! I got an AMEX offer recently bought $200 DJ gift card (got $20 back). Firstly if you want to use this gift card online you have to purchase either exactly $200 worth or less. When I got Woolworth special gift card it was exactly the same. you cannot do separate payments for one transaction as for this gift card you have to enter as credit card payment. anyway DJ didn't accept this card online. I got cancelled like 5 times and given up. Special gift card team wouldn't do refund or swap to other gift card so I disputed charge via AMEX then I finally got refund. I would never take this deal again.

Just bought the Techheads and it failed at Woolworths gift cards.

    • +3

They used to have Super Shopper that can be used to purchase discounted Woolworths Gift Cards, stopped back in Feb 2024.

Tech Head's list of retailers doesn't include Woolworths.

You need Worthworths directly, though it can be used to purchase other gift cards in store at Woolworths, as Woolworths POS doesn't flag it as a GC.

      • FYI I purchased TechHeads on 30/12/2024 and converted it to Woolworths because people had suggested this in previous posts.
I would have done the same again but luckily some poor user has saved me the heartache.

    • Weird, I was able to do this a few weeks ago. I assume you mean the discounted gift card purchasing portals like via Student Edge?

      • Yeah I did it weeks ago too, but today it didn't work. (Yes the portal)

    • It used to work with Amazon as well to buy Category Choice Grocery gc. Can you try to see if you can buy Category Choice Grocery GC on Amazon?

Category Choice GC can be used at Coles and WW (can't buy GC at WW since this is the same as Active GC)

      • I bought the Uber Eats gift card with the tech head.

  • +1

Yeah always have trouble with these

  • got 10 bucks for 100 bucks

  • Tech head got jb and good guys on the list.

does this offer includes tech head?

a bit worried they might exclude these swap card

    • +6

There are no swap cards sold on the Special website. The gift cards sold on the Special website are prepaid Mastercard gift cards that can be used at selected merchants.

There are two types of Special gift cards:

      • Brand cards: prepaid Mastercard gift cards that only work at specific merchants (e.g. Woolworths, Ritchies IGA, The Good Guys, JB Hi-Fi).

      • Category cards: prepaid Mastercard gift cards that only work at specific merchant categories (e.g. Aussie Explorer, Tech Head).

The exclusions mentioned in the terms and conditions are the JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys brand cards. CommBank would be able to enforce this restriction, because (at least for the Woolworths brand card) the transaction description reported by Special to CommBank includes the name of the gift card purchased, so CommBank would have an easy time seeing which gift card you purchased. On the other hand, if you bought the Tech Head category card, it should be fine, because that is not specifically listed as an exclusion, especially since the Tech Head gift card works at more than just JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys.

      • I bought Woolworths gift card last and could not able to add Apple Pay. It’s never worked for me. Any work around?

        • I experienced the same since this year and no work around. Send them an email and they would issue a refund instantly but you get to keep the cashback

      • The Woolworths in the transaction description comes up on the statement when buying the tech head gift card.

  • Nice 10%-off from CBA

  • Ty OP!

  • +2

Got $10 off $100 and got myself a woolies card. Thanks OP for helping me fight this cost of living crisis.
Now i can buy what i used to buy for $50 two years ago for only $90 instead of $100. Winning!!

    • But how you are using this gift card? I can’t add this Woolworths gift card to my Apple Pay, I have downloaded the special app but never succeeded to add it to my Apple Pay. Last time special contact team cancelled the card.

      • I just added it to my apple pay no issue.
Maybe if you have a friend you can trust, you can add to their phone and use it when any gift card is on sale at woolies

      • Just works for me every time. I would try deleting the app, restarting the iphone then downloading the app again before asking a friend.

        • I had this happen to me consistently since this year with 3 different wws cards (i didnt try other cards so dont know if its a wws specific problem). Reinstalling the app, logout and login, restart phone didnt work. I have deleted my account altogether and will see if it works again with new registration ¯_(ツ)_/¯

      • I'm not sure about Apple Pay as I use Google but I just manually enter the card number, expiry and csv and has worked fine. No need for the app at all (thanks to a tip from some other helpful OzBargainer)

On the Special website click the card, and then Online details (or something along those lines) that pops up on the right and it will have everything you need.

i'm an everyday plus member for making 30+ eligible transactions
    no offer for me
feels like being a plus member puts me at disadvantage
since CC fees went up (month to month) last year i've been meaning to cancel

    • this is a commbank yello deal. Similar deal in Westpac rewards 10% back on spend there with a max of $10 cashback

      • commbank yello tab says i've got access to everyday plus benefits which i think is meant to increase my chance of eligibility over really yello benefits

last time i was targeted was $15 for $150 on 5th July 2024

      • how to get westpac reward?

