PC case gear has them for preorder for $749 if you want something from Australia.

Great didn't see that. Haven't ordered yet but very close!

  • A billion colours. So 8bit(edit:10bit) panel? Would be an absolute bargain if it is and has decent colour accuracy.

  • +1

can run at 60hz at 4K resolution good for gaming and movies.

Only through DisplayPort, HDMI is limited to 30Hz.

    • +1

most graphic cards that can handle 4k will have DP

      • Well of course, but people might think they can just hook up a HDMI cable and it will run at 60Hz. Considering even that Dell one that is linked a few comments down can still only run at 30Hz even over DisplayPort, I thought it was worth mentioning.

        Is that ok by you?

  • crap deal…. works out to be AUD 840 :(

    $749 at pccg -> http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&p…
    and mwave -> http://www.mwave.com.au/product/samsung-u28d590d-4k-28-3840-…
    and CA…..

    you get the idea

EDIT: revoking the neg as I guess this is good for those who must have it one month earlier than AU stock

    • Yeah I just came to mention PCCG as well. Cheaper and local. I'm not sure what their shipping is but total would still be less than $840.

Reckon these will be sub 500 in a few months.

    • Reckon 4k TV will become cheaper than this soon. Kogan $999 55" 4k 3D led TV is already here.

review here for those who are itching to pull the trigger…

for those who are wondering its a TN panel.

  • +1

    Main points:
    + Very high resolution (obviously)
    + 60Hz
    + Good horizontal viewing angles
    + Good response times
+ Good colour accuracy (not quite pro level, but still good)
+ Semi matte coating (well it's a plus in my books)
    - Expensive for a TN panel
    - Vertical viewing angles suck
    - Can display some non-uniform colours
    - No VESA compatibility
    - Stand can be less than solid

    • geez how hard is it to be vesa compatible at that size?

      • +1

More to do with thickness than its diagonal size, but yeah, I don't think many people would lose sleep over a few extra millimeters at the back.

      • +1

Who needs VESA when you've got double-sided tape?

        • +8

Who needs VESA when you've got MEESTACARD?

      • i ahve a 30" monitor

these things are huge and heavy thats probably the issue

  • Wow that monitor looks amazing. How did I not know about this?

Pretty good price IMO. I remember paying 900ish for the u2711 back in 2010.

    • This is Dell's more or less equivalent 4K unit…

      http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&c…

at the moment it sets you back at $899 but they might have 30% off sooner or later when they see how much Samsung are flocking theirs for.

      • It is not at all, to different.
        From Dell site

        Optimal resolution:
        3840 x 21606 at 30 Hz

        • thats what I said 'more or less' they are still 4k but using a MST method which i dont know probably not going to sell well because they can only run at 30 mhz…

    • I paid $1250 for my U2405 back in 2004.

        lol

i paid $250 for my cheap benq in 2005

A showcase of this product from prophet Linus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5YXWqhL9ik

  • Honestly i'm more interested in the upcoming IPS ultrawide's like this one LG 34UM65 or the competing Dell U3415W (no official link yet and details are sketchy but apparently uses the same panel)

    • Very interested in the Dell U3415W.

      • I know this is going against the grain here but i don't like the semi-industrial look of dell monitors and prefer the sleekness of the LG (in their currently displayed form factors)

        • I actually intended to link the LG 34UM95 which is 3440 X 1440 vs 2560 X 1080 in the 34UM65

        • You've just gotten my attention. Those look beautiful.

        • +1

i was about to shit on your post because it was 1080p only

          nice save

the dell looks awesome if it really comes in at $500USD

But imo, the 4k monitors will have a higher res, better aspect ratio and be value for money since 4k panels will be mass manufactured vs 21:9 panels

        • In 4K, I'm only interested in sizes of 35-39" so this 28" sammy does nothing for me, but that LG 34UM95 sure looks good, I'd be all over that if it was <$750 :)

EDIT: I don't think it'll be long before they're well under the $1000 mark, since the 29" ultra wide screens can be had for near $500 now.

    • These are actually for pre order at mwave

      http://www.mwave.com.au/product/lg-34um95-ips-34-3440-x-1440…

      Reasonable price

  • +1

Should factor in the cost of the GPU setup required to game on these things :P

    • a Nvidia Geforce 780, or AMD equivalent, or 2 lower end cards running in SLI/Crossfire

      • +1

I think you'd want to be running a couple of 780s for this to be a worthwhile purchase for a gaming rig.

    • i have a 2560x1600 monitor

My gtx 780 struggles to maintain 60fps on ultra
It manages but theres alot of drop frame rates

      just put that into perspective

    US cord and 110v

  • TN? meh…

    • We're still at Gen1 4K monitors

Things like TN or 30hz and other shortcomings are still commonplace. Early adopters accept that, otherwise wait a few months, I think I've read the next wave won't be long.

For my eyes, 28" @ 4K is too small, I liked the 39" Seiki idea but not the 30hz limitation. Seiki's 2nd gen are imminent but they've dropped the 39" size, focusing on the larger market.
