ALDI Lifetab S7852 $199 7.85" Screen, Quad Core: Starts This Saturday

80

On sale this Saturday the 26th April. I have no idea if the tablet is decent or not. Just cheap. Cheap is nasty and nasty is good. 2 year warranty plus the Aldi "change of mind, I can't be a%$ed" return policy.

  • Res seem fairly piss poor to me. Major failing it would seem. The rest of the specs sound ok

  • +2

Same res as my wife's iPad mini and the same size too. It's not the same as the new retina iPad mini, but I don't see any problems with her iPad mini.

  • "HD multi-touch display with IPS technology"

    I don't recall 1024x768 ever being classed as HD…

    • That's HD… What you mean is "FULL HD" =]

      • +3

I always knew 1280x720(720P) to be HD, and 1920x1080(1080P) to be Full-HD.

        • You are right.

High-definition video is video of higher resolution than is standard-definition. While there is no specific meaning for high-definition, generally any video image with more than 480 horizontal lines (North America) or 576 lines (Europe) is considered high-definition

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_video

With that in mind a device could be 1x720 and be considered high definition. It seems to only be the vertical pixel count that matters.

200 bucks is no longer "cheap" in the tablet world. There are an increasing number of options in this price range, from the 2012 Nexus 7 to those cheapo Pendo pads that Coles sells.

    • Nexus is not suitable for every user.

Do the Pendo Pads handle games well or at all? For that matter, does this Medion?

  • +3

Do these Medion tablets receive Android updates at all?

    • Do Samsung? Asus? Acer? Unless you get a Nexus device updates are wishful thinking. Some brands do it better than others, most don't do it at all except on their premium range of products.

    I want 7.9" ones.
This one is 0.05" short, no deal!!

  • this is an amazing price for the specs it has, despite the brand and the place of purchase i reckon it's worth the money. for $200 for almost 8" quadcore and a 10HR batter life with a 2year warranty! im SOLD.

    • Weren't Note 3's going for just a little more? Care to make any comparisons you are referring to justify this 2nd tier brand as a good deal?

      • +1

I think you mean Galaxy Tab 3 8.0? If so they are only dual core and barely any better than this Medion (in terms of specs), and not worth the extra imho. This Medion is not bad specs for the money considering it's local stock. The res of the screen is a little low, but it is only an ~8" IPS screen (and still probably better than the Samsung's TFT).

A side by side comparison between the two would show the Medion as the better spec-ed product on paper and $70-$100 less.

Personally I would like to know what the "Infrared function" is capable of. All that in mind I agree with theone4u.

      • if you want to compare it, check this out http://www.binglee.com.au/acer-nt-l3wsa-001-iconia-a1-830-ta…
a name brand, 1.6ghz dual core same resolution, 1year warranty extra $29 unless you purchase it before 30/04/14 for the $29 cash back.

Aldi's Lifetab is still winning on the table.

    • Go-ahead and 'tick' the associate box!

  • Does it work with hml cable?

    • No, I don't believe it has either HDMI, MHL or any other video output connections.

  • wonder can you buy and try for 60 days? or less and return if you are not happy isn't that the way Aldi works?

    It's a Lenovo rebadge
