Found some on Warcom, bizarrely all of them in Russian!
      http://www.warcom.com.au/products/52952_edifier-c6xd-51-opti…

Reading through them with the aid of Google translate, sound quality is pretty good, but only a single optical input, and the optical input cannot decode 5.1 streams, only does stereo over optical (although one review thought the stereo was then turned back into fake 5.1 channel sound).

Wish I could find some better reviews, I wanted a Logitech Z5500 and waited too long, now unavailable. Is this a contender to replace the Z5500?

Neither Amazon.com nor Amazon.co.uk have any reviews, but they do say "1 Nonstandard Battery batteries required". Presumably for the remote control.

In case anyone is wondering, yes Officeworks do sell this item, but they don't stock it, it is a "special order" item. So they will drop-ship it to you from the manufacturer, and they won't price-match.

      • I'm in the same boat here. I missed out on the Audio Engine A5 deal from PCCG and then the Z906 deal at MSY.

People who bought the 2.1 version of this, lend us your opinions?

This model is much lower spec than a Logitech Z5500. Edifier's flasgship product intended to go head to head with the Z5500 is (strangely enough) their S550. Reviews fairly favourably compared with the Z5500. Cheapest on Staticice here at $369+freight:

  • I know nothing about this product, but $146 is pretty ridiculously cheap for a 5.1 system. I wonder how it sounds?

    • Well the Logitech Z506s are regularly selling for under $100 dollars. Tons of generic 5.1 home theatre sets are also under $200.

The reason I have high hopes for Edifier is because whenever I have found reviews for their obscure products, they've been very positive, like the Predator 2.1 system or the X330s.

Here is a review, you have to use google translate but is quite extensive.http://www.hardbloxx.de/2013/05/20/test-testbericht-edifier-c6xd/ There is also this YouTube clip where a guy tests the speakers near the end of the vid. Sounds ok when he turns up the volume. Yes I know its not a live review but its the best RL review I could find. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEJq9mv9FxY

I had the 2.1 version (C2XD), the inputs (optical and RCA) are nice to have as well as a remote but there was absolutely no mid range at all, so I took it back to HN for a refund.

I ending up going for a 2.0 system, Microlab Solo6C with 2 RCA inputs and it also has a remote and I couldn't be happier with the sound and clarity. I'm already considering the Microlab Solo7C speakers even though the 6C are more than good enough for the job.

  • Don't know much about audiosetups. Is this intended as a home theatre kit, or more PC? Do you run it on a receiver?
