Long time reader, first time poster
Probably the lowest i've seen, been keeping an eye out on this phone and it is upgradable to windows phone 8.1 as well when it gets the nokia cyan update.
or if you have unlocked the phone as a developer, 8.1 preview arrives in two days :D
8.1 has nothing to do with drop in value, this morning I got the 8.1 on my #N1020 and I love it. Nice phone with great camera is now even better. Cortana rocks - after Siri and Google this is the first virtual assistant that I liked and is useful.
Not the lowest, mobileciti had them for $509 with free shipping few weeks back and its Aus stock
Or even better;
A very small number of Dick Smith stores were selling them last year for $469 instore price (so no shipping)…
I got one, and because it was Aus stock, I then got TRS tax back, bringing the price down to $420 :-)
that was 569
If you are saying I paid $569 ? - No I didn't - Maybe I got lucky ?!?
I also got a $20 Microsoft voucher (which reminds me I should hurry up and spend it)…
That said, $469 is an excellent price for an excellent phone today :-)
amazing camera
Absolute Brilliant Fast Phone with Excellent Camera that has the largest camera sensor in all mobiles on the market - 41MP sensor that takes 38mp (4:3) and 34MP (16:9)
Had mine since the day they came out, and still not broken or shattered screen… unlike some other inferior brands!
The only negative about this deal is that it is a grey import and only 12months warranty and it has to come all the way from Kogan…otherwise i can't recommend enough!
If you sign up for the developers preview you get Windows 8.1 on this device and any other lumia device in two days time!
And if the Samsung Galaxy 5 price is any par to work by, the Lumia 930 will be released in Oz shortly into the new Financial Year for upwards of $750
the phone may be fast, but the camera is not! also, the Nokia 808 PureView has a larger sensor (1/1.2" vs 1/1.5")… ;)
(I have both…the 808 camera is superior, but the 1020 is a much better phone/UX.)
Still the biggest sensor in mainstream mobile, symbian is dead dude.
Aha ok…"mainstream mobile."
And the camera on the 808 still wipes the floor over the 1020…(no bias, i use the 1020 as my main phone, and love it).
Easy to have a big sensor when it's a brick, might as well just buy a full blown camera and a good phone
Plus the camera software features that the 1020 has blow the 808 out of the water, I also doubt the 808 is as fast at taking pictures as the 1020 which is already slow
You are clearly bias toward the 808 as it's crap = As Damonator stated symbian has been abandoned and the 808 is an obsolete model that is not sold by the manufacturer, about as good as a dumb phone these days
1) the 808 is an absolute brick of a phone, absolutely! but a brick of a phone is still far more convenient to carry than a camera AND a phone. Stupid comment. (ps. I have a DSLR and a point & shoot already, thanks.)
2) Yes the camera interface on the 1020 is hands down better than the 808…i did mention the UX is far superior.
3) sorry, but the 808 is much faster taking photos than the 1020. Both from start up, and shot to shot (ESPECIALLY shot to shot, which is most important to me personally, and is pretty bad on the 1020 even with the nokia black update.)
4) if I'm so biased, why is the 1020 my main phone? Why has every single thing I've said (apart from the camera) been that the 1020 is far superior to the 808? I'd say if you read our respective comments objectively you would not think I'm the one that's biased…
5) Dumbphone? aha, Symbian is FAR more powerful than windows phone. It's true that it doesn't have the support and app ecosystem of other operating systems. AND the UX absolutely sucks in comparison. AND it's also buggy to buggery. But it's certainly no dumbphone. Hate on Symbian all you want (i actually hate it now too, and would never go back!!!)…but it is unquestionably more powerful and feature rich than windows phone. that is a fact.
you're entitled your opinion, but have you actually ever used an 808, or are you just regurgitating the engadget/gizmodo anti-Symbian line? everything i've stated is fact, or at least based on personal experience from using the two phones as my main phone.
fyi, don't take my word for it: on imaging alone, dxomark recently rated the new Xperia Z2 and 808 equal first…with the 1020 coming in 4th, behind the iphone 5s!
ps. I typed this on my 1020, which i heart to death, and would never go back to my 808 (as my main phone)…but I'm biased, right? ;)
I bought one from the Mobileciti deal. They were better to deal with than Kogan.
The 41mp photos are not as marvellous as I expected.
My landscapes are only dramatically sharp in the centre with the right third being decidedly fuzzy.
5mp and closer subjects are less so affected as if it may have a bit to do with software.
Do other users experience this? Am I expecting too much from an F2.2 plastic lens even with a Zeiss label? The lens seems to be a fixed F2.2 aperture.
Raw photos seem fairly ordinary and highlights are not easy to control.
The optical stabilization works well. The Windows Phone operating system is good.
Will these things improve with better Nokia/Microsoft firmware?
Check few of my pics on facebook just look for #N1020, I think its either just your phone or you :) not being used to the phone yet
great price. most these windows phone 8 models will come down in price in the next 2 months when wp8.1 comes out.
either way you will get the update around june.
great phone
