This is potentially a very dangerous book. Instructing people on illegal DIY electrical work, most likely based on American standards! There's a reason you are required to be licenced to perform this work in Australia. I wouldn't trust most people to plug in a blender, so getting them to install a power outlet is guaranteed to result in death.

haha, not totally correct… but a word of caution should definitely be exercised!

Some Laws actually encourage this !!!

    • yes you do need to be qualified, but a lot of DIY is just common sense, which means it can be learnt before getting into it!

      thanks OP!

edit: just went through the list - I've already done most of these incl. installing electrical points and I am not a tradie.

yes you do need to be qualified

This must be the book Kevin Rudd and Peter Garrett co-wrote…

        • How to insulate your attic

  • I totally agree…Just becos you have watched a few episodes of The Block, Better Homes & Gardens, The Living Room, etc…doesn't make you any more experienced in the DIY department…CAUTION here…and obviously, use common sense and logic if you are going to attempt something yourself.

  • • How to replace a faucet

    love it

  • OP could you please explain what a faucet is? Havn't heard of that word before.

      It's a water tap.

You do realize he is quoting a US-source?

      • P.S. an attic is a loft, and a backsplash is what we call a splashback.

    • fau·cet
A device by which a flow of liquid or gas from a pipe or container can be controlled; a tap.

This is a good little book for people new to, or interested in, DIY. It is not a massive reference book - think of it more as giving a few example jobs.
It has a good introduction with general advice - planning, safety, pitfalls, regulations, …
There are no details or photos, so its more a case of learning what is involved before you decide to do it.
So its a good read, but I hope no-one uses this as their sole guide to a job.

And yes, it mentions things that would horrify your mother, like replacing a faulty circuit breaker.
