The standard charger and 4x AA $14.99 here

But i highly recommend the FAST CHARGER, still available from Masters here. If anyone actually takes the $76 fairmaiden "Truck Delivery" option please add your comments on the service :)
Good rundown of why the fast charger is better here

Also available today is the TOSHIBA Canvio 750GB Portable Hard Drive $69 here

Seems reasonable, no idea if that's a great price though.

Let the eneloop craze begin again

    • +34

      And they're off!

Hands up if you've still got your eneloops from the last deal in their packaging..

      • And there's nothing wrong with that.

      • +1

Me. Wondering if I can justify buying these to dollar-cost average the last AAAs I got at $13 a pack.

      • +1

Hands up if your eneloop at still in their package from the last last last deal

      • +26

I didn't even bother picking mine up from the post office.

      • I need more than 2 hands ..

      • don't you know they would be worth more if they are still sealed in original packaging and not tampered with…

    • +1

Pretty soon we won't see dollar prices on bargains. The new currency will be eneloops on here.

  • +1

There should be some sort of OzB eneloop pledge.

"I pledge allegiance to the Deals of the Sanyo Eneloop of OzBargain, and to the AAA and AA for which it stands, one Battery under God, indivisible, with chargers fast and slow, carry packs, cases C and D, and free shipping on Wednesdays* from DSE for all."

    • now do we play the waiting game, will there be a free shipping deal tomorrow…
    • Offer ends today

      • Yes, today only. DSE do often extend and include free shipping, but it's never guaranteed. My prediction is that they wont this time.

    • +1

•now do we play the waiting game, will there be a free shipping deal tomorrow…

      Wouldn't help….. Offers end 13/5/14

Edit: About 45 minutes too late. Possibly because I got distracted on other deals and didn't smash the F5 key!!! ;)

Look out for the monster sized box these come shipped in.

    • +1

I got my tropical 8 pack rattling around inside a huge box yesterday. Did seem odd.

    • No doubt there's a DSE manager who owns shares in the cardboard industry…

        or has share in AusPost

        • Or in Eneloop?
Btw aren't fast chargers shorten battery lives? Why would OP highly recommend it?

        • +1

OP would recommend it because the slow charger is really bad, it basically charges to a timer and a safety temp cut off. Quick charger detects when the batteries are full and stops charging them, much btter for them.

Skillet has a good summary of the fast charger here:

Reminds me of this article that was a fairly decent read from memory. Amazon etc are pretty guilty of this also.

        • Thanks for the article, that was a very interesting read & clarifies why items are shipped the way they are.

Just broke my Eneloop cherry and ordered my first two packets of batteries. I hope we'll be happy together.

  • +3

Thanks for this, I have been hanging out for a AAA sale.

    • Me too! I was only looking last night!

      MAOR BATTERIES!

    • I'm new to this so sorry… it seems the AAAs don't come with a charger: what should we buy to charge the AAAs?

      • A charger? :P

        • Haha :)
Yeah, I'm just wondering what the best deal is… buy the $15 "Standard" (plus 4 AA that I don't need), or one of these other better chargers I keep hearing about (but the Masters deal doesn't deliver anymore), or have I missed something somewhere?

    • Yep, I've bought in as well. Needed a few AAA batteries.

Pick-up is not showing here. Anyone else?

    • TUESDAY-ONLINE-ONLY-DEALS

      • description reads:

Also pickup the standard charger and 4x AAA 14.96

Did he just mean "get this as well" or actual click & collect?

        • +1

He means it is available as well, deal got messy because I originally discovered the AAA deal and then found the charger deal.

          I'll tidy it up.

    • pickup showing for me

      • +2

How are you getting pickup. Not showing on mine.

        • My mistake :/

  • I think my Eneloop fast charger will stay in its packet lol

After getting a La Crosse Technology BC-700 would never use anything else.

    • After getting a La Crosse Technology BC-700 would never use anything else.

Panasonic (formerly Sanyo-branded) are (finally) bundling a decent charger with their 4xAA battery kits (and new eneloop Power Packs). Though it costs more than this one. I posted a deal on this yesterday which you've probably seen. Not too slow, not too fast (from what I can tell so far). It will probably prolong the life of the cells somewhat closer to their lofty claims about charge cycles.

