    $5.00 Deposit

    Isn't that a signup fee?

    • +3

Hi Hermano. This $5 will stay on your account and you can use them to pay for shipping costs. So it is not a sign up fee, which you pay to create account and never see it again. it's money you can use later.

      • +1

After you used up your $5, will you top up the deposit with another $5, or will you leave the balance at $0?

Does Shipto have addresses in tax free states?

        • +5

Generally, once you use your $5, you will have $0 balance in your account. If you register with OzBargain, we will top up your account with $10 after sending the first package.
We have warehouses in California, Oregon (0% sales tax) and Nevada. More info about our locations can be found here: http://www.shipito.com/locations

        • +10

Ugh. That means we have to make a second order to use the $10 credit. I was hoping it would be a refund/cashback.

Mail forwarders aren't exactly cheap, and the thing that makes me reluctant to use them is that there's no reliable way to estimate how much the shipping is going to be before ordering an item, because you don't know what dimensions the box is going to be packed in by the retailer. By the time I find out the forwarding is too expensive, it's already too late. I've purchased the item and can't return it.

I'd be tempted to make one purchase if it was a $10 refund.

        • +9

what you can do with shipito is, that we will get rid of all the retail packaging in which your order comes, so we can fit the product in the smallest possible box.

Right now we are not thinking about doing $10 refunds. So yes, the $10 will go towards your next order

        • Interesting that I got downvoted for stating a reality. You guys are amusing sometimes.

      • -2

would really never use Shipto again. really bad business practice there.

        • +2

Do elaborate. I've have nothing but great service from them.

        • +1

if you lost your item on the post, you will find great difficulty to communicate with them. Also the postal calculation tool never correct ! All I can say is that Shipto has bad business practice and can't be trusted!!

        • I have used it fine. No issues.

  • +2

How the hell is the line under the freebie checkbox "Item or service is completely FREE to obtain, with zero shipping cost and no strings attached" not clear enough?
Completely free to obtain is mutually exclusive with requiring a $5 deposit. It is also mutually exclusive with requiring a purchase. Zero shipping cost is seriously obviously mutually exclusive with buying shipping for gods sake.

This seems extremely dishonest, particularly combined with above 'signup fee' issue

Please try reading the rules, and the forms you use
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:store_representative
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guidelin…

I would neg you if i had a valid reason according to the site rules, certainly will be looking elsewhere.

    • -1

I'm sorry for this misunderstanding. What you get at the end of the day, is free shipping address in USA.
I have removed the freebie tag from the post

      • +2

There is no sense in which this is free. I dont see how it is a misunderstanding, if you read the discription?
Why couldn't you just own a mistake? Playing semantics tends to get you a bad rep round here - piece of strong advice

      • +13

        I agree with others.

This is misleading. Requiring any kind of up front payment is not free.

What is worse is you people try to justify their actions when it is CLEARLY untrue. You say "What you get at the end of the day, is free shipping address in USA" which is a complete untruth. It's more like IF you pay us a $5 THEN we give you a free shipping address.

FREE DOES NOT MEAN PAY ME SOME MONEY - plain and simple.

The other bargain on the other day for ReShip TRULY gave me a free US address.

I will not be interested in Shipito now or in the future if this is how you represent yourselves.

      • +1 agreed, SHITO shoukd be removing free from tag, but should say like "get us addrss for $5, plus we will credit you $10", like the supercheapauto membership quoted below

  • +6

I have used them in the past and in my own experience they are a good shipping forwarding company. However cost of everything adds up in the end.

    • +9

we are happy for this feedback. let me inform you, that we have significantly decreased some of our fees lately. For example processing fee went from $8.50 to $1, special request fee from $8.50 to $5. This can lower the total cost of your shipment

      • +4

READ THIS before you consider using Shipito's repacking service.

The first and only time I have used Shipito was less than satisfactory. In short the REPACKING WAS NOT DONE WITH ANY CARE and I received a DAMAGED ITEM as a result. Shipito did not take any responsibility for their actions whatsoever.

I purchased a brand new car boot mat which was fairly bulky and requested Shipito to repackage in order to reduce it's size to save on the postage. I paid for the repacking fee, insurance and photos of the item. My instructions for repacking was that it be done with care and even suggested to have the item rolled instead of folded to avoid any damage. My instructions were ignored and the item was folded and repacked. The item was received with horrible creases that I was trying to avoid in the first place.

I sent several emails to Shipito to make the complaint and their response was to take it up with the courier (USPS I believe) because the insurance I paid for was to cover any shipping issues. But it is NOT the courier's fault - they did their job. Item was delivered within the time frame and the packaging did not have any external damage. It was clearly Shipito's careless repacking service that caused the damage.

