  • lol what even! $99 sheesh. How is the processor on this thing, res seems ok. Feel like getting this for fun blah

    • Same CPU as in my phone (actually nearly identical in every spec), haven't tried games but for every thing else it has been more than fast enough. Battery life was also very good. Worth noting that the 13MP rear camera is almost guaranteed to be an 8MP interpolated to 13MP (or some such demon magic).

  • Looks good

  • android software is key to whether these devices are worth it
most of those odd brand type are confined to the android version it bundled with

    You cant upgrade.
Some brand name ones allow some update such as 4.2.1 to 4.2.4 but no great leap in android versions like 4.2.X to 4.4.X or even to 4.5

some secondary brand name devices like Lenovo or Oppo the like has continuous support, likes of cryo gen would release for a lot longer.

unless buy for newbies, who you know don't care about updates, then any will do… else, ppick something that will have longer term support.

Well, it's only $99. That puts it in the same price range, and even cheaper than the budget phones you see being sold at the Post Office and Woolies, and some of them are on Gingerbread. Can't argue with the price really.

I think the biggest concern however is whether the phone will actually turn on when you get it, or if the software is stable.

      • That's why we have you around Scrimshaw, because you are an Android expert :)

  • Idk much about smart phone, but this phone is truely smart to me and it will blow the apple out of the wood.

    • I think this thing is overrated tbh. Technology is developing so fast that I'm not sure that the different modules will be able to accommodate the rapidness. But is interesting, will definitely keep my eye on it (just not sure if it will take off).

  • 3rd party rom support?

Similar price and specs in phablet form factor from pandawill here
Quick google comes up with some links for CWM recovery and 3 roms here

Seems like they're trying to clear out their MTK6589/MTK6582 range along with the MTK6577/MTK6572 range.

    $60 iPhone 5Clone anyone?

    • That phablet looks very tempting for the price

      • yeah

  • Also this quadcore phone for US$89.99.

    • Would like to know the differences

      • +2

        Camera is 8MP vs 13MP
        Battery is 1800mah vs 2000mah
        Screen res 960x540 vs 1280x720

So the one linked by altomic is 'less'. The CPUs however are also different and if the AnTuTu screenshots are anything to go by then the one altomic linked is better performing by quite a margin. This may be a result of the lower res screen. I'm not sure if it still an issue, but it used to be that CPUs were designed to run at a certain resolution and going above it resulted in poorer performance. I know it sounds a little weird, but I believe related to the all-in-one architecture.
Or it might just be a better CPU.

Resolution is getting on the low side : 960 x 540 pixels
I don't know what that would look like on a 5" screen
Pay the extra 10 bucks and get 720p ;)

      • 960 x 540 pixels is fine on a 5" screen

        $10 for more res, hmmm.

  • I managed to get the Tengda S5 (Octo Core, 2GB/16GB, 1080p, 5/13Mpix, 2800mah) yesterday for $159.99 USD from Pandawill's happy hour..

    cant wait.. :)

    • Wow, those are some insane specs on paper!

    • nice specs, would be interested if there was a stock kitkat rom released

  • Can I trust that this really supports 900MHz 3g? Anyone have one?

  • +2

    lol

Iphone using the world's most advanced LCD…

Self artifact level up to 500 million pixels front imaging technology
Self-shoot cameras beyond the maximum 13 million post-imaging technology
    99 shooting… is super

    Shocking sound
    More realistic sound reduction

    Otherwise looks interesting…

    • haha, yeah was looking at that one too but it's very sucky specs and it would probably 60$ wasted.

      • +1

better than a lot of the coles/auspost phones for a similar price.

        • Can't beat Aussie warranty in that regard.