$14.99 USD for their half-decent (?) BQ-CC17 charger will probably be my "go to" recommendation for non-battery-nerds (my mum, etc). I don't own it yet but will be picking one up, along with their 2100-cycle new eneloops.

The La Crosse chargers are of course great and offer some nice features for battery nerds, but I think Panasonic's new advanced charger might be the charger for "everyone else". We'll see.

      • Do you have a link where I can buy the $14.99 BQ-CC17 charger please??

        • +1

Do you have a link where I can buy the $14.99 BQ-CC17 charger please??

          http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-BQ-CC17SBA-Advanced-Individu…
          + $7.98 USD delivery.

You can also get it bundled with 4xAA 2100-cycle new generation eneloops for around $11 USD more. http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-K-KJ17MCA4BA-Individual-Rech… which is probably worthwhile.
          + $7.98 USD delivery

Makes more sense if you are an amazon shopper already (add them to your order for less delivery), but I haven't seen these for cheaper (delivered) anywhere else. Aussie dollar is fairly strong but not quite 1:1 with USD, so add a few cents to the cost in AUD. You will need a $1 US-to-AU travel adaptor from ebay to run this charger here (if you don't already have one). I prefer the 3-pin models for plug stability. The charger itself handles worldwide voltages.

Nitecore last night released its new 2014 charger the Digicharger D4 & D2. They look like they may rival the La Crosse BC-700. Especially a bonus if you need to charge 18650's also.

      Sorry…

      • +1

i sold the charger with the 4 batteries for $30 on ebay and kept the 2 x 8packs which they also substituted the rouge for tropical packs as well..

that made the deal even sweeter

        • Great Idea :D

  • Thanx op :-)

  • why i still have to pay $4.95 delivery when i ordered over $99

    • Not sure. Do you fall within any of these categories? http://www.dicksmith.com.au/shopping-with-us/delivery-inform…

Tested and it gives me a $0 delivery for 6 lots of the double packs.

      • ChickenTalon, thanks. I ordered 5 (or 10 packs) AAA batteries with my co-workers, the invoice is showing $4.95 delivery charge, maybe I was wrong but I thought it'd be free delivery, called Dick Smith, the support center not well trained, have to wait until the order delivered.

I love Eneloops and I have several Glitter and Rouge AA Packs but I think for AAA HobbyKing's Turnigy represent better value.

    • u get 15 x AAA for $25 (postage incl) from nsw warehouse

  • These must be getting pushed out the door before the new gen 2100 cycles start filtering through Australian shops!!!

I need a good deal for AA batteries!
    OR
If someone is kind enough to sell me AA eneloop batteries for the cost price?
    2 x 8 battery pack would be nice…That's all i ask…is it too much?

    • Yes of course….would you like it gift wrapped or original packaging?

Gift Wrapping is $1 extra or is that too much to ask?

      • I was being serious. I have read so many times users posting that they still have the batteries in original packing and can't stop themselves for ordering a new pack every time a good deal comes in.

If anyone has the batteries in the original packing and need to get rid off, please contact me.

        No need for Gift wrapping.

    • I need a good deal for AA batteries!

You could try amazon.com (especially if already shopping there). I tend to avoid the third-party sellers that often don't ship here though.

  • Need some AA Deals! Come on DSE

  • +1

Better off with the Seagate 1TB drive instead of the 750GB, still have to pay postage on the 750GB while the 1TB is free. Officeworks has it for $110 with postage, DSE $99 delivered

  • People charge for STDs?

  • I just got my packing slip for the 2x4 AAA and it says it includes a charger. Actually I'm buying 2 kits (4 packs) total and getting 2 chargers?

    Anyone else notice that?

    • Mine did not say including the charger, just the batteries.

      • Here is a screenshot of the packing slip:
        https://imgur.com/mvRJ3Cm

        • The same thing happened to me however I only ordered 1x 8 AAA Batteries.
I just got the tracking number with this in the email though, no mention of the charger.