        • if you have westpac accounts there is a rewards section on the website and app, you click on that and it will tell you the deals they are offering you. They change all the time. This is different to the rewards through Shopback….it shows them as well.

    • randomly appeared for me recently, check back if you weren't originally eligible

  • would maybe the tech head or woolies one work in the everyday rewards app to purchase gift cards?

  • Purchased a $150 Dan Murphy’s card. Nice feeling getting 10% off grog! Only downside is you have to know your balance when you’re at the checkout and tell the staff member to do a split payment for the exact amount left on the special card if the balance won’t cover the whole transaction. And it makes paying online difficult too if your balance won’t cover it all.

    • +1

If you add the card to Paypal some retailers offer split then you can split using the card and CC. I have done this.

    • Should have purchased the Woolworths one, then use it at Woolworths to purchase a Wish gift card that can used at Dan Murphy's along with BWS, Big-W, Woolworths, EG Ampol.

The convenience is that you can add the GC to Everyday Rewards, it shows balance there, use the remaining in a grocery shop.

      • Didn’t think of that. Sounds like a loophole that Woolies would have closed. Has WookieMonster commented on this situation before?

        • +1

It's possibly a mobile payment limitation in store, i.e. the system don't know it's a Special gift card when you tap, once it has gone through it's too late to reject. Being a gift card they can't do a reversal. Basically they can either accept or reject, but not conditionally reject when purchase includes gift card items.

It's a bit different than the Tech Head situation as the payment flow is different, also it was more a defect than system limitation.

          • +1

@browser: The Special card is valid for certain MCCs of which their in-store terminals use so yeh they can't really differentiate based on the items purchased (just like you can use the 711 cards at any servo because they use the fuel MCC)

I got caught out yesterday though. Had already converted card to Wish a few days before but Woolies gift card system was down, giving No Response. Could only pay by cash or card in which case the Special card would have still worked.

  • +1

Anyone got their cashback? Spent on 05/Feb, nothing yet. Strange payee shows SPECIALCARD-WOOLWORTHS ELSTERNWICK VIC, do they setup different payee corresponding to the type of gift card purchased?

Have similar offer with Amex, cashback credited on the same day, payee showing SPECIALCARD-WOOLWORTHS ELSTERNWICK.

    • +2

I haven't got the cashback yet. Last time it took a while for the cashback to show up, longer than other CommBank Yello cashbacks.

    • +1

it usually get credited after the cashback offer is over (Feb 26). I never had an issue getting it

    • +1

I haven't got the cashback as well and I purchased it on 31 Jan (14 days now). Usually, it only takes around 4 days for the cashback to be credited. It is very strange this time.

      • Me too.
Usually, it only takes around 4 days for the cashback to be credited.
I bought a $150 gift card on 31/01, but haven't received cashback yet.

        • Just checked, bought 10/2 and credited 11/2.

Wouldn't worry about it too much just yet though.

      • It's normal with Special I think. I recall it taking 3 weeks last time.

    • I'm glad I found this support group.
I purchased on 01 Feb 2025, no cashback yet.

Last time I received this deal, I purchased on 29 Nov 2024, and cashback landed 03 Dec 2024.

Hope everything is in working order.
I must admit, it hasn't been 14 business days since my purchase.

      • Finally got it today, dated 20 Feb 2025!

    • +1

      Still waiting…

      • +1

        Same.

      • If it doesn't hit my account by Friday Morning, it will be time (14 business days passed) to let them know!

      • +1

        Nothing from 31 Jan yet.

      • +1

        Cashback arrived overnight :)

        • Same. Got mine, just in the nick of time too!

  • Credit appeared this morning, though transaction date of credit is 17/Feb, took 3 business days to appear.

Typical bank processes, debit immediate, credit wait for days.

  • +1

Finally, cashback has been credited this morning, exactly 14 business days from date of purchase 31/01.

  • Got my cashback this morning too! Purchased 04/02.

  • I got it but its still on my available list. The temption to buy again is real!

  • Also works for Opal top up, sort of expected while it works for other gift cards.
