AirAsia X: Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur return from $260 inc tax!

210

The "Big Sale" has taken off, with Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur selling for $260 return including tax. Search for the $130 each way fares, I can verify that fares are available in September, but there are probably oodles more to be found in the travel period, 1 Aug – 30 Nov, 2009.

Crazy cheap fares are also available for Perth and the Gold Coast, as well as numerous destinations across Asia. You may be able to get a bargain fare to the UK, too.

Sale is on now until sold out, visit AirAsia's sale page for further details and to book: http://www.airasia.com/site/au/en/promotion.jsp?reference=rr…

Forgive me, this is a repeat from my discount travel blog, http://flighthacker.com/

  • What a deal! My dad just booked August for $450 return last week, and now its only $340 return (with all the baggage, and foods). Ohh wells!

  • Nice deal. Managed to get Melbourne to London via KL for a bit over $600 return inc food and baggage during their other sale not too long ago.

Now just hoping that this airline is still going to exist in February!

  • If you want cheaper price. Buy one way from Melbourne/OOL/PER - KL and then buy one way from KL- Australia.

    It works out : AUD 130 + RM 220 (~AUD 82) = $212.

    • yep, true. we should probably try to add this disclaimer in all air asia deals as the "local" airline's malaysian ringgit price tends to be cheaper than booking in the "foreign" currency, such as AUD/USD/GBP

  • v.good deal, going there next week, but i paid top dollar… 199 each way! hope they are still in business by then, sounds like they are desperate.

don't forget the extras, baggage & meals & seat location!

    • They'll still be in business for a long time. These prices reflect the current fear people have about traveling because of the flu. Try buying a ticket around Christmas…they go up to AUD$1500 or more return.

  • I couldn't find any $130 tickets.

Best is $212 Melb to KL

    • Remember that adioso is not real-time. See their Price Feed for updates.

    • Try Airasiaplus.com for more broader searches. Or wait until Adioso updates, usually within 24hours.

    • +1

Adioso is up to date with the flights, but the prices are inaccurate as AirAsia has changed their fee structure.

We're updating this now, but in the meantime, the $212 flights you see are actually $130.

      Apologies for the confusion.

      Cheers,
      Tom

  • They'll be around as a company for a long time yet. They are huge and doing well. $199 is still good. I got $65 Bali-Perth inc meals and bags, but when Jestar charges $450+ we can see that Air Asia is a real budget airline. When the economy starts to get back to normal in a year or so these offers will become less frequent.

  • Is there anything to see in Kuala Lumpur? I'm going to Japan in February, is it worth going to KL as well??

    • +1

KL has its attractions and it's worth spending a couple of days there if you're travelling around Malaysia but I'm not sure you'd bother going out of your way as part of a Japan trip. They're not particularly close.

The main attraction for OzBargain/Adioso types is that it's quick cheap hop to Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc, and connects you to the bargain London flights.

  • Maybe a damn question, but can anyone explain how to book ex:OZ(Mel or OOL) to London?
When you choose Mel, only KL is the destination you can choose.

Do you need to book two flights separetely?

That means, you cannot transfer flights at KL airport (i.e. go through immigration and pick up baggage and check in for the flight to London)?

    • +1

Yep, you need to book separately, immigrate, re-check-in and emigrate. No connections.

They're a true budget airline; this is one of ways they cut costs.

  • +1

No need to emigrate or immigrate. Just pass through immigration control then check in at the Air Asia X counters :)

Cheap food/coffee/soft drinks at the food court past the KL Sentral shuttke buses.

You can book the second leg of each trip the day after the first one to minimise the risk of missing the second leg if the first one is delayed. There's also a brand new budget hotel called 'tune.' Book well ahead on the net to get the cheapest prices. Better beds than first class. You'll get to where you're going nice and refreshed :)
