Good prices but so frustrating that neither of these can receive DAB+ :( Lovin' the new Double-J and would love to have it in the car without having to stream it via mobile broadband (expensive!).

    • I agree, DAB+ would be nice.
Meanwhile, you'll just have to stream it to your 3G/LTE phone and bluetooth to the receiver.
Oh wait! this thing does not even have bluetooth. And DVD !? I barely use that at home any more, let alone on the road.

And hang on … where is the GPS?

    • I agree. It is frustrating because DAB+ would be an awesome feature to have on these.
If I were in the market I would probably be leaning more towards something like this from Repco's latest catalouge.

It has most features I would want however it is almost $200 more than the original unit in OP's post.
But like I say if I was spending the money, it would most certainly have to have the features I wanted.

As for the Navigation side of things, I believe (dont quote me on this) on some of the units you are able to plug your phone in and it shows the maps on the screen. Not an ideal situation, but you do get navigation to some extent.

      • Yep, that's the Pioneer unit I was looking at only a few days ago to try to solve this problem… but far too expensive for me these days… now that I'm old & all ;) So annoying when we all know that adding DAB+ would only cost the manufacturer an extra $10-$20.

Ah well, I'll continue to listen to MOG via 4G then Bluetooth as it isn't metered through Telstra making it one of the only reasons I stick with them.

      • DAB radio's need a different aerial, thats why they aren't popular in car audio.

        • Fair enough but there are those of us who enjoy tinkering about with such things :)

My DAB radio works fine with a simple telescopic antenna.

  • Does this fit Toyota aurion?

  • If you don't really mind about buying a refurnished one here are some Kenwood items on PicklesPlus

But they are auctions so you need some luck to get them for a very low price. And don't forget that there will be a 15% buyer's premium on top of the bid price.

  • I'm in the market for one, but the problem is installation… I want the following features:

    1. GPS
    2. Touchscreen
    3. Reverse camera

Like cvas pointed out above, repco's one looks good, except I dont know how to install it…is there anywhere where I can a) buy the unit from retailers like JB/Repco/SCA then b) pay someone to install it for me? (for a fee of course)???

If it helps my car is a 2013 outlander…

    • Replacing the head unit should be pretty easy TBH. Seriously, if you can use a screwdriver you should be able to do this yourself. I just Googled it and found a couple of US YouTube vids and apart from having to get a replacement fascia for your dash the rest looks pretty simple.

Don't be scared, give it a go yourself as you'll save a fortune and you have the satisfaction of having done it yourself (priceless). You shouldn't even need to cut wires & solder for basic swaps these days as there are adaptor plugs for everything.

      • but the thing that worries me is to install a reverse camera, and how it connects with the gps/screen…

        • Just as easy… just mount the camera, run the cable and connect it to the rear of the head unit. Annoyingly time consuming but very easy.

        • thanks mate, but problem is i dont even know where/how to run cable thru the car…I'll try find something on youtube.. :)

    • I had a sub and a monoblock installed in my Lancer a few years ago by a company called LS Audio in Hurtsville (they are open on Saturdays but do ring before heading there), they were honest and the cheapest installer I found for audio installations in Sydney to date.
Total cost including parts and labour was $150. Not sure how much they charge for a head unit replacement though.

Read about after market head unit maker called eonon but I am sceptical about them, do check their website http://www.eonon.com/ you may find it useful.

I am also looking for a GPS integrated head unit but the well known brands are way too expensive (from what I can see)

      Good luck

  • DAB Android With GPS and reverse camera Avail on ebay under $400

  • How about this one:
    https://www.soundmaster.com.au/Kenwood-DDX-4033-6.1inch-Wide…

Says not imported but AUS stock with local warranty. Price seems to b cheaper incl. shipping $286/-.
Is it (DDX4033) lower grade than DDX3035?