        • Yep, me too. I ordered 2 X 4 AAA's, and my packing list includes one charger.

        • Oh yeah… I took another at my packing slip…. it does show charger included.. Now I have too many chargers.

        • Mine too, it says it includes a charger!

        • Where can I find the packing list on the website..I tried looking into my online account..thanks for the help !

        • +1

They emailed it out to me. Not sure it's available online.

    • mine says charger as well… Hmmm lets see if it turns up

    • DSE seem to add the charger on the packing slip regardless (they did on the last batch of batteries they shipped).
However, if you didn't pay for a charger don't get too excited and expect one in the mail.

      • +2

You must be right Wolfy. It was on my packing list, but AAA Package received today! NO CHARGER :((

  • How does Eneloop compare to the Energizer ones? Thanks

    • much better

So I've been wanting to ask, do people use eneloop's in remote controls?

I'm in two minds about it, as for all the remotes I have, I'd need like 16 eneloops, and with most remote battery's lasting anywhere from 1-2 years, I'm struggling to be able to justify it over disposables. For devices that go through batterys like there's no tomorrow, it's a no brainier.

Even though they're low discharge and would be perfectly suited for remotes, I just can't see the value in it from a money point of view. Am I the only one?

    • +1

      use for everything

    • +2

      well that was interesting.

      http://www.thesimpledollar.com/breaking-even-on-rechargeable…

Remote controls, seems like it's better to go for cheaper disposable batteries. This sample calculation doesn't take into account the IRR cost of initial your capital outlay, which would make it even worse to use eneloops.

I only use my eneloops for high use things, lighting and camera flash etc

      • Good article, and along my line of thinking. I put some of my new eneloops into my wirless mouse the other week, then realised the ones I already had in there had lasted about 3 years.

For lights, controllers etc that are used often and go through batteries like crazy it's an easy decision, but as long as you recycle the old disposable ones (to at least get something back environmentally) I think they're fine in very low draw devices, at least financially.

        • Yeah, I had the same thoughts, just haddn't bothered to actually calculate it.

I've got quite a few disposable batteries that I've picked up whenever they were on special at Bunnings, these have been going into remotes and wireless mice.

        • +1

Wow… My wireless mouse batteries see about 6 months top! Keyboard about 12 months! Eneloops in there now!

        • Haha since getting my iPad and putting a decent video card in my HTPC, I don't really use my desktop that much :-P

The low battery warning on my keyboard kept going on and off for about a year while using it!

        • My wireless mouse (non bluetooth) takes 2xAA and it lasted about 5 years on lithium batteries, i wasn't always an OzB member :)

      • you need to channel surf more

        • -1

I barely touch my remotes now except for setup functions, I have a Logitech Harmony Ultimate (purchased by my awesome GF, without even me hinting that i wanted it, heck I didn't even know I did want it until I got it!).

Great system, but the remote barely lasts a week outside of its cradle.

        • +1

Bought an 1100i on super special from DSE a while back. Only kept it for a few days as I found it annoying to have to look down at it everytime I wanted to push a button. Exchanged it for the Harmony One instead.

      • That article (Breaking Even on Rechargeable Batteries) is nonsense. The author claims "it takes about 450 watts to recharge an eneloop battery, which adds up to about $0.06 per recharge."

By my calculations, fully charging an AA eneloop will require around 3 watt-hours of power. Even at current power rates this will only cost a tiny fraction of a cent.

        • Agreed, didn't like the calcs on his energy usage costs. Even ignoring charging costs I think you can't beat using disposable in your low drain remote controls.

          • You need about $2.50 worth of eneloop (~just under $20 for 8 pack, on special purchase cost plus a few back up batteries to be ready when your eneloops need charging) per AA.

          V's

Eneloop upfront costs is roughly 8x your disposable option. Lets say each disposable battery lasts 2 years then it's 16 years breakeven using the eneloop. A modest IRR of 3% applied to your initial outlay for the eneloops would blow this out even further.

Gets even harder for the eneloops if you get your AAs on special https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/139368. 23c per battery.

Happy to have my calcs ripped apart. maybe this is a forum post.