        • probably due to those mexicans doing the packing that work for $5/hr, like our 457 visa workers in australia, minimum wage laws do not apply to them as they are not tecnically residents so you can pay them whatever they agree to (but i digress)

        • I have the similar problem. They don't take any responsibilities. I won't trust them again. really bad business ethic there!

      • I'll come back Shipito when you eliminate consolidation fee ($2 per package) and bankfee (4.3%), currently using Comgateway.

    • +3

I've sent tens of thousands of dollars worth with shipito and couldn't be happier with the service. They are transparent with the cost of freight, quick turnaround with any annoying requests I have and the repackaging service is solid.

      A++ would ship again.

Any chance I could get $10 off my next Shipment despite being an existing customer? I have used Shipito for about 10 months and was one of the posters to promote your service, if you check the thread dedicated to the "opposition". Thanks.

I think this will reach main page status tomorrow when Australian wake up.

    • +13

Any chance I could get $10 off my next Shipment despite being an existing customer?

I'm also an existing customer…show some love for us too would be nice.

    • +1

Another existing customer here. Only have a couple of weeks left of my annual mailbox and would love to get something back :D

    • +1

I'd also like to jump in your boat. Some love for your existing loyals please!

    • +1

Another alterative would be to give us establish members Silver Statue (you can give a few percent off one shipping method). How about that op?

    • +1 as another poster that promoted the service. Account since Jan 2010 so some love would be nice.

  • +2

I've been a Shipito customer for the last couple of years. They have been very easy to deal with and were also very helpful when there was a problem with the freight company that I chose to get the stuff from their warehouse to Australia. I don't think you'll find a cheaper US freight-forwarder.

And I always leave my balance at $0 after every transaction.

  • Thanks rep.

  • +7

During the login process you say:

Each account has to be verified. Once you login you will be able to upload your ID docs for verification.

Is this only required if the PayPal & Shipito.com customer details differ, or is this for every customer regardless?

I'm not keen on sending you copies of my passport/drivers licence, just for something like this.

    • +2

We are verifying each account to avoid frauds. There is lot of people out there with stolen credit card details and paypal accounts. you can avoid sending documents by paying with wire transfer and sending notarized form 1583

      • We are verifying each account to avoid frauds.

That's right, i don't want to give you copies of my Passport or Drivers Licence to avoid frauds once you get hacked.

BTW, when you do get hacked, and my details are misappropriated, will you know, and if so, will you advise me?

        • +1

Will you use ShipItto to buy more Tin Foil Hats?

        • -1

Well, little blue Chinese man looking slightly to the left, will you issue a suitably grovelling apology when you come back here complaining about your virtual replication around the world once the identity fraud boogie man is let loose?

    • +5

Same. Not too keen on passing over drivers licence/passport + credit card details.

      Rates look good though.

      • +2

As I mentioned above. If you do not want to submit documents, you can pay us using wire transfer

        • what is a wire transfer? how dooes it differ from eft?

        • wire transfer is payment by cash from bank. you pay a fee to your bank to do this.

not sure if western union is considered as wire transfer.

        • Main difference with Wire Transfer is that it's never refundable. With Credit Card, Paypal, etc, you can call your card provider and claim the charge is fraud and get it reversed.

With wire transfer, your money is gone.

        • +2

Bank fees usually make wire transfers unattractive

        • +1

And you get done on both ends (giggity). You get charged a fee from your bank eg ANZ is $24 for online transfer AND you get charged $US16 by shipitto for the incoming wire transfer.

        • And you get done on both ends…

Well that can be pretty uncomfortable when it happens at the same time.

eg ANZ is $24 …. AND you get charged $US16 by shipitto…

Then they can go jump cos i'm not giving them all my ID details when there's other less invasive options. A man must retain his dignity, otherwise he is nothing.

        • Not a fan of DP then?

      • Most of these forwarders ask for ID.

  • How does shipito compare to hopshopgo?

    • I've used both and found them a cheaper with their airmail service. I also like the transperancy of the pricing. HSG just hide it all in one price (or they did when I used them).

  • never mind.

  • +3

Been heaps happy with shipito. That reduced Fee from 8.50 to 1 will be handy as I usually choose that unconsolidated option.

  • +2

Good company. Used them last month and would recommend them. Everything was fairly speedy in relation to service and communication. However….

OP, can I suggest you list what particular items cannot be shipped by the couriers you use? I got caught out with my order as I had cosmetics (for the missus) and was forced to use a more expensive courier and adding to my overall shipping cost. I was only notified to this fact via email and after my order was complete and ready to ship. No mention of it on the website or when the parcel originally arrived to your warehouse.

Just think its important information to know for customers wanting to order particular products/items. I know that if I had this information at hand, I may have reconsidered ordering it as the additional cost of shipping almost made it around the same price as purchasing it locally.

    • +1

      Dear Cheepo,
you can get to this information when you are using are shipping costs calculator.
this is for example list of prohibited items to Australia

    • That's weird. Thanks for pointing that out. I wonder why that courier won't do cosmetics? I get cologne and perfume because of the aerosols (although most are just sprays with no combustable properties), but that seems vey strange to me. It's not prohibited with any other company I've ever come across.

      • Tones of thing go into cosmetics. Like cologne, whale vommit is in one high end branded fragrance as a small example of the wide variety of ingredient.

        • hopefully not from sperm whales

  • Thanks. Exactly what I was after.

Wish I could've found this link. Where is it on your website?

  • go to http://calculator.shipito.com/en/

after you select country and city click on "show available methods"
then on the left bottom corner you will see this link

  • Thanks. I'll know for next time.

  • used shipito when ordering my Neato XV-21 from amazon. They were the cheapest and were very easy to deal with. would use again.

  • I've been doing some comparisons on a 7.3lb package, 12"x12"x6", no insurance, 3 package consolidation and if needed a value of a $200.
I'm currently using MyUS.com after signing up with an AMEX card to get a 30% reduction on shipping rates and the annual fee of $60 waived.

    MyUS.com

    • MyUs.com DHL Express $66.20 (No AMEX account ($60 annual fee))
    • MyUS.com DHL Express $46.34 (with 30% AMEX account discount and annual fee is waived)

    Shipito.com

    • Shipito.com FedEx Priority $94.13
    • Shipito.com FedEx Economy $88.46
    • Shipito.com TNT Economy $71.74
    • Shipito.com USPS Priority $77.94 (incl $3 ins)

    Opas.com

    • opas.com DHL $90.74 (incl consolidation fee $10)
    • opas.com UPS Expedited $82.26 (incl consolidation fee $10)

Opas and Shipito are sales tax free whereas MyUS (7%) is not.

    • I found that the 7% sales tax with MyUS.com is the killer.

They also seem like a dishonest company - no easy way to cancel you account on their website and you can count on them charging you credit card the $60 after two years.

      • That is unfortunate that you forgot to cancel the account but I wouldn't say it makes the company seem dishonest.

I sent them an email after Unity1 reminded people via the forums and the fee was wavied again.
You could have also emailed them to claim it back after you forgot to cancel it.

As for he 7% sales tax, on the example above for a $200 purchase I am still in front for the similar service provided elsewhere.

Different situations for different people but for those currently using the AMEX deal with MyUS its clearly not probably worth changing at this stage imo.

    • I can't comment on MyUS or Opas but shipito seems to always over-quote.

    • +2

      Dear dirtybird,
you have not mentioned our TNT Express option.
      with your specifications it is
      from Oregon: $49.8
      from Torrance: $45.97

      • Are those rates just for Silver, Gold and Diamond customers.
Or are you saying that when sign up with this offer we'll be given that status on our accounts?

        http://www.shipito.com/forum/forum/14-shipito-services/1055-…

Perhaps there is more recent explanation but thats all my quick search could find from the "Founder & CEO of Shipito".

        If not, great deal.

        • +3

          Please see this screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/kQeXflH.png

          TNT Express:
Regular Customer - $49.8 (price in blue color)
Silver, Gold, Diamond - $45.82 (price below, in green color)

in other words, all customers have access to the TNT Express option

        • Ok thats pretty good.
          Thanks for your replies.

        • In my experience TNT Express is VASTLY superior to the frankly quite dodgy equivalent DHL service.

        • I've been lucky with my experiences the DHL service and 2 days from the USA or 3 days from Europe is pretty good for me.
There are times when I can't get that sort of service using national couriers.

        • I rate TNT too, and it's usually the cheapest express service too :)

My area DHL is unfortunately outsourced to a dodgy local courier mob.

      • Actually, I have another question regarding this.

Do your calculations include the cost of consolidation of 3 packages?
If not, how much would the consolidation costs have been based on the Individual Packages service or is that option not available on this meaning I would have had to send all three packages separately?

I understand if I had created a Virtual Mailbox account for the month (+$10) the consolidation would have been +$6 ($2 per package x3)
So therefore that would add another $16 to that shipment example you provided?

        Making it
        from Oregon: $65.8
        from Torrance: $61.97
        ?

        • +2

you are right with the consolidation costs. You must have virtual mailbox account ($10/month or $50/year), and consolidation is $2 per package.

    • Have you also tried comgateway?) http://www.comgateway.com/)
I've been using them for years but I'm interested to see how you think they compare

      • +1

I just did a quick calc based on your info. a 7.3lb package using www.comgateway.com would be about:
        $48 standard shipping
        $57.60 Express

Consolidation with them is free for the first 3 packages, $1 for each thereafter. They are free to setup and I have never had to send them my personal details

        • Thanks for the info.

        • I have used hopshopgo(powered by comgateway) 3 times and I have been extremely happy, but I'm open to new(cheaper) alternative options.I also have a myus.com account that I've never used. The convenience of hopshopgo is that you simply log in (and pay)using your Paypal account and if you also sign in with ebates you get cashback from most us sites plus a Paypal discount on shipping

    • -1

Your post is misleading, Shipito offers TNT Express and DHL at cheaper costs; yet you purposely excluded them from your comparison.

      • Don't be so quick to judge. The ShipItTo calculator is known to sometimes exclusive some shipping options. It happens randomly

      • -1

Have quick browse at the rest of the trail.

  • +2

"Once again, this is Shipito.com official offer just for OzBargain users"

Don't let me find out that you are offering this to others behind our backs

    • +2

      Ease up turbo.

It is a good offer of $10 cash-back for new account holders. Be thankful they have come to Ozbargain and shown some love.

Shipito are a great mail forwarder, I have been using them for a few years now. They are consistent, cheap and reliable.

      • +6

        It's a joke.

  • Hi Rep,

Im looking to send over 4 pair of shoes (runners with box, I am unsure of the dimensions), using a rough estimate whats the rough cost to ship to Melbourne? Also which warehouse do I ship it to to pay minimum tax?

    Cheers

    • hi Kwanq, for me it is difficult to estimate this. Best would be to check the dimensions and weight on amazon.com and then use our calculator to calculate shipping: http://calculator.shipito.com/en

    • +1

You can find some example shipping dimensions here,

      http://www.amazon.com/ASICS-GEL-Cumulus-Running-White-Black/…

      Product Dimensions: 13 x 9 x 5 inches; 2.5 pounds

      Then use their shipping calculator.

Best way to go would be to receive them all at your mailbox, remove the packaging and consolidate them into 1 package to be sent. You could also send them as an MPS shipment of 4 items for approx $100 via Fedex (3-4 days delivery time). << These options require the virtual mailbox option.

      http://calculator.shipito.com/en/#/

Alternatively you can ship them as individual packages via Airmal (take between 2-4 weeks from my experience) for about $25/box + the $1 handling fee per package.

Use the Oregon warehouse as no sales tax applies in Oregon.

Note however that only some online retailers charge sales tax to California addresses (generally the bigger ones), when buying your shoes try the Californian address first and see if the checkout applies sales tax. If not send to CA as they will get here a little quicker and the postage is a little bit cheaper too.

  • signed up, thanks!

  • Anyone had any experience with how much and how long it takes to get a couple blurays ?

    • Using the Airmail option my general experience is 2-4 weeks after they are shipped out from Shipito. It would not be economical to use an express service (starting around the $40/mark) unless your buying a few at once and sending them over in the one package.

      Example package via Airmail below

      34 x 23 x 3 cm, 250gr package = $5.91 from Oregon
      34 x 23 x 3 cm, 250gr package = $4.93 from California

      Plus + $1 processing fee.

  • how much competitive is the shipping cost compared to amazon shipping rate?

    • +1

If Amazon ship's direct use them, they offer fantastic shipping rates on most items.

Amazon also has a habbit of sometimes using large boxes for small items which can be expensive to forward without re-packaging.

Shipito and mail forwarders in general are particularly useful for items which do not ship to Australia directly or for consolidating multiple items into a single shipment for postage savings.

      • thanks mate..
        i think it's worth trying..

  • +1

i have used shipito in the past with good success. i have found their service to be quite prompt and the website is quite easy to use even though it looks quite crap lol. their services for taking images of your package was very good imho. would definitely recommend.

  • Signed up… thanks for the deal… now… what can I buy from the US to get significant savings?

    • +4

      A luxury car

  • Thanks OP, appreciate the offer.

I signed up using the link provided, however the affiliate ID(?) disappeared when I went through to the final stages. Added the code into the appropriate section at the bottom so hopefully it'll make sense at your end.

    Hey rep,

Is there any offer for existing customers?

  • Hi rep, do you receive and forward mail/letters/envelopes?
Do you foresee having a Florida address anytime soon?

    • Hi,
yes, we receive letters, but you have to provide notarized form 1583 to use this option.
Currently we have no plans to open warehouse in Florida

  • Is there insurance for the shipping between the warehouse to end user?
